View Full Version : Setting bump/rebound for the kerbs at Monza Jnr in the Elise

Lotus Elise Cup, third event: I have managed a decent initial pace in practice (0.58:xx) but need to find another second or so in quals to get pole.

The car is very light and I think I'm going to need either to avoid the kerbs around the chicane and T1, which puts me way off the line, or adjust bump and rebound settings to ride the harsh kerbs better.

I seem to recall that you stiffen both bump and rebound but can someone please confirm and advise re. the extent of the adjustment? I've done a lot of driving in the Elise and have found that a stiff rear ARB/soft rear spring combo plus soft front springs and ARB gets me the right degree of controllable oversteer but I'm a little ignorant about how to blend shock settings into my setup. It has not been an issue so far (at Barcelona National and Oschersleben B) but I don't think I will really be able to reach my best speed at Monza Junior until I have found a way to tame the kerbs. You cannot just power over them in a car of this weight.

Many thanks, guys, as ever...

I'm a little bit suspiscious about how hard can it be to ram over one lowsy kerb without losing control... :) This is just a guess really, but are you sure you aren't bottoming out in front? If you are, I suggest trying to get around the problem by rasing the packers a little. Much easier to control the car with the suspension bottoming out than to control the car with the body hitting the ground.

I'd use MoTeC to thoroughly analyse that bump and to see what's going on there. ;) 1/10 playback speed and watch closely how the suspension and weight transfer behaves.
