Im happy with the decision.Virginia had that problem and it would be impossible to run there. As for Doni, the advantage is that almost everyone knows the track so i thing it will be ok

note the track changed to donnington 2003, as virginia is a buggy piece of :censored:

I liked VIR ( except for its bugginess..)..Fane, Oppis ,Geordie and I had a few laps of fun on the practice server on Sunday..but the start of the race was just all over the place..soooo now its off to Donnington...I hope to race with you guys on Sat...

I was liking VIR and i spent 2 days practicing there.Watching Tommy driving is aways a pleasure and following him in the feed we can see what we are doing wrong or right.Brother MCDanger was doing fine there also. For Doni, well as i said before it will require less practicing because is a stock track and almost everybody drove there. As for the cars i will be in the yellow porsche, trying to finish the race without much worries. And please,go into practice server, dont practice ofline and then appear saturday for the race ok?:D

I'm gonna run myself some similar races offline to plan my pit strategy, especially as the Viper is a thirsty ol' bugger :p

I'm down to 36.8 on a comfortable race pace in the Porsche. Can easily maintain 37.2 for the first 10 laps or so.

Have not done a full race stint yet. I reckon the viper is faster, but i can't drive that car for 60 minutes without crashing ;)

Might have missed it somewhere, but is it going to be a rolling or standing start?

I can see all the vipers messing up setting off :P

Im happy with the porsche.I know that the viper is faster but sometimes we have to go the other way.We have only to take care of the tyres. So team Banana is ready to go:D:up:

Just did myself a 60 minute race offline.

Got about 37 laps out of the race, my viper can go around 14 laps before the tyres give up, running around 1:38's. 2 pit stops overall, and my engine survived.

Should be a fun race :p

31 May 07, 01:39
It's an interesting choice strategically..
This is how I would rate the cars:
Viper - Easily the fastest, uses the most fuel by a mile, probably hard on tyres
Porsche - Next fastest, uses less fuel than the Z3 but more than Lotus
Z3 - Slower than Porsche and uses more fuel
Lotus - Slower than Z3 but extremely frugal

The slower cars will make a lot of time on the Viper in the pits by taking less fuel and maybe 1 less set of tyres, so they aren't really 'inferior' choices. Maybe just the Z3 :)

the_wrexer
31 May 07, 07:19
Tough choice for me i had a blast with the Lotus and reckon it could suprise a few by having longer stints in the race maybe do a 1 stopper perhaps who knows. Only problem is its a bit gutless and its nearest rival would probably be the Z3. Favouring the Porsche at the moment but can't seem to go any faster than my P.B of 1.40 in qualifying trim. Race pace is more in the 1.41-2s. I'm just hoping i don't have any issues this week too but so far none to report:up:

Well when I left the server last night I put in a 1:36.0, just behind Fanes 1:35.9.

That was the first light fuel run I did. I tried another couple of laps and got another 0.3 in the first sector but never managed to complete the lap cleanly.

I'm aiming for 1:35.5 in Qual and an average of 1:36.5 race pace. I love this track as you either nail the lap or look very silly making a mistake.

Not sure if my tires will make a 1 stop at that pace, so I might be 2 stopping in the Porsche which would make it very close with the vipers. I would not count out the Z3, it can maintain good pace in the race, its not like other cars which start ok, get very good and then drop off in pace badly before a stop.

Oh, and another thing, this will be my first race from Vista X64, and the post race video will be completely make on Vista X64 also. The only thing that don't work is logitech profiler so my wheel profile is a bit different now, so i hope i don't mess up the pitstops, i keep hitting "lol" instead of ignition right now :D

I have Vista X64 Ultimate, but haven't installed it yet!!. I know my worries about drivers and stuff is probably misguided now. Will install soon i'm sure. I got it with PC so not wasted money.

