There are ports on your router and possibly your windows firewall that need to be opened.
First you need to know the ip of your server. Go to server cmd prompt and type "ipconfig" without the quotes. Take note of your number ie: 192.168.1.2
then go to router by typing 192.168.0.1 into Internet Explorer. You should be at router. Now look for port forwarding and assign them to the IP according to the TCP UDP ports listed in the game manual in C:\GTR2\Support. When there you should set the IP to be reserved for server or in windows to be static.

start menu all programs accessories command prompt
Windows button + r then type cmd then type ipconfig

It is just the command prompt but it needs to be on the game server computer to get its address

If you have more than 1 pc, and would like to set up one as the dedicated server goto http://www.portforward.com or www.practicallynetworked . you are going to need to learn more about networking. Opinion: as pc-gamers you people should already know this stuff about multi-player gaming or know: google is god.

...Syn...

ps: if you are trying to host a dedicated server and game on the same machine, you are asking for more headache than its worth, unless you have a quad-core power'd rig.

All I get is a very brief flash of a black box, There may or may not be characters on it.

Im trying to run a server on the same computer as I want to play it on, is that ok?

Both your router and your firewall will need to allow communication by opening and forwarding ports. The specific ports you will have to look up in the GTR2 manual.

Find out what firewall and router you have, and look at www.portforward.com how to set your ports (here (http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm) for routers and here (http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/firewalling/routerindex.htm) for firewalls). Search for GTR, GTR2 works similar to GTR.
