Anyone played GTR2 with the eDimensional 3D glasses? I had the v1.0 glasses for LCD screens and it worked pretty good for the games I was playing back then (4 years ago).
Now I have GTR2 on order from Amazon, and wonder if anyone thinks it enhances the simulator experience or perhaps detracts if it doesn't work well.
Cheers,

MMhhhh not tried the 3d Glasses technology yet!....but i do have the IR Tracker that clips to you hat or Ear!
It adds a whole new feel to playing Racing or Flight sims, I HIGHLY Recommend it!
Here's the Link: http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/
Check out the GTL Video, its no the best video but will give you an idea of its capabilty in the enhancement of the Sims we play.
cheers, analog.

I have Gainward Stereo 3D Glasses and I have tried those in GTR2 and GTL. Dude you don't know what you have missed. Interior feels like you're in side a real car, well almost. Before you use 3d glasses remember get newest graphic drivers.

I have used the eDimensional wireless shutter glasses on and off for testing in the last week and there are a few things to bear in mind.
(1) LCD screens are out the window as the shutter glasses use polarization to blank out an image on either eye. LCD screens use polarization themselves to change colour and as you can imagine this causes quite a mess.
(2) if you have an nvidia based card you need the exact matching stereo driver for whichever nvidia drivers you are using.
(3) you need 120 FPS (60 for each eye) as images for each eye is shown on alternate screen refreshes. Any lower and you could be in line for headaches.
(4) you will lose about 50% brightness in each pair of frames because of the polarization of the images to each eye.
(5) The eDimensional glasses are particularly sensitive to how wide you specify the distance between the eyes are. You will know if you have got it wrong as you will get a headache within the first 2 minutes of use.
All that said (and I agree with MadNitroBooster here) when its done right the sense of depth perception you get is unbelievable. Hope this has been of use to you.
wow - what a detailed answer!
Thanx for the information sidewinder!! i was seeking information on these all day. many ppl are going nuts on the drivers but Nvidia seems to be working on updates.
The question i still have is about LCD screens.... you say its bogus eventhough they are "supported"
is it the driver software that eats up your 120 frames to keep the '3d images' optimized for both eyes or is it the refresh frequency htz of your lcd panel that probable wont be above 60hz leaving 30 for each eye causing headaches.
(i read refresh rate of 100 was recommended)

The driver software eats up little time all it really does is add in a few extra calls to OpenGL or DirectX depending on the game you are playing. If you can manage 120 FPS without the glasses you should have no problems when using them.
I was not aware of LCD's being supported and I have not tested it myself for a while now. It really depends on the LCD in question because as far as I am aware there are quite a few different ways polarization can work in LCD monitors.
The glasses work by polarizing the light in such a way that 100% of the light gets blocked out for the eye that is to be blocked from seeing the image (i.e. two polarizing filters angled at 90 degrees to each other) so the glasses depend on getting unpolarized light for them to work correctly. Then again eDimensional may have come up with a solution to this problem I don't know.
As for the refresh rates question 100Hz is good but 120Hz is ideal because with 60Hz for each eye most people will not notice any flicker or jerkiness.

My LCD monitors Max Hz is 75 and it works great. I have even tried to play 26" flat Widescreen TV which has that HD ready thing. TV Min & Max Hz is 60 but picture is very sharp. And yep 3D glasses work with that TV too.
And one thing, if I remember right there is patch for those eDimenson 3D glasses that are older version, which don't work with LCD monitors. It should fix that problem.

I have the older pair compatible with CRT monitors, not the LCD. I haven't been able to use them for about 3 years due to changing over to LCD, and now using a HDTV 61" Samsung which uses DLP technology.
If there is a "patch" out there for my older pair, I'd love to get a link to that and blow the dust off that "old" pair of eDimensional glasses.
I can run at 1920x1080 60hz, so hopefully it wouldn't suffer too much flicker. I think the HDTV can run at a lower resolution at 75hz, so maybe that is worth a try if I can get the patch...
Will report back when I get the full game up and running... but, that's a different thread!! :p

61". allways use max Hz when you have 3d glasses connected to your computer. And if 3d class options has that monitor inch setup set it what your monitor size is.

I have last year's HL-S6188 model... sweet!!! 1920x1080 at 61 inches wide and 8 feet away is incredible for gaming...
I can hookup both VGA or HDMI cable.
Windows games are totally immersive. Add 5.1 Surround and a 12" 500 watt subwoofer and there you have it.
I use the Microsoft XBOX wireless wheel through the optional Windows Wireless Reciever for Windows. ($20 at Wal-Mart... allows one to use XBOX accessories with Windows). That way I only need one wheel for both setups.
