View Full Version : Are you supposed to believe 3DMark06?
I was shocked when i first saw where i was compared to others and btw the lowest score for similar systems was the first 3DMark test i did 30 minutes earlier:(. Is it just that all other 97 similar systems are overclocked and that my system is is crap:mad: compared to all other systems.
Is it possible that something is broken with my computer. Also can someone with a similar system to mine post their 3DMark score.

Think Vista might effect these numbers?

Seems like a normal score to me.
3300 is normal for a 7600GT in XP.
Vista has worse drivers, so 3100 is quite normal.
And those fast systems are overclocked I think, or 3dmark06 compares a 7600GT with an 7900GT for example. All 7-series together.
http://xtreview.com/review63.htm
One of the things those graphs don't show, and are almost misleading about, is the number of machines scoring those marks.
Sure, someone may have overclocked something with liquid nitrogen and run it long enough to score 24,000 - but maybe it's the only machine with a score above 20,000. I'd be interested to see a graph showing the distribution of scores.
I get my new machine tomorrow :bounce: so we'll see how it ranks (8800 GTX though)

Let me give you an idea... :D
8800GTX & E6420 @ 2.13Ghz: 9280
8800GTX & E6420 @ 2.80Ghz: 10921
...and to think, I could pull a 3.2Ghz on stock cooling if I knew how to overclock :p

Got a guesstimate for 8800 GTX & E6700 @ 3.0GHz? Ooooohhh I can't wait! Been without a PC for a fricking month!!!
Yes well i am so close to buying a 8800GTX(not the ultra one) because they have dropped their price a bit from the release of the ATI 2900XT. I hope it drops more with the release of the 2950XTX, 8900GTX and the 8950GTX.
Then maybe the 8800GTX/X2 5200+ combo will roar. . . .:D

I wouldn't hold my breath too much :)
I just upgraded from a 7600GT (650/1600MHz) to an 8800GTS XT (560/1700MHz). The difference in GT Legends FPS was... none, when using the same settings as with the 7600. The only thing is that now I can turn up all eye candy and still get the same FPS. But right now FPS is fully CPU-limited in both GTL and GTR2.

That score is about normal. My score was about that till I dropped a second 7600gt card in and overclocked just the graphic cards a bit. My score now around 6000
Yes but would you think that my Graphics card has bottlenecked my system because im sure my CPU is much better.
5600+ / Leadtek 8800GTS 320mb stock clocks
Asus M2N Sli deluxe / Geil 800 5.5.5
3DMARK2001 - 38,123
3DMARK2003 - 28,288
3DMARK2005 - 14,296
3DMARK2006 - 8,632
From what I heard from a mate 2900 is hot, loud, dont have any better AA/AF then a 8800, less compatiblity and 100 bucks ( AU.) dearer then a GTS320mb Leadtek to boot.
Dont know if thats a fair representation :D

Looks like your video is holding you back, I was running a similar setup, except wit 2GB of OCZ Gold scoring about the same, dropped in my 8800GTX and pushed it to somewhere around 10,000

Machine up and running happily, backups sorted etc, so thought I'd run it through its paces.

3DMark2003: 40,157

3DMark2006: 10,371
10,921 huh? I'm not interested in frying a very expensive graphics card but I would like to know just how it pulled 10,921?
Very nice. Now flip on the 8xQ Supersample AA and look at the pretties. :D And yes, HAMMER's mate's right on about the loud, hot, poor performing red card...buddy of mine's had it since release. And he's just about to return it.

...right on about the loud, hot, poor performing red card...
I've been a bit of an ATI fan boy and held off till the 2900's came out. Within hours of release it was clearly a disappointment and I went green instead.

Not sure. Just give it time to break-in though. My scores were slowly getting better. I overclocked the GTX to 600/1000 and got 11,2xx. I then returned the card to stock and ran the cpu at 3ghz and got 11,1xx. Both remain at the original posted configuration for temps and because the GTX overclock gave no FPS increase.
Keep in mind you need to return all settings in the control panel to default. I think that is how people run the benchmark? I could try it again by doing high performance mode though.
You keep forgeting that the new ati card currently out which is the X2900 is only the base card like the 8800GTS or the 8600's. We still are waiting for the X2950 range to come out which will blow away the 8800GTX and the ultra.

I don't think "blow away" is the proper phrase. It will hopefully do better though, because nVidia will out do themselves again in November. So, I hope AMD/ATI releases these cards soon!

