It seems add-ons work great for a while but after a while the tracks seem to get corrupted somehow. By corrupted I mean as I may be on the track the simulation is that I am on the dirt. The ground shakes and the sound effects are the same as if I were on the track. Is This because There are two many tracks I have downloaded? I have 100+ plus in my file. Some of my favorite tracks are now corrupted and I don't really want to reload the whole game. Please help. Thanks.

Not sure what the problem is, but it's not because of too many tracks. Do all the tracks act this way at once or one by one start actng this way?

One by one. Thanks for the reply. I wonder if there was a bug of some sort or a corrupt file that effects certaian track files.

yes, not the number of tracks
have you added any texture modifications?
my bet is that some track you added overwrote some file
have you tried different cars?
maybe it is something to do with the car you are using and not the track
(maybe a file related to cars was overwritten)
you say it's like dirt - have you installed any of the mods/tracks/cars that relate to driving on dirt?
perhaps one of them is the culprit - it changed something to make it seem "right" for itself and managed to change things for everything

Yes, I did put in the Chinese raly type course at one point and more recently the Pikes peek hill climb track. Perhaps if I delete these it will correct the problem. But could there be lingering files other than the actual track file in the locations folder that I might be missing? Thank you for the reply. The problem began with the Toban track, which is awsome, and now the Laguna Seca is affected, and Cataluna. It seems that addon and original tracks have the problem.

Yes, I did put in the ... more recently the Pikes peek hill climb track.

Did you do as the readme in Pikes Peak Hill Climb said?
Copy file 'specialfx.tec' to 'C:\GTR2\GameData\Locations\ folder (pls backup original file).

Try reusing your original specialfx.tec file.
You DID back it up hopefully.

I have a problem on all of my tracks the car just sits there running and all the sounds are there. just no movement. the car shakes and runs just won't move. I have pikes peak dirt loaded also. should I try and re install it ? I just downloaded a bunch of tracks last night, and ones that were working now are not. ANYBODY !!!

It is Pikes peak that is causing these problems. Go here to fix this.

Thanks, man !!! ...Love the pic !!! ...So if I do that all the other tracks should work ??? ...I thought maybe because I downloaded too many tracks. ...Is there a limit as to how many tracks you can download into the game ???

Thanks again for your quick response !!!

Nope no limit....It should fix the problem....several folks have had that same issue AFTER loading Pikes Peak, and I am not sure which one cause it. I have the dirt version and all is well on my pc so I would venture to say it is the asphalt version that is causing this. BUT other tracks in the past have also caused similar problems. When I install tracks, I only do a few at a time, and I immediately fire up the game....if i have problems, I yank all of those back out and place them back into the locations folder one at a time, until I find the culprit. Yes, that does take time, but it keeps the choices to a minimum.
And thanks @ pic....I like her too, lets just say she has a "bouncy" personality!

...One more thing. ...Where do I download that file to ??? ...Does it go in the folder I have for that track ???

Thanks again !!!:D

Sorry to be a bother ... If something happens and I delete the 2 versions of pikes peak that I have ...Will that eliminate the problem ???

I am a real dummy when it comes to all this hi-tech stuff !!!

The prob is when the specialefx.tec file gets overwritten by another track, dont let it do that, to fix the prob you need to get the original file again!!!

ok where do I get it from ??? ...Is that the link Phil gave me ???

I have a similar problem, where some of the crucial sounds are missing... the tire scrub sounds( i can't tell when I'm skidding), the limiter sounds, the gravel trap sounds, and the wall impact sounds... i don't have Pikes Peak... and the only thing I've done to any track is the texture update for Magny Cours here on nogrip, it happens quite a lot sometimes, I have to shut the game off and start it up again and switch the car/track config I chose... PLEASE HELP!!!!
Thanks in advance,

Yes and it goes in the LOCATIONS folder. I dont think you have to delete those tracks.....but just remove them until your sure all the others work correctly.

I am not really sure what could be causing that. It may be that you turned down those sounds in AUDIO settings? It could be that you added an audio mod that changed something, like thinlane's vette sounds....or a car had some new/missing AUD files. What I would do is rename your existing GTR2 folder to say GTR2 FULL (dont forget to make a new shortcut that matches)....then re-install GTR2 to a default location. Then compare the SOUNDS folder and see if anything is missing. If so, just copy it from the stock install. I currently have three installs on my pc, and one always stays bone stock!

....Thanks Phil, it worked just like you said it would ...I have been trying out all the tracks I have downloaded the last couple days and they all work so far. ...Some better that others. ....some won't let me out of the garage without slamming into a wall or something else. ...I took the pit assist off that happens on practice. ...But, when I time trial or race they work fine.

I downloaded both nurburgrings the one by I think it's race king, and the other by Dutch Devil. The one by Dutch Devil, when I go to practice, it slams my car into the pit exit wall and gets stuck. I took the auto pit off as far as I know. But it works fine for time trials and race. It does the same thing to me when I try to do a practice lap at Watkins Glen. ....And that sucks because it's my home track !!! ....Any ideas or quick fixes ??? ...If not, I guess I will just have to deal with it.

I for one have never even thought of using auto pit and have never tested that feature when releasing a track. I figure if the AI can find their way out onto the track, then the players shouldn't have too much problem. :D

...on some of the oval tracks the car goes down pit lane like its warming up the tires and smashes into the pit wall, and the other cars lined up on the side of the pits. It eventualy gets out on the track once it pushes the other cars out of the way. I have taken the auto pit off but it still does it on some tracks. ...Any ideas ???

If the Ai cars are running into the pit walls, it is because the waypoint corridors need to be adjusated away from the walls. Greybrad told me about this after I already did many of my conversions. I had started redoing AIW's and updates to my tracks to fix this but have got off on other projects of late.

...Any ideas as why I'm still slamming into walls when I leave the garage on certain tracks when I am practicing ? I have tried it with the auto pit on and off. Especialy on the ovals I try. It leaves out like it's warming the tires, and hits everything in it's path, until it gets out of the pits, or gets stuck against a wall. I'm clueless but, if it a race or time trials it works ok.

...How do you download new cars for this game? ...Is there a lot of B.S. involved? or is it pretty much the same as doing the tracks? Just a different folder?

Most car downloads have a specific destination folder. In most cases there is a comprehensive readme in the RAR file. Or the download page may reference where to place them, or both. When I first started this game, I would not DL "skins" or car mods. (I too, wasn't sure how)....but once I became more familar with the games file structure, I started to add them also. I now have almost thirty gigs of HDD space consumed by three installs. The main install has almost 18 gigs by itself. There is a lot of stuff out there. Some good some bad. So as to not clog the forums, with a lot of noob questions, don't hesitate to PM me, as I am always willing to help.

PS Vmrx is just doing his job....My first post, I got my hand slapped by him, as I asked how to do something, but didn't classify what game I was talking about! LOL

...Thanx Phil ...I noticed my disc space went down a bunch too, after I downloaded a bunch of tracks. Some of which I gotta get rid of because I am just not into them much. I am loving all of the older courses though ...Any idea if anyone has made the old Watkins Glen street circuit yet ???
