Reports: Kimi set for Ferrari exit

Kimi Raikkonen could be on his way out of Ferrari as soon as the end of this season, according to reports.

Germany's Auto-Bild-Motorsport said the beleaguered Maranello team are already on the lookout for the Finn's successor, after his poor start to the season and failure to live up to his billing as the highest earning F1 racer following his switch from McLaren for 2007.

Not only is the 27-year-old struggling to keep up with Felipe Massa in the other F2007, but there are also concerns about his supposed rookie errors and lack of focus.

Part of the Auto-Bild-Motorsport rumour is that newly retired Michael Schumacher will make his return to F1 in place of Raikkonen, but McLaren's unsettled Fernando Alonso or Williams' highly-rated Nico Rosberg are also rumoured to be in the running to replace the Finn.

Alonso won't go because he'll be second fiddle again.

i'm not surprised that he might be on his way out but its from a german report which i don't believe they would know!

Believable and also not believable :D

I love rumours like this - they trigger of the who, when, where stuff...........

Rosberg to Ferrari? Where will Kimi go? Toyota (that car will never have been drievn so hard :D)? What about young Piquet lurking in the wings at Renault - will he end up in a Williams seat - Piquet follows Rosbeg into Williams ;) hang on a minute.........will Bruno Senna start his career in a back-marker (Stryker?) and then move on to join Hamilton @ McLaren? Piquet, Rosberg, Senna - where's the young Mansell in all this? Who the hell is Hamilton?

To whom, Massa?? Todt admitted earlier that he thought about approaching Alonso before they decided on Raikkonen. Whether Alonso would have agreed is another story.

Autosport this week (go & buy it ;)) - have made a very credible case for a Rosberg/Raikkonen swap. It seems that Ferrari are VERY keen on getting hold of young Rosberg.......and why not, the kid is very, very good. Now my ramblings/supposition and guesswork.............I should imagine that Bernie could see the merit of Rosberg going toe to toe with Hamiltion - young guns and all that. The deal would involve Ferrari continuing to pay Kimi under contract while he drives for Williams.

Strange but possible..........

Quite how Raikkonen would help Williams I don't know, I guess there would be a good cash incentive - on the downside, car development??????? I mean, if a motivated Kimi isn't on the case at Ferrari - would you really want him (no matter how fast he is)? Although they do have Wurz to keep the car side moving on.

I dunno if Ferrai would want a Massa/Rosberg lineup since they prefer to have an established driver capable of leading them to a title. It would be a huge gamble IMO.

Massa can show signs of brilliance in one week, then drop off in the next. Maybe I'm being too harsh on him, I don't know. I just don't see him as a #1 driver with Ferrari.

Now if Ferrari really think Rosberg could be the next Hamilton then, by all means, they should go after him.

If there's ANY truth to the rumors about Alonso not being comfortable at McLaren then a switch to Ferrari would seem like a real possibility.

And it's hard to find Autosport over here. Plus by the time an issue arrives on this side of the pond, it's very old news.
