but can someone who has got a good way into the game tell me if this game gets harder..
the demos has been way to easy. i used the ffb tweak from the shift settings thread and its much better handling.
I started off on pro level, manual gears and med AI, took a few races to win with the lotus at spa and same again in london as it was a new track.
after that won every race, most of the time being in the lead by lap 2.
got the zonda and thought ok this should be harder!!!!
not!!! won spa straight away and only had to retry london once.
so thought ok time for Hard AI and take the racing line off..
same thing, won straight away at spa and took a couple of restarts at london
so does this game get any harder i was thinking of getting it but if its this easy there will be no challange and being as the online game is gonna be a wreckers playground the single player needs to be worth play!!!!
any advice would be great..

so what you want me to go through 15 shift related threads hoping someone has adressed a certain question. i did a search and did not find what i was looking for.
true in most games it would be common sense to belive it will get harder the further you go, but as i started with no aids and had no problem beating the AI even on the hardest setting and will play the quick race more than the career mode (2 laps is a bit short for me) so its not comman sense to think as i have just beat the Ai without problem on the hardest settings that it might not get that much harder....
anyway go back under your bridge please...evey post i have seen from you regarding this game has been "its crap blah blah blah" so why are you spending all day trolling posts about something you dont like and aint gonna play????

You don't need to start a new thread every time you have a question, ask in an existing thread...
Do you honestly expect a game aimed at 13 year olds to be hard? and even so, the demo probably isn't a good representation of the game...I haven't played the demo, but the real game isn't very hard either, it gets a bit harder as you go, but id say it's like running on 90% in Gtr2
The game is crap and as said in the last 10 threads that people started about this game, the majority agree.
Oh and by the way, when you don't title your post NFS:Shi_t, it's impossible to tell what game you are talking about with out reading the thread, If you notice this in Other Simulations -> General forum, not the NFS: Shi_t forum..

You can try and register @VirtualR, there's a post where you can place some questions for the Producers of Shift.
Here (http://www.virtualr.net/need-for-speed-shift-developer-qa/)
Btw a patch just came out.
Im having a great time with this game with the tweak of Holger, and the car balance all the way through to understeer (with patch installed) the driving now feels more real with the wheel and its starting to become similar to other sims ;)

I see great troubles ahead for them if they have a patch out already. Seriously, that would mean that they were working on it immediately after release (Which should say something about how it was rushed) - and surely every bug hasn't shown it's face yet. I see a gaggle of patches coming. You guy's are in for a mess.
I wonder if the console side is getting the same updates.

Again, as Moppy stated, do we really need a new thread for everyone's thoughts on something? Your more than welcome to enjoy it even if several others don't - just put your opinions in the right thread. Perhaps I should try the demo but the full game is IMO reasonably hard, though it does seem to depend on the track - the AI seem quicker at some than others. I suppose it all depends on how much of an alien you are. I'm running at medium difficulty and can win some events easily but really struggle at others. In the full game you often get a choice of which car to race, and some are quicker than others. If you really are quick then perhaps you can just chose a slower car.

No more than you do apparently. Or perhaps you just missed what I was saying.
Quite clearly it was rushed (atleast on the PC side) and half baked. I don't blame them for fixing what is broken, but all they are going to make is a mess within the community. But, releasing a patch for something as relatively small as this one THIS early is only going to confuzzle things.

I laugh at that statement. Honestly, that is the same excuse everyone is using these days - "Oh!? Just give it time?! You can't say that yet!" - and frankly, it's old.
I don't know why people are so quick to defend Shi(f)t in all honesty. It clearly is exactly what they were hyping, yet not what we read. Face it, all it is is half finished EA cashcow. Sure SMS could/will make something better from the engine, but right now it isn't what we hoped. Go ahead and enjoy it, but don't whine to those who don't and say stuff such as that.

They do but they are not always right. Especially when first impressions are influenced by pre-judgements.
I tried the GPL demo when it came out and like most people I was not impressed. Two years later I gave it a proper go and I'm still playing it (occasionally) now.
Having raced Shift for a few days now, I re-read the ASS interview with Ian Bell and the physics are just as he said they would be.

Don't know of if it's "hard" but in career some events throw you in a new car and track, so it's challenging.
And in quick race you can choose any track from start (unfortunately only owned cars and like 6 given cars or so) . Well, if you are into quick races vs AI cars I think it's better than rFactor. And you get money and stars (?), so the quick race mode is linked to the career's driver's profile.

Your one is old as well. i remember some guy with same mind reviewed the rFactor on most poular russian gaming site. He never knew that it's just a platform with huuge potental, and that there's so much amazing mods for rF.
Seriously, the more i live - the less i judge about anything at least until i know it very good.
i remember some guys on some russian community of RBR tweaked the DiRT's Impreza physics so much that it was even nearly the RBR physics. And while everyone else was blaming the DiRT, they were enjoying it, and so i did.
I didn't try the Shift yet, but i already know it has more or less editable physics, and then, well its NFS... It looks brilliant, and i would be glad if it's even a little bit harder than other games in NFS series from last 5 years - finally some children will stop dreaming of streetracing and will have to understand that driving such powerful cars isn't an easy thing. For the last few years here's hundreds of people here were roadkilled by the young 'streetracers' who just got a license and immidiately got a very powerful cars, and as the result, they couldn't control their cars properly and crashed them here and there.
So it's pretty fine for me if the mainstream stuff will gradually become closer to more pro stuff, maybe finally some 'mainstream people' will try to learn to use their brains more.

