View Full Version : my first online experiences with GTR2

I just have to write this ;) : Today I drove my first two online races in GTR (both in sim mode), and it was great (not that I drive great, but the fun was big :) ). The first one was on Monza, I was the only NGT (911RSR, default set, slightly modified)driver in a 17 car field. Most of my opponents crashed out in the first corner, a few did that later in the 12 lap race, so I managed 3rd place behind two 550s, The second one was on the Nordschleife Tourist in a Corvette, somehow I took another 3rd behind a 550 and Lambo, but this time it took a lot more skill, since fewer drivers wrecked. Main thing is I am absolutelly stunned how good fun GTR2 is online. This is the best online racing game since NR2003! (I know I haven't discovered anything new with this statement, but you probably know the feeling, when you just can't stop yourself from typing ;) )

Now, every second of your life you'll want to race. :D

I do too, shame the servers are full of 'people' who dont know what braking for the first corner is. Well done to you for managing to finish!

Private racing series and servers are the only way to go now. Way to many people who cant drive on the pub servers. To many with the Toca mentality.
You got lucky for your first time, more often then not you wont be able to even finish due to the idiots.

Sadly I have to agree. But do check the Gamers Crib servers if you haven't been there already, they're the finest pub servers that are monitored constantly and that have ban lists for people not adhering to the rules of fair racing.

80% of the time that is. I have a job to you know. ;):p

It's also monitored in a way by GC members racing on those servers, maybe not actively but afterwards wreckers will be reported and warned/banned. So there's always a bit of social control there :)

Congratulations Altarir!!!
I'm such a nOOb that my first online race with GTR2 was my first online race ever, so I remember the buzz well!!!
I think you can be either lucky or unlucky with the public servers, I ended up joing a league so didn't race the open servers much (about 15/20 times) but only got wrecked once.
It is frustrating though:mad:
The next step could be joining a league, or just hanging out practicing on the NoGrip server.
Once you get to know a bunch of regulars, who just want to race for the fun and sportsmanship....there's no beating that.
I only ever race against the AI to practice for an upcoming league race these days! hehe.

In the meantime keep on having fun!

Well, yes I got lucky, and had a bit of online experience with NR2003 (sadly public online racing now in NR2003 is horrible, two times I got kicked out of a race for overtaking the admin, it used to be a lot better earlier) so I knew that in the first corner its best to go slow and off the ideal line, to minimize the risk of being taken out (or if the car allows that: go really fast so that noone has the chance to crash into my car, but with the only NGT car in the race, I had to go for the 1st option, and it payed off :) ). actuallly I like crashes in the first corner, as long as I'm not involved, and can benefit from them :)

Nonono:nono:, it's much more fun getting the whole pack through T1 cleanly and then race with everyone on the track ;)

I agree, even though 50% of the time you can use it to your advantage, it is better if everyone takes it easy through turn 1.
Problem is no`one wants to lose a place, so everyone tries to squeeze in or brake normally on the cold brakes/tyres :slap: I am happy if i can hold position through T1, but if i have to lose 1 or 2 so i don`t take someone out, then so be it.

Then you only have to make your way through the sea of red 550`s :p

Glad to see you`re enjoying what is the best part of racing games these days Altarir :drive2:

You forgot to finish with "...at Monza"

That is the only track you will race at online publicly. People are so narrow sometimes.

Also a BIG problem is that people drive the same lines as they are driving a hotlap.
So here goes 20 cars in T1 and everybody is going for the ideal line instead of holding the line that they are driving.
Comming into T1 on the outside of the track hold that line on the outside don't cut to the inside as there are probebly 10 out of 20 cars there.:p

Thats my tactic! Get to the outside because 9 out of 10 times EVERYONE dives for the inside. Leaves the way clear for me......... shame i get caught too easily in the end!

Absolutely... chaos nearly every time!
Also people don`t seem to realise just how inaffective racing brakes are when cold, so they slam on at the same point as their qual/hotlaps... BANG!
You are shunted from behind.

Just can't stop myself from writing this: A few moments ago I took my first online win in GTR2: 15 laps at Monza in a Ferrari 550, the race was held in dusk so I had to race with headlights on (for the 1st time in my GTR2 races), started 4th, made no mistakes, kept a steady pace and I'm proud of myself

You should try playing GT Legends online, you really have to work to keep your racing line, not just point the thing in the right direction :)

:D I vividly remember those moments of pure joy, doing your first clean online race, getting your first online win :) Great stuff, keep it going

I have nothing against GTL it's probably a good game, but for now I won't try it, I raced GPL, Rally Trophy, and I'm a little tired of historic cars, GTR2 is the first modern racing sim I drive (I wouldn't call NR2003 a simulation of truly modern racing: from what I remember they still run OHV engines with carburetors), besides, getting GTL here in Poland is a bit difficult

how true: in every race I've won so far, I started from the last position on the grid.
