Thanks to DutchDevil for the track
Note: Slight differences from SNR, GP layout, no GT40
Hope to be there.
No GT40, so I'll take Lotus Elan :)

I hope to be there too, never raced before with people who don't constantly ram me and block the track lol! No fear, I have read the rules and understand that these events are 'better by miles'

Should be able to show for WNR this week, I'll take the Corvette this time. Slower than the Cobra, but it's a bit less scary:-)

Given the fact that i'm still a bit of a noob what car would you recommend?

Thanks for the welcome 'Geoffers', the nerves are getting to me already lol. I figured being a GTR2 and EVO player would set me up nicely for this. I read the WNR rules and tips a couple of days ago, game arrived today, just completed a few Watkins GP with a hot lap of 2:16:511, which I will be able to improve, I hope lol! The Corvette seems like a 'safe' bet for me, I'm not gonna have time to test the others so that's my choice. First 'real' race needs a little preparation on the mental kind ;)
With the following article, which I learned about on nogrip.........

I'm ready to go baby!!!
Will the server be up tonight for praccy?

I'd say the Elan, although the tail can be a bit snappy. Corvette is a safe bet if you can deal with the understeer (ie steer with the arse end rather than the front :)) that's always good fun
CheesePipe, Nogrip used to have it's own server and was up for practice for a day or 2 before a race, but due to various reasons it fell away. Now Gamers Crib have very kindly allowed us to use theirs for SNR and WNR, and is usually up and running a few hours before the race.
I wouldn't consider the Corvette to be a car for "n00bs". It is extremely twitchy when power is applied. I would think that the Elan is the obvious choice, even though it does have that snappy rear end.

Hmm, well the setup I have for the Vette doesn't feel twitchy under throttle, but the only other alternatives are the Cobra and the TVR which are extremely twitchy under throttle, definately not for beginners.

Have tried the Vette, Cobra and Elan now. Actually found the Elan to be the easiest but it does give you a kick up the arse occasionally.

I've tried the Vette and Elan. I'm finding the Vette quicker cos I can't get the damn Elan round the track without spinning it. It handles great until I lose it on entry to a bend and find myself facing the wrong way lol. (now matter how late I leave the down change I still manage to screw it up) I'll give it another try with both later, I've managed to get the Vette into the 2:15's now.
In the actual race I'm just gonna have fun, play it safe and finish. That would be sweet.

The Elan handles fantastically right up until you get something wrong, then those skinny tyres will punish you and you'll probably go spinning off. I'd take the Vette just because it's so much easier to catch a slide in it, you can have a lot more sideways fun.
Losing the rear end under braking is the perennial problem if you're not used to the Elan. Getting the brake balance correct is important, and adding negative rear camber and coast side diff lock can help.
Alternatively, have you tried the black Cobra (289)? It's down on power compared to the bigger engined Cobras, but handles quite nicely compared to the other cars here.

mmmhh... Ok !
So I stop my GT 40's training, back to the Elan, or maybe the Cobra. Hoping be there, see you on the grid !
To CheesePipeDreams : The Elan is naturally easier than others which have same weight/power ratio, because it haves a mini weight. This is said by a noob, but this is right. But the most important in fact is that to find good settings...
Welcome to you ! :-)

I hope to join today's race, if time allows. I'm fed up with ramming and pushing off the track that normally happens online, and NoGrip promises a much better atmosphere. I read the rules and am prepared. See you all (hopefully) today!

I will probably miss this one. I want to do some more P&G2 testing before Friday's activation of the Gamers Crib P&G2 Server.

Had no end of technical problems. In the first race i wasn't registering laps at all and in the second Qualification I couldnt see half the peoples times. When the first race started my car was below the track. All highly annoying after qualifying in 16th (good for me). Any ideas what was wrong?
Replays here (http://files.filefront.com/ReplaysWNRWatkinsrar/;13909764;/fileinfo.html) for someone who asked in chat :)

I noticed a fair bit of warping from various cars during qually, but I had a quick look at the replay earlier, and quite a few cars (2 blue Cobras especially) where warping all over the shop. I very rarely get replays like like that. Maybe the server had a bit of an off day? Plus GTL is known for bugs like you mention when there's alot of cars on track, it's a pain in the arse when it happens, but we don't often get full grids like that.

Everyone's connection looked buttery smooth tonight, I haven't checked the replay yet but I didn't notice on bit of lag in both races.

I thought that may be the issue but wasn't sure.
Malcolm,
Just a quick note to say that you were spot on about the Corvette. It was surprisingly stable at this track, even when applying a fair bit of power
I needed that, haven't touched a race sim for several weeks, lost the motivation, but nice combo of powerful cars on a good track for racing, a lot of fun.
Just turned up and quallied, knowing the track well, so the setup wasn't too great, needed more rear bar and then I reduced the front toe-out for more top speed immediately before the race and ended up with even more understeer, that grew as the race went on.
Damn shame you ran a little wide Mogget, that Corvette was flying, would have been a fun fight as my Daytona got worse and worse as the race wore on.
Bit of a mess at the front of the field at end of lap 1 (race 2), had cars spinning left right and centre and suddenly appearing, but managed to weave through. :-) These V8s certainly get light exiting that uphill righthander. ;-)

That was fun last night even though i didnt do to good thought id try the the g25 again hopefully i kept out of peoples way when they were lapping me.

Good fun isn't it:thumbup: I didn't really get anywhere with it last night, Elans were too quick around the corners for me and I cooked my tyres sliding it all over the shop, damn good fun though :-D

Thanks IbnSolmyr
looks like surfers paradise then. No buggering about this time, I need to take the fastest car for the track regardless of how difficult to drive it is. I achieved a 2'11 at watkins. I notice someone did a 2'2 and realised at that point I wasn't as good as I thought I was ;)
What cars wll you guys be taking, I noticed the Cobra's seem to fly, what do ya think mateys :D
