I need some advice on how to make a masking layer for some mini windows for GTL. I have put objects on, and finally figured out how to make them solid, but now I want them to have a matte finish, unlike the surrounding glossy glass. I have edited the window references in the chassis GMT's with 3DSIMed to allocate a mask to a specific car number, but I don't know to make the mask layer. I've looked at a couple by other people, but I can't make head nor tail of it.

I created a mask for a new standalone i am working on, the Mini body mask I made from resizing a body DDS that I modified the brightness and contrast on after desaturating it, then I placed it in the Mini Cooper s/your car number folder.

From what I can see the windows in the XXX_TEX.gtl
have an alpha layer that effects the transparency.
The AUSTIN_MINI_TEX.gtl has a windows mask in it I think this effects the "gloss" of the windows, black = matte white = gloss ?

Yep, the bits you want to mask as matte need to be black. The bits I wanted matte on my BMC team were the stickers on the windows. PrinzTT did one car for me to copy, and Se7en told me how to extract the GMT files

You need to extract the GMT files which are specific to the chassis that you've used from the OBJ file. Then you need to assign a name to the mask layer and the car references in the GMT file, so the mask won't be applied to all the cars with the same chassis.

You need Geditor to get the GMT files, and I used 3DSimEd to change the references.