Never been all that fond of this GT3 cup car...mainly 'cause I'm a lousey drivah:cry:.best I could get was high 1:37's but can't keep that pace up..:( the Lotus was just too slow ...tried the Viper but used up tires quickly...haven't tried the Z3 ...I ran a 60min race with the Banana and could squeeze it on 1 stop ...I'm not too hard on tires but then again I'm not very fast either:rolleyes:
..so if you'll have me - - I'll run with the Team Banana Bunch

31 May 07, 13:43
Same here R34,the Z3 is the last of the choices for me to try, although im fairly set on the Viper with a great Sludgey setup,i got a 134.9 lastnight with it,and every lap i done apart from 2 were 135's,i find i can run at a very consistent 135 race pace with the now slightly tweaked Sludgey set,ive never known this kind of consitency before,im usually the king of all over the place lap times, but this thing just stays the same to drive right to the end for me,its just the fuel guzzling issue that concerns me,it all depends how much pace drop off i suffer with the Z3,a quick one stop splash and dash with no tyre change could be a good gamble strat? .

lowndes888
31 May 07, 14:00
Well I don't plan on practicing a lot cause I know Donington well, just to decide what car. Either I'll go with the Viper or Z3, but the Z3 proved well with hard braking and avoiding accidents n stuff like that while the Viper is one mean b******.:D

jayblue
31 May 07, 14:59
I'm torn between the Viper and the Gt3. Obviously a Viper will start from pole and therefore have the immediate advantage, but i'm pretty sure (if my math is right...) that the viper needs 2 stops, and its hard on tyre's too. I like the Gt3, it a good balance of straight line pace and handling and is very manouverable, the Lotus and i don't get on well, and the Z3 i havent even tried yet.
Got the Viper in the 1:34's and the Gt3 in the 1:35's so there's not a great deal in it on out of the box pace either.

..sometimes it seems like I just can't find anymore speed. I see the times posted compared to mine and I wonder "what is wrong with me...was I dropped on my head by my mother???".
I have only been driving GTR2 for about 6mos..before that only playstation & console race games..but many of our m8s here have been doing this for a lot longer. There simply is no substitue for experience. Yes theres some speed to be found with proper / trick set up, but much of it is just plain driver skill. The guys from nogrip are a great bunch and will help you. Spend more
time on the practice server...use the monitor to ride with the fast guys ( and the consistent guys) , watch the lines they take, where they brake and when they get back on the power and listen to how they gear their cars. Its all about " seat time". For me it is most important to be smooth on the race course...to accelerate without wheelspin..to brake without lockup...to hit my lines (whatever they might be..:roflmao:) as consistently as I can...I beleive 2 things will come of this...first , consistency will help me feel what changes are beneficial and which are not to the set up my cars and secondly I will get faster as my skill level increases which is a direct result of the first.
Last night on the server, Fane and Tommy Nance helped me out ( yet again...thank you guys!!!)..did I go out and knock 3 seconds off my time---nope..but I learned to trust my insticts a bit more when it comes to my setups and their tips made my car just a bit more stable..and now it'll turn in better..:zen:.so I know that will mean a quicker lap time in the near future.
We have all seen you progress over the last few weeks..hell when you first raced with us you were, to put it mildly, all over the frikkin' place:eek:...now you are much more smooth..trust me the speed will come and the lap times will come down..so here's my list of thangs to do.
1.work on becoming as smooth as possible on the track
2.spend more time on the practice server
3.observe how the fast and consistent guys get around a circuit
4.remember slow in fast out is the way
5. every so often return to the driving school in GTR2 and practice
..and most importantly
6.ALWAYS, Always let me pass you when I come upon you...:p..ok maybe that one won't help you to be any faster..LOL
..hope to see you on the practice server...you'll learn a lot out there!!

One thing Jack didn't mention which i find very useful is

Watch your own hotlap replay, and pretend you are a sarcastic commentator. I often drive around a track lap after lap thinking i'm on the line and going great. Then I watch the replay from TV view and realise that I never got anywhere near the apex of 4 or 5 turns.

It also is good for setting up the car, often i feel the car is balance but I can see that its understeering in the replay and i'm just automatically driving around it.

Its like playing guitar, its hard to know what your doing when you spend all your effort trying to do it. But when you listen back to a recording of what you just played you tend to hear all the dud notes, and you wonder how you didn't notice that when you played it.

I think I'll go with the Viper and try and drive to save tyres
low 1-34s quali time, anywhere from mid 1-35s to mid 1-36s race pace (probably the slower time if trying to be kind to the rubber... )

I'm a bit slower in the Porsche and the tyre wear is still not good enough with my style of driving...
I drove the Z3 last week, time for a change!
In the Elise I'm roughly 3.5 seconds a lap slower, but might it save a lot on pitstop times? Hmmm.... possible dark horse.

