View Full Version : Who Will Dale Jr. Sign With In 2008?
Ok, now that he is going to become a free agent, who do you think will come offering to get him to drive for them and why? I don't think Hendrick will because of Jimmy and Jeff, so it has to be Richard Childress where his father drove and won and he has a better chance of winning a championship.

but they arnt allowed to use the #3,
after his father died, the made a rule or ban saying that no one can use the #3 in the main series
but he might still go to childress racing

yes, he will always carry the #8
even if he goes to...toyota:(........he'll still have a #8 on his car

DEI owns the number #8. After all that has occured, do you think Teresa is going to sell the #8 to Junior. From what I understand, the only person who would ever be allowed to drive with the #3 is Junior. I guarantee that he will be driving for Childress and that Budweiser will be the sponser. I still think that it will be the #3 that he will drive. :D Wouldn't that be something?

Don't pay much attention to NASCAR-it's so damn commercial (-sp?) these days that I'd rather watch paint dry. My motorsport of preferance is the World Rally Championship...

"Earnhardt's #3 car was immediately retired by team owner Richard Childress, who made a public pledge that the number would never again adorn the side of a black car sponsored by GM Goodwrench, the color scheme and sponsor Earnhardt had driven since 1988."
i got this from wikipedia
Richard Childress has said many times that if the #3 was ever on the track again, it would be a Earnhardt driving it. Nascar has not retired or banned the number 3 from competition. Richard Childress pays nascar every year for the rights to the number 3 and just doesn't use it, atleast not yet. From what I am hearing , Junior will drive for Childress but it will be in the #33 car, not 3.

Jayski's is not the most reliable source for info. Jr. has already stated that he will be taking a few weeks to mend friendships within the DEI camp before looking for a new ride. Childress has also stated that no talks have occured. No talks have occured atm, but there has been an offer open to Jr. for years that he would be welcome to drive for the Childress team. Jr. has the talent to drive for any of the teams out there, but in reality, there is only one logical choice atm. Hendricks already has their drivers locked into multi-year contracts. Kyle busch should be finalized sometime this upcoming week. JGR is not looking to add another car. He won't drive anything but a Chevrolet. That leaves out Yates, Ginassi, Penske, and Roush. If he were to try and run cup with his own team, JR Motorsports, a single car team doesn't have a shot to contend for a championship these days. If he were to run a second car, the problem of running JR Motorsports will just increase. He would have to find a decent driver, sponsership and crew for the second team ... Truex and Menard have already stated that they are commited to DEI. This brings us to Childress. Who else can and is able to put a championship contending team together? Jr. wants to be a champion. Cheers.

I didn't hear this from Jayski. I got it from satellite radio. A fox sports reporter from the Charlotte area who knows the Childress organization
and has talked to a unidentified person who was at a meeting between Junior and Childress. Childress offered Junior a ride in a #33 car next year. No terms or agreement was reached. The reporter was on the Morning drive on nascar radio this morning with the story. I don't remember the reporters name.

Looks like your info is correct. You must have Sirius. We got XM last year so I could listen to NASCAR. Peeved me when Sirius bought the rights this year. Hopefully I'll get it back with the merger. This morning it was being denied afaik, but that was reading it off the web. Either way, it will be great to see him racing for Childress. Cheers.
Shannon
Yes I agree it would be good to see him at Childress. I too had XM, I got it because of Nascar, but after about 3 months of listening to Claire B. I cancelled it and got Sirius and just listend to news talk until they got nascar.

Well it is now known he is driving for Hendrick's Motorsports! That makes him Jeff Gordon's new team mate. And Jimmie Johnson's and Casey Mears'. The Fan favorite of five years, is going to the dark side, and will probably alienate a lot of his fan base. From what I understand, he wanted to go to a "winning" team, and HMS has won 10 of 14 races this year. More than likely this was a smart career choice by Dale Jr., and will probably help get him his first cup championship. I was actually astounded by this news....but I do applaude the kid for trying to get out of his fathers shadow....not that he will ever be able to. He will always be compared to his father. It is a shame though, that the DEI empire his dad built, will not have Dale and Kelly at it. His brother Kerry, might still work for them...but he isnt very good. Martin Truex now appears to be DEI's number 1 driver (pun intended)
The formation of a Juggernaut started today....and history has been made.