You dont have dual channel ram ?
edit
1gb of generic ( single channel) will hold Vista back
I dont think Home Premium will be a waste with a GTX .......if you had a better mobo/ram combo
You have 19" LCD 1280 max.
mmmmmmmm
The 5200 will handle the GTX let down a bit by the bus speed
Main waste is a GTX's value is at 1600 > + resolution
imho ..............
Okay umm my store

Leadtek 320mb GTS - 418

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe (nF570 SLi/PCI-e/S3G/ GLan/1394/8Ch) - 176

2GB GEIL PC6400 800MHz Ultra 4-4-4-12 - 187.00
http://www.itestate.com.au/products_detail.asp?code=PD00004475
TOTAL - 781.00
The GTX is 799
GTS is perfect for 1280 with good mobo and 2GB good ram
Leadtek will clock 600/1900 in good ambient temps
PLuS you will get a bit of stable overclocking with that mobo ram combo if you want
It will def make a diff in everything else as well where as the GTX wont ;)
;)
i have 5600 and that mobo running XP/vista 32BiT spot on
Then :p
I would get
Generic 450 watt case 55
XP3200+ 45
80GB IDE 44
DVD 39
add ya Old Mobo, Ram, 7600GT, XP some games and flog it for say ......
450/500 fast cheap tower make some bucks back.
Yes i do have DDR2 RAM, and i have two 19 inch screens but still only use one at a time for games. Sometime in the future i will sell these and buy either a 22 inch widescreen or bigger but not until next year atleast.
Is there a BIG difference between 667Mhz and 800Mhz oh and 1066Mhz?
Ok i dont know about getting new RAM but i was also thinking of getting a new motherboard when i found out it can effect a computer's performance (FSB).

Will its just your mobo and 667 will let a 5200 and GTX down imo
I think with the M2NSli deluxe ( or another equally specced mobo) AND uLTRA800 ram a GTS would flog in 1280
I am not saying go and buy extreme corsair but between 667 and 800 running 4.4.4 and the faster chipset you will def notice a difference
I know mine does in 1280x960 ( I can do 1920x1440) and I have only
Geil 5.5.5
The better Ram and mobo like I said will power the CPU along in all apps and software much better
the GTX will do no more for software apps then a GTS will
The GTX will offer no better visual quality then a GTS will
Leadtek will clock to 600Mhz stock a 20% increase and run all day
You wont get that from a stock GTX with heating it up
I would say the mobo and ram would be 10% faster then your current setup
This would negate some of the GTX's extra speed as well
GTS320mb is 50% cheaper .... 25% slower and no worse looking
Yes i do have DDR2 RAM
Why doesnt it say so in the 3DMark result ?
are you sure the chips are in the right slots
run CPU ID http://www.cpuid.com/ check ram speed, timings and config
MS Windows Vista (Home Premium) and yes it sucks!
Sorry I cant agree, with 2GB of fast ram and M2N will run Vista Home near perfect
..........these days.
Also the M2N has 6 sata/ 10 USB/2 firewire/Dual LAN/8.1 sound ( which is damm alright with decent speakers prollie best onboard i ever heard) all sims GPL to RF no sound issues and is Vista compat where I dont think Audigy4 software works 100% in Vista does it ?
Spam :p
Just a thought ...........
I think West Aussie is dear for parts check my site you can ring they
might not answer first time, 2 lil asian chicks very nice girls

Thanks for that your rams runnin a lil slow
So you say a new motherboard will make a big difference and will help with a new GC.
Do you have to buy a CPU that can run with a MB's fsb speed or can any CPU run on it. For example can my CPU run at 1333Mhz on a MB or only 1066Mhz
and would i notice a difference.
Forget it Mike, get ya GTX
Will be fine
Whos the funny **** edited my image from [IMG] to [MG]

It might be 1920 but has same info in the same KB total as Mikes 5 .......... so there :p

I dont think a 430 chipset / intergrated mobo has any right being anywhere near a GTX dont mean to be rude, I would love a GTX dont get me wrong.
But I think "all round" my choice above is a better one.
Sorry about the blur  / resampled 1920x1440

Okay no directlinks
anyway probably better
no one jumped in as they think its a arguement
I suppose they all think Mike should get a GTX still
Well I dont
Did any of them even bother to look at the motherboard he is running, or that ram was at 650MHz.
NF430 intergrated with a 5200/ GTX get REAL people and mopst of you overclock i would say you should know better
To put a 5200/ GTX with mobo/ram combo is not a good idea imho .......
M2NSlideluxe ( or similar) /2Gb Geil ultra and a 320mbGTS for the same money as a GTX would be better all round.
Rest me Case Mike . :)
OK hammer i think you have great knowledge in all of this and get the message that you don't need much memory on the vid card for lower resolutions.
What i will do is get the new mobo and RAM now and wait just a bit longer with the vid card, mostly because of new ones coming out soon. Thank you so much for your help, i would have never thought i needed a new mobo/RAM and i might even purchase some of these things from itestate because of how much cheaper they are.
I was basing my advice that you were spending a maximum 800 aussie plus obviously a PowerSupply.
If anyone thinks Mikes current mobo and ram are worth adding a $800 video card please tell him why so he can get a different opinion.
Im happy with what you suggested, and i didn't say im going to get a $800 card because that is alot of money for just one part of a computer.

lol ;)
Im talking after you first suggested not getting one. I believe that your choice is best because it will enable me to get the most out of my comp with-out spending a truckload of cash.