Unfortunatley the Elise is no fun to drive, so the Viper gets the gig. :p

You can expect to see me spinning off somewhere around lap 9 due to no rubber left on the wheels

Wrex mate, I am 2 seconds off the quick guys and I think that. Sometimes I get really frustrated (and want to throw the bloody PC in the nearest tip) and can't for the life of me see where I can gain some time.

I have had good advice and help from some of the guys. Karlos followed me around for a couple of laps last night and gave me a couple of pointers. I have tried others setups, but that has not always helped. For instance Tommy's setup and Fane's around Virginia was a nightmare to drive. I went back to my own as I could do quicker laps with it.

The things that help me the most are riding onboard with the quick guys, looking at their motec and seeing the lines they take, (I have even recorded some of their laps) what gears they use, where they brake, then going out and practising, online.

But one of the biggest things I have learnt since playing this game, is not to 'rush' what I do. When you are driving your real car, maybe having a tear up with someone, or just putting it around some country lanes or something, you are in control, not flapping, just driving the car. That is how you have to drive online. Relax. When I first got this game I tended to 'rush', but now I try to drive in a more contolled way, same as I would my own car.

Yes, I still get frustrated because I am off the pace, but like 99.9% of the guys on here, I am a racer at heart. So are you, thats why you are here. I know I will probably never be as quick as the fast guys, I have been racing 3 months online, some of the others for years, also just because you are quick in your real car this is a PC game, you don't get the 'seat of your pants' feeling. So you need to try and adapt to that, I still find that hard to do.

Take things easy, get consistency first, then the times will come down. Do 10/20 laps at 1.40, controlled gear changes rather than snatching them, brake same place every lap, try to find the quickest line, and accelerate smoothly. Once you can get consistency and can go round without reallly thinking about it, then push it a bit, brake a little later, get on the power a bit earlier, try a slightly different line. I don't know if I have explained that very well.

Above all, apart from practise and more practise, from wherever you start on the grid, make it your priority not to go out and win it, push as hard as you can, but be consistent and keep everything together.

There's been some great advice in this thread, This is what makes this community so special.
I'm around your pace normally Wrex, and I agree whole heartily with everything thats been said.
The best thing I noticed lately is to hop on the server and ride with a slightly elevated, directly behind, third person view of the quick guys, as I find this easier to see their brake & turn in points.
The thing I'm working on at the moment is just what Steve has just said. Relax!
if I jump on the practise server and try to go hard-out straight away, (don't want to look slow in front of all these other guys!) I end up binning it, first corner maybe, second if I'm lucky!
Whereas when I'm offline with no pressure, I can go quicker. I'm trying to bring that cool, calm, mindset to the online track, and it's not that easy!

Another tip, which may seem daft but works for me: Look where you're going!
By that I mean FOCUS on your braking point coming up to a corner, then FOCUS on your clipping point, then FOCUS on your corner out point, then take a breath before doing it all again, lap after lap!
Your hands tell your brain to steer where you are looking at.
Of course I forget all this in the heat of battle, but hey, I'm still learning! lol!

Good luck everyone for the Race,
Looking forward to checking out the replay.

hallo can somebody help me.
I will drive with the Viper. I test it with 75l fuel and hard/hard tyres.
after 10 rounds my boxcrew says tyres out, but i think in the race you must drive 35/36 laps. So I go to box after 12 laps.(last 2 laps was a horror)
Now my question: can i do something with setup that the tyres are holding longer. (I can not make a god setup, i testet always but i can not do this)
Or can somebody give me your setup online.
I think with the Viper i have no chance in the race, but with the porsche i make lots of crashes especialy in the chicane. So it will not be a god race with this car for me and it will be more safe for the other guys if idont drive the porsche. (hope you understand all)
Please give me an answear, thanks.

None of the car's for this race seem to really suit me over a race distance, the Viper is thristy, the Gt3 heat's it rears and get's very difficult, the Lotus just bore's me a little... It's going to be a long race i think (hopefully longer than last week anyway!) ;)

The Viper may just stretch to one stop, going to be very tight on fuel tho, maybe some fuel saving driving will manage it.