I find it interesting people judgung things like they are high authorities about topics they don`t have a clue about.
How can anyone judge realism in a simulation if there`s no knowledge of the assumptions behind said simulation? Do any of you know what mathematical formulations are used to calculate physical responses in any racing game, be it GTR, Rfactor, Iracing, Forza or Shift? :?:
People complain about Shift hyping, and yet don't say anything about Iracing hyping. As an engineer, I can guarantee to you that "laser scanning to a 1mm accuracy" blah blah or "disassembling a car completely and weighing its individual parts to model them in-game" is pure bull****. It would take a NASA super computer to run all these data in real time. Heck, they use scalar equations for tyre modelling! Live for Speed is the only game that I know of that models tyre wall deformation by using a rudimentary finite-differences technique.
And I also don't understand complaints about the number of threads about a game. How many threads there are for GTR2? Is there a rule where you can't start as many threads about a game?
IMHO, I think that the OP doubts are valid to justify the new thread creation. He wants to know something specific about the game, not the usual "Shift is great!" or "Shift is crap!" thing that's going on other threads. It's a chore to search for information on 10+ pages of pointless praising/bashing.

Well... the old Colin McRae Rally are pretty cool (no sim, but okayish handling in my opinion) so Dirt isn't that different although it was a different team at that time.
I mean even rFactor isn't that impressive (like RBR) on gravel surface.
Now I have no freekin clue as to what you are referring.:?::?:
Richard Burns Rally is about the best there is for me.
True. But at least in console gamers communities CMR Rally und WRC (PS2) are way more popular. Of course that doesn't make them sims. So with Shift it's the other way round, it's no "true" Sim but it's neither a semi-sim like GT and Forza nor an arcade game like the previous NfSs.
RBR and iRacing's physics are great but if you aren't into rally or online league races both are not very interesting or good, are they?

Yep. At least for me it's not that much about 'easy' or 'hard', it's more about the car handling and the challenges that Shift delivers.

i agree 100% m8 well put. i also dont understand why some people get so upset about the number of threads regarding a game, i was not repeating what has been said 100 times before, i had a specific question that had not been addressed in other threads and thats why i started a new one:thumbup:

Yep. At least for me it's not that much about 'easy' or 'hard', it's more about the car handling and the challenges that Shift delivers.
yer of course the handling matters its not gonna be fun if the drive is no good.
i just felt from playing the demo it seemed very easy on the hardest settings so i didnt want to get it and always be in the lead by end of lap one and driving off into the distance for the last lap as i did in the demo...

Live for Speed is the only game that I know of that models tyre wall deformation by using a rudimentary finite-differences technique.
NFS Shift seems to do that too. If you disable shadows, you will see some tyre wall deformation too and the tyre deformation is not global but can apply only to one part of the tyre....so this tyre (contact patch at least) is physically modelled as several different elements.
If you open the physics file for tyre, you will see that the static slip curves used in GTR2 are present but not used anymore (curve is now a straight line, slope 1 from 0 to 1), and new stiffness parameters appeared...it means they use a different tyre model, not based on a static slip curve deformed under load. Maybe something like LFS.
interesting.
concerning game difficulty. Demo does not save (at least for me) difficulty settings, I had to set it again to pro mode and disable helps every time.

I played the demo very briefly, so I didn`t notice tyre deformation. It would be good to know if this is just a graphical effect or if it`s physically modelled.
If this deformation is actually physically calculated, it would be a step towards calculating tyre temp distribution and wear more precisely, even if it`s not used in Shift (maybe in a future game).
If they are using stiffness parameters, it probably means they are modelling some sort of elastic deformation of the tyre, probably based on a method such as Finite Elements or Finite Differences(more probably).
Concerning difficult settings, I found the game difficulty appropriate on the demo. I had a difficult time managing the exaggerated oversteer, but I think when I tinker with controller settings and car setup (on the full version), I`ll be able to bring it to a more neutral handling.

You can sit here and insult each other and go on like children
example ................... you dont have a clue either
But if I say I played the demo and I think its crap ( i did say it has lovely graphics and models .....oh you somehow MISSED THAT ) ;p
SO I am a troll so I cant remark I played it to and did not think much of it.
ROF
IMHO ITS CRAP and I have every right to say so as the question was open.. ...........

YOu just tried it....tahts not enough...unfortunately you have to tweak this game while EA doesnt release another patch.
This game has alot of potentialities you just need some patience...its using a some sort of Gmotor2 (one from GTR series) so it has future :)