Good luck to him if he doesn't live up to their expectations in 2008. If you think that the Jeff and Jimmy show are going to pull over for him, guess again.
Yeah, I was driving my truck this morning at 2am and heard on ESPN (Sirius Radio)that a newsconference was scheduled for 11am this morning to announce this. I am kinda stunned myself. I thought for sure he was going to RCR and the #33 car.

I think he will do better than he has been. No they won't pull over for him but they WILL work WITH him. Those teams are very good at sharing info, to help all of them, as it is a team effort. All under the banner of Hendrick's Motorsports. I am a HUGE JG #24 fan, and I like Jr. I think he grew up really fast, after his dad died, and he becomes more mature every day. The Henricks and Earnhardts have been closely connected for many, many, years. He will do quite well there, and Rick will give him equipment every bit as good as the " Jeff and Jimmie" show.
Hoboholic....It is rumoured that Kyle may end up at DEI....and that DEI may trade Hendricks for the number 5 and give them the number 8, as Dale would really like to keep that number, but it is still speculation.
N2LO.....I know your a fan of "the man" ...are you also a fan of "the son"? and if so how does this change (or not) your opinion of his "arch nemesis" Jeff Gordon? I know a LOT of JR. fans will not be happy with this move, as they show their love for Jeff (talledega beer cans comes to mind) every time he beat Jr. From an Earnhardt fan perspective, how does that feel.
Also, just so you know, I have Dale Sr. collectibles, and have always admired and respected him, even though I chose to root for the "underdogs" When he was winning everything on the circuit....LOL
Phil
Face it, JR. is not that good of a driver. Alot of other drivers out there that are better. I would have liked to have seen Jeff Burton go to Hendrick's instead.

I was really hoping he would sign with RCR and drive the #33 car. I am not one of those fans who would throw beer cans at anyone, But I am not a fan of Jeff Gordons either. I don't call him a cheater, or despise him. I have legitimate reasons for not rooting for him that I don't want to get into here. Nothing really major, but just my own opinions. I do root for Jr. but really no harder than I root for anyone who drives for RCR or DEI and I will continue to root for anyone who drive for any of these teams. Hell, I even rooted and still do to some extent for Robby Gordon and still really root for Mike Skinner and he is in a Toyota. I still root for anyon who ever drove for either team (Except Ricky Rudd) Just my 2 cents :D

Yeah he has only got the 5th highest winning percentage of any active driver. One win and he will pass Biffle for 4th highest I am sure their is about 50 others driver who wish they were as bad as JR. All you gotta do is look at the stats.

just wonderin' .....and to each his own. I respect others opinions, even if I don't agree with them. I welcome Jr. to the "team" and we will see the fallout, as "true" Jr. fans will be stedfast, and then there will be the others.
As to whether or not Jr. is not that good?....is that a comparison to his fathers performance? Lets face it, the competition today is like a hundred times better than when Sr. drove. More and more teams have a more equal footing with equipment and engineers, so it ain't as easy for one driver or another to dominate this sport anymore. In Jr's defense, he does have 17 cup wins, which ain't bad. Now we shall see if that changes. He is a good driver, and he brings clean racing to the table, and I am all for that!
stay tuned....same Bat channel, same Bat time....lol
Phil
So, he is a good driver on SS and that makes him an all around good driver? Does he handle Road courses well? I think not. He has never proven himself yet other than the son of Dale. Hell, even Davey Allison was better.

Bad analogy...Davey only had 19 cup wins in 9 years...never had a busch win ever. Jr. won 2 Busch championship's (one of 6 to win 2 back to back) and has 17 cup wins in 7 years. And since road courses only consist of 2 out of 36 races (less than 5%) I would venture to say it really doesn't matter. Yes he is an all around GOOD driver.

Jr. has won Texas, Phoenix, Bristol, Dover, Atlanta and thats just off the top of my head, and I don't believe any of these tracks are SS tracks. Like I said I am a fan of anyone who drives for DEI or RCR, But You gotta have some facts to make your point. It would be like saying Jeff Gordon only wins because of his equipment, general statements followed with no facts are meaningless. I take it your just no Jr fan wich is a fair arguement, but your dislike does not make him less of a driver.
