Has anybody tried that? How can it be a not official demo? ... sounds like RACE demo...

I've tried it and I like it alot, runs and looks better than Race 06. Can't wait til full release of RACE 07.

This is defo the Race 07 Demo.

I just pulled it down!

Its very pretty but will it hold up on the old driving realism.

It seems to be a beta demo made for the Swedish Virtual Grand Prix. If this is any indication of things to come in RACE 07 I'll put my bib on now, coz I'm already drooling.

Runs soooooo much better than 06, I can run everything maxed out, including shadows and it's smooth as silk and looks fantastic.
My PC would choke, puke, then nutkick me for even attempting to run such settings with 06.

The driving experience is much the same as 06, could be me, but the FFB feels even better.
If this is indeed only a "beta demo" than we are definately in for treat with this one!

BTW, for any that might be curious, this beta demo is on the gmotor2 engine, not Lizard.

Yes indeed that's a demo for RACEO7 http://www.nogripracing.com/gallery/data/2007/07/thumbs/571bd52710cec4696eef6d3ecddc07d1761e8eb8.jpg (http://www.nogripracing.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=10399)

Thanks for the link Kyril! That's funny because it says "not allowed outside Sweden"...
That looks great... the main improvement I found is in the sound! Great sound for the E90!

Do you thinks they will give us the possibility to drive an open wheel?

The full version will include an open wheel. I wouldn't be surprised if the official demo includes an open wheeler.

I was surprised that Simbin made the first edition of RACE a Shader Model 2 title only. But with RACE 07 out a year later I'd be surprised if they go back on this.

20 July 07, 21:52
Is it just me or do the cars feel more in contact with the tarmac, less floaty feeling than in RACE 06?
The more I drive this, the more I like it, fast becoming a favorite and it hasn't even been released yet, lol.
The AI are pretty good too, even had one flash his lights behind me when he thought I was holding him back, I've never seen that in any other sim.

They already do that in RACE 06. Maybe you just haven't held them up enough before. lol.:D

IMO, it compares very well to the GTR2 driving experience (altho with front wheel dive, it has a feel of it's own, excepting the BMW e90 of course) with the added bonus of VERY close racing with the touring cars, I love it :)
Seems also to have more of a sense of speed than RACE does, I'll think you'll be impressed.

The Antialiasing bug from RACE has been fixed in this 07 beta demo, you no longer have to use the ingame antialiasing, can force it thru your video card control panel with no loss of performance now.

Hm, in case you all haven't noticed, this has NOTHING to do with Race07.
This is a demo for a commercial mod of Race (1!) for the swedish market.

I mean, why should SimBin release a demo of their highly awaited, new game, and never say a word about it on the official homepage, and instead releasing it on some completely unknown swedish homepage... ;) This just can't be...

OK i can definitely, Honestly say it DOES NOT DESTROY ANYTHING!

i have purchased and played three games using the steam interface, they are still there after i raced the demo, so get it installed, it will download using steam once you run the exe, sit back and let it install, then run it from steam when its finished!

Easy!

Is this game going to be full of IGA? Was the sole reason i refused to buy RACE 06 i'm afraid. I know that won't sit well with most of you but the fact that Race 06 fell to £12 within 2 months shows exactly how much IGA are worth to game developers.

Obviously i'm more than happy to try out free demos though :)

Chef_uk;126375']Is this game going to be full of IGA? Was the sole reason i refused to buy RACE 06 i'm afraid.

Nothings been said officially. In practice the IGA in RACE wasn't a problem - if no one told you it had IGA you wouldn't know. RACE 07 will be sold in 2 forms - offline and on-line. IGA can't be used with an off-line only title and my guess is Simbin won't bother for the minority who race on-line.

I know that won't sit well with most of you but the fact that Race 06 fell to £12 within 2 months shows exactly how much IGA are worth to game developers

The price of RACE only fell so quickly with certain suppliers who I assume over-stocked and didn't want to be left with a load of stock post Christmas. Amazon for example made no reduction in price after 2 months, nor did Sendit. IGA is actually only worth 50p - £1 per game sold.

