I'm probably going to get a G25 soon, but am a bit worried about the lack of wheel buttons. However most reviews of the wheel and feedback on nogrip has been positive, so what have you guys associated the buttons with?

It's a lovely wheel hardjack, (only wheel ive ever owned) but to me the FFB feels great. pedals feel great too, only thing is with the full gate (H pattern shift) the gearstick feels like a toy.

Well I bought a G25 yesterday and I must say I thought it was the best money I've spent in a long time! It certainly made GTR2 more fun and the standard Force effects for the wheel are just perfect in the game. Other than financial reasons, dont hesitate to buy it. =)

Thanks guys.
I'd forgotten that you could turn on look left+right = look behind (and rather more embarrassingly that I won't be using the paddles to change gear anymore), so that is a big help. So 2 buttons on the wheel is actually 4/5.
It's really interesting to see how differently people map buttons though, and what they see as most important. On my current wheel (the old DF) I have mainly the look and toggle display options mapped, plus pit in, pause, replay, clutch, limiter. I guess that clutch button will be able to go soon as well :D

Lack of buttons hasn't been an issue for me in anything but F1 with CTDP (rFactor). Mine is fairly close to sege:
Wheel
Red Left: LCD Mode
Red Right: Pit limiter
Paddles - only used with CTDP F1
Gear Assembly
Black Top: brake balance forward
Black Left: LCD mode up
Black Right: LCD mode down
Black Bottom: brake balance rear
Got rid of POVs - have to do something with these.
Red 1: ignition
Red 2: starter
Red 3: (can't remember)
Red 4: Request Pit IN
Gear Stick: - only sequential - use ACT Labs for H-shift
Works fine - most GT cars actually have only 2 or so buttons and you've got to reach to the console anyway - (I said *most GT cars* so please no pics of those that happen to have a switch plate on the wheel - and we all know F1 and prototypes have fancier wheels).
Look forward to adding one of those shift lights/LCDs since my wheel placment hides it a bit on screen.
Wheel
Red Left: Reverse, handbrake or a predetermined gear, depending on the occasion
Red Right: Pit limiter
Paddle Left: Look left
Paddle Right: Look right
Gear Assembly
Black Top: Pit in request
Black Right: Position report request
Black Right: Damage report request
Black Bottom: Headlights
POV Up: Look down
POV Left: Roll view left
POV Right: Roll view right
POV Down: Look back
Red 1: Adjust break balance front
Red 2: Adjust break balance back
Red 3: Starter
Red 4: Ignition
Gear Stick: Always sequential, although I have a nasty habit or having it reversed, as in away from self for a bigger gear, towards self for a smaller one.
The thing I hate about the H-shifter is that you can shift into gears and out of gears without the clutch. Takes away all the excitement of actually shifting without the clutch like it's done in the real world, by matching the revs. So until someone mounts a force feedback unit into the shifter, just sequentials for me.
Anyway, I really don't feel you need more than two buttons on the wheel. Most procedures you need to do while driving aren't so urgent that you really need to get them done without removing one hand from the wheel.
