Description [hide]
HD Mod improves the visual quality of PC NFS Shift and removes several limitations which were a result of console memory restrictions.

The 4 components are:

i) Add Community Skins - removes all stock 1024x1024 resolution skins (excluding those used to mark Rivals in Career mode) and replaces them with high quality skins collected from community skinners. Cars without community skins receive a greater range of default paintschemes (typically double the original number) and most community skins are 2x or 4x the resolution of the stock Shift skins.

ii) Increase Simultaneous Car Models - increases the number of simultaneous car models allowed on the track at once. The default in Shift is 5 unique car models. If the game can match more cars (by their performance class range, upgrade levels, game difficulty level etc) to your car level, you will see a lot more unique car models on the track at a time.

iii) Install PCGH Shaders - installs a new set of graphics shaders from Beetleatwar1977's PCGH mod. These shaders operate on more on-screen objects at a higher precision level.

iv) Tune Tyre Smoke - installs RDK10's Tuned Tire Smokes mod. This will increase the number of smoke particles possible onscreen, changes the smoke texture, and makes several changes governing when tyre smoke will appear.

Each component can be installed individually.

HD Mod uses much more GPU power and memory than Shift (up to several hundred MB more). If you cannot run Shift acceptably fast as it is, HD Mod will not make it any better! A fast dual core CPU, an ATI HD4870/Nvidia GTX260 or faster graphics card with at least 512MB memory onboard, and 3GB system memory are recommended for best results, though it will still work with less than this.

HD Mod v1.0 Release

* 1. Introduction -

HD Mod improves the visual quality of PC NFS Shift and removes several limitations which were a result of console memory restrictions.

If the game can match more cars (by their performance class range, upgrade levels, game difficulty level etc) to your car level, you will see a lot more unique car models on the track at a time.

iv) Tune Tyre Smoke - installs RDK10's Tuned Tire Smokes mod. This will increase the number of smoke particles possible onscreen, changes the smoke texture, and makes several changes governing when tyre smoke will appear.

Each component can be installed individually.

Shift HD Mod looks best if you invite some other mods to the party -

http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/need-for-speed-shift-68/sunmod-1857/

If you are feeling especially clever you can also merge these last two mods, by applying the new textures and trackside advertising/object changes of BSV, then applying SunMod's weather/time of day files. If you wish to do this you should use the "no bloom" version of SunMod for better results. Remember, all need to be used as unpacked mods to work with HD Mod.

* 2. Installation -

HD Mod requires an unpacked Shift install. Please use the unpacker located here to unpack your game:

http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=24117

If you encounter problems unpacking please report them in this thread:

http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166542

This mod could potentially harm your Shift install. If you use JSGME like a sensible person this is incredibly unlikely! So use JSGME! :)

JSGME available here:

http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products-jsgme.html

Download JSGME to your Shift folder, then run it and allow it to create a "MODS" folder under your Shift folder. Then copy each folder from this mod package into "MODS" and apply them using JSGME. Your folder structure should look like this:

\(your shift folder)\MODS\Add Community Skins\
\(your shift folder)\MODS\Increase Simultaneous Car Models\
\(your shift folder)\MODS\Install PCGH Shaders\
\(your shift folder)\MODS\Tune Tyre Smoke\

Then apply each mod using the > button in JSGME. You should install Tune Tyre Smoke last if you wish to use it, PCGH and Tune Tyre Smoke modify some of the same files.

* 3. PCGH Installation notes -

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING PCGH MOD - PCGH MOD REQUIRES THAT YOU REMOVE THE CONTENTS OF \RENDER\SHADERS\CACHE\*.*

PCGH modifies shaders. All in-game materials are generated using your hardware render path's .fx shaders in \render\shaders\, and a compiled .fxo shader is generated in the \cache\ folder from this process. If you are using the old compiled shaders generated from the old .fx files from the stock game, PCGH won't actually do anything for you. It can take some time to create the new shaders (literally every object on screen uses at least one and usually quite a lot of shaders), however, this will only need to be done once. A google translation of BeetleatWar's readme has been provided in the PCGH mod folder.

Uninstalling PCGH requires both that you remove PCGH from your JSGME installed mods list, and re-delete \RENDER\SHADERS\CACHE\*.* in your Shift folder to allow Shift to regenerate shaders from the stock shader files. Everyone using the V0.2 version of HD Mod should re-delete \render\shaders\cache\*.* and allow the shaders to be regenerated again. No change from 0.3 > 1.0, no need to delete anything!

* 4. Update list -

*** Changelog 1.0

Added new skins by Ocram, Moatlspeed, Alexc12fr.

Changed several cars so that their "factory" colour scheme was something other than a pure white paint scheme.

Re-worked text credits to reflect original skin filenames and other readme changes.

*** Changelog 0.3:

Added new skins by Jempy and HarunaAmami.

Added new PCGH shader package for improved SSAO and fog effects.

Added visual skin credits for all car liveries included.

Removed all stock Shift liveries (excluding Rival skins).

Added additional colour schemes for cars with few or no paintschemes from other manufacturers (eg. all rx7/rx8/mx5 colour schemes are now available to all mazdas - minimum available liveries/colour schemes per car should now be 7, several cars now have 20+).

Corrected MC12 and DBR9 skin bugs.