[PTG]Chef_uk
11 August 07, 23:14
IGA is actually only worth 50p - £1 per game sold.

If that were true then IGA would wouldn't exist. Im sure everyone who buys games wouldn't mind one bit if they were to cost £1 more ;)

David Wright
11 August 07, 23:26
Well, the people selling IGA claim its worth $1-$2 (50p - £1) to the developer/publisher

http://www.massiveincorporated.com/site_pubdev/pubdev_home.htm

If anything they are going to exaggerate its worth as they are trying to sell the idea.

What you don't perhaps realise is that a developer is lucky to see £10 from each game sold after everyone else has taken his cut.

Custom skins, custom championships and mixed class racing will all be part of the full release.
At first I was a big proponent of modability, almost a must have. But, as GTR2 is becoming mod infested...skins, tracks, cars, car upgrades, etc, etc, it becomes that much more a pain in the arse to join a server.
Now granted, I love all the mods, skins, tracks etc, in GTR2, but having a game such as RACE and RACE 07 that you know you can immediatly jump into ANY server w/o worry of mismatch this and mismatch that, IMO is a very good thing.
The custom skins in 07 tho will be a welcome addition, especially for league play.

I'm finding the same thing is happening with rFactor. Can't wait for Race 07, I can't get the demo to work though. I install the file from vgp.se but then after I've installed it I double click on the demo link and nothing happens. Nothing tries to download through Steam either:confused:

I just downloaded the demo version from Steam, but when I want to open it, the system doesn't work. I get a warning 'Video Device Error, Race 07 Will Close'. I have to click 'ok' and the program shuts down.

What can be the problem? Thanks for your help, I'd appreciate it.

Kyril
1 December 07, 12:10
Do you have a DX9 capable video card? Unlike GTR2 or GTL, RACE 07 wont't run on DX7 or DX8.

The Stig
1 December 07, 14:30
I downloaded DirectX 9 from this site (http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/directx.html). If it isn't a good version or just the wrong one, can you then send my a site with the right version?

I saved DirectX 9 in my C:\Program Files\directx and extracted it there (because it were zip-files, but maybe this wasn't necessary). I opened my steam and started Race 07, but my computer shut down (maybe because I had just installed DirectX 9). So when my computer was started up, I tried another time, but still the same message appeared (Video Device Error, Race 07 Will Close).

You are talking about a videocard capable of DirectX 9, but where can I find that info about my videocard (I do not know that much about videocard and stuff :p)?

David Wright
1 December 07, 15:49
He is talking about your video card.

If you have GTR2, look in your GTR2 folder for a file called sysinfo.txt. This will tell you what video card you have.

Like Kyril, I suspect your card is too old to run RACE 07.

The Stig
1 December 07, 16:24
This is what it came up with:
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904)
CPU Type: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz @ 2,60 GHz 2,6 GHz
Video Card: RADEON 9200 SERIES
Video RAM: 237 MB

I will compare with the needed setting, because maybe this could be the problem. Otherwise I'll ask a new videocard for Christmas. :D

David Wright
1 December 07, 17:08
Yes the video card doesn't support DX9 shaders.

Your PC is quite old so I wouldn't spend a lot on a new video card. I'd guess your PC will also require an AGP card rather than the more modern PCI-E. Something like an ATI X1650 pro or an nVidia 7600GS for about £50 should run RACE 07 OK and will run your other racing sims like GTR2 better as well.

The Stig
1 December 07, 18:27
Well thanks David. I don't think I'll buy a new computer soon, but that nVidia 7600GS looks perfect to me.

The Stig
2 December 07, 08:13
Is it possible to play the game if I put the resolution down from 1024x768 to 800x600? Or will the game still not run because of the videocard?

The Stig
2 December 07, 08:16
Okay, I just tried it out and it still wouldn't work. I'll just have to wait untill that new videocard arrives.
