View Full Version : The Question Thread . .

Right here i have a question to everyone.
this thread could be used for asking proberly stupid questions insted of making a hole new thread or whatever,
My question is to the off topic moderators.
Is it possible to have a laugh here without you guys spoiling our fun ? (or my fun at least ) oh btw please see funny side of this as its not ment to be harmfull
simple yes or no answer no harm intended just i feal a bit cheased off at a few topics disapearing when all that was there was good spirits.
I Don't fancy reading an off topic section full of doom and gloom its off topic shouldnt their be virtualy no limits ?
There we go feal free to answer or give opinions and maybe could bring other questions into the thread about ANYTHING at all ... if you want the answer for somthing (off topic ofcorse) here's the place to ask it.
Please this is not for complaining this is to ask questions and get answers.
oh a little rule once somone else ask's a question no refferql or discusion should be mqde qbout previous questions only answers (should stop clogging it up )
Simple answer: Yes.
The reason why said threads are being locked, binned or both is quite simple.
When people click on a thread about a certain topic they expect to read and talk about that topic. Not about how long your hair is.
A lot of threads have goofing off in them and that's no problem at all, but there's got to be a limit.
In the past there has already been fireworks here because the "level of conversation" or whatever you would like to call it was dropping by the second.
People have left because of it, and us moderators and other site staff are still to this day being held responsible for it.
In light of that a lot of people have asked for a cleaned up off-topic, off-topic moderators, a chance to self moderate and for the moderators to keep the level at least halfway descent if the self-moderating seems to fail.
Since you're seeing us taking action again, I guess you can fill in the rest of the story for yourself.
Also, I have just answered this same question via pm. Would you like an answer via fax as well? ;)

Would you like to be shunned? Keep up the slacking and folks will pass you by.
Or does that need further explaination?

I think exageration is rampant in these parts, I can read Mally's posts just fine :?:

wow no need for that :crying:
And Viper please notice my effort in punctuation:mrgreen: ok i know it suck's But i'm trying
An effort to correct use of English is all I ask for.
I know you've lived in France for quite a part of your life so I can't expect it to be perfect, but we both know that you can do a lot better than you have done in many posts.
Stagman's comment is straight forward and very accurate. It may not seem very polite but he speaks the truth.
To answer your other question: yes, it really is that bad.
I simply don't read a lot of your posts for that reason. I CAN read them, but when I constantly need to read words or sometimes entire sentences twice to get them, reading can get very tiresome.
A very simple and clear example, from the first post in this thread:
should be mqde qbout
If I need to switch between an azerty and a querty keyboard I'm bound to get a few typo's as well.
But unless you have a problem with your sight you should be quite able to see what you have just typed, and all it takes is a few keystrokes to go back and turn that "q" into an "a".
An explanation about this post that once again hammers on your spelling:
I'm not trying to annoy you with this. I'm trying to get you to understand that it can be really quite bothersome for others to read stuff like that.
Try to look at it from a point of view of a person that has trouble with English.
"n a sid wut" -> "and I said "what?" "is something I'm able to correct because of things like context, sounds and knowledge of the language. But to someone that has trouble with English it's like deciphering hieroglyphs.
Footnote:
I needed to look up the correct spelling of "deciphering" and "hieroglyphs".
I typed "tryçing", "botersome", "stuf" but chose to correct them.
Because I type at quite a speed I usually get halfway through the word after my mistake before I spot it, hence I need to use roughly 5x backspace per typo.
Pizzaman
11 August 09, 17:45
querty
 It's called 'QWERTY'...
OMG you kill me
ravenmorpheus2k
11 August 09, 17:49
Don't want to be picky Viper but it's qwerty not querty. :D
EDIT: - Beaten to it by Pizzaman.
I am the same as you though, only usually it's after I have posted that I notice my mistakes, sometimes I don't spot them but I do make a concious effort to do so.
If you guys use Firefox it has a spell checker built into it. I'm using 3.0.12 and it underlines all incorrectly spelt words (that it thinks are incorrect at least) with a red underline and you can change it's dictionary to English (UK) instead of that foreign yankee brand. :D
I find that very useful.
 It's called 'QWERTY'...
OMG you kill me

Why do you think I said that it's the effort that counts?
QWERTY keyboards are EVIL!
mallyauto86
11 August 09, 19:18
i do switch between both. my laptop is QWERTY and this one is AZERTY.
But honestly i didn't think i was THAT bad i mean yes some times i can get a bit carried away and type in txty language but other than that i really didn't think it was that bad:crying:
And i don't look at screen when typing . . . nor do i read through again . . now i will start to though
and erm am i right spelling nor like that ?
Could i be Dyslexic ?
ravenmorpheus2k
11 August 09, 19:22
You're probably not lysdexic. Just a teenager living in the UK. :D
Nor is correctly spelt. :)

Good question. And the answer is...
You have to download a new dictionary from the mozilla firefox site iirc.
Either that or install the correct language version, i.e. the UK version in our case.
To be honest I don't entirely remember, it was a while ago I did it. I.e. more than a day ago. :D
I appear to suffer from selective short term memory problems at times.
Here's a link I found via google though that may be of help -

Doughnuts!
I thought you said you could actually spell/use punctuation but you just can't be bothered?!
The accepted spelling (albeit 'American') is 'Donuts'.
But in 'HM English' the correct spelling would indeed be "Doughtnuts'.
'Dognuts' is a 'Slang' term, and is used in Australia from way back.
