When will SPEED in the US start to show the V8 Supercars? I thought it was around this time last year when they started showing it.

starts soon.
By the way.. speed channel sucks :) Unless you like nascar. We get a few good road races here and there... but what sucks about the races they show in the winter is that they are usually 1 hour highlight shows over filled with way too many commercials.

SPEED might suck but it's the only channel that shows racing in our country. And some people in certain parts don't get this channel at all. I just wish that they could focus on more than one thing. The programming is dominated by NASCAR but I'm thankful for everything else they show.:banghead:

Speed may suck, but everything is relative and I am very happy with it. nascar rules Speed, but everyone knows that Nascar has sucked up all the interest and money in USA motorsports, so thats where Speed mainly lives (on advertising generated by Nascar events).
So, in the middle I get to watch ALMS, Rolex, Champ car, LeMans, Sebring, Daytona 24h, F1, and some strange boxycar Nascar clone racing in Australia. Mostly live and at hours I usually have nothing better to do than sleep.
Of course, I still remember the days here in Alaska when we had a 2 week tape delay for our broadcast TV programming. Thanksgiving Snoopy for Christmas and even the evening network news 2 weeks late. I guarantee that Nascar is better.
I remember the days my wife needed her ham radio license and a big antenna on the roof to talk (for free) to folks around the world. Now all I need to do is push a button and a smiley face circles the globe :)
Last week I had to instal the snowplow on the 4-wheeler and I spent today working on the snowmobile for a short trip tomorrow.
Life is getting better all the time.

Nascar has 2 fine road course races each year (Watkins Glen and Infineon). Of course team owners often hire temporary ringers (road racing aces) to help in the owner's points. The ringers seldom win though cause regular nascar drivers beat them at their own specialty. This proves that oval racing is harder and better training than road courses and why F1, champ car and other series drivers are always trying to move up to Nascar.:D

Nascar drivers have the pleasure of driving those cars all year long... road course guys sub one or two races. I don't see hardly how you can classify the nascar drivers as better. Both are good at their own thing. I've seen plenty of nascar drivers get smoked on a road track in cars that were specifically build for road racing. You also have to remember that many nascar drivers also drive in such series as Grand Am and ALMS. A lot of them have road racing experience.
Its also been proven that drivers typically move to nascar for both more money and more fame. Plain and simple. Total up race winnings, endorsements and such and you can make more money than any other driver in any other type of racing.

So, talent moves up to where the rewards and challenges are best. Thats why you dont make much money or compete against much talent in figure 8 school bus racing- its not oval!
I have even heard of Aussies trying to get into Nascar (so much for the "poor but honest" argument for road racers. BTW: Nascar cup drivers dont have to purchase their rides like in some other series.
Dont take me very serious in any of this. While it is true that I went down south to Tennessee in August to watch the nascar truck race at Bristol, I am much more interested in going to the 12 hours of Sebring race week in Florida in March.
(However watching the Lumber Liquidators Toyota pickup banging and rubbing at 180 mph does hold some charms.)

Speaking of Speed channel, there is a very good and long video interview with Emanuele Pirro explaining the controls of his Audi R10 and discussing various shifting and other items of interest to us sim drivers at the speedtv.com main page: http://www.speedtv.com/speedvideo/?bcpid=340473122&bclid=595223643&bctid=1256317668

Normally they will start showing the V8 Supercars around Christmas. Normally it will be two one hour shows back to back except the Bathurst race then it is the complete two hour show just for that race. Of course these shows are not the complete race, they will jump ahead by skipping the caution periods or skipping laps that don't have a lot of close racing or passing. I always look forward to the V8 Supercars.

Someone posted a link somewhere in these forums to a site that had divx race vids, stuffed if I can remember where though. You could always try torrents, don't know how much racing vids you'd find but I found some on p2p before.

Without all it's NASCAR programming, speed might not exist! How much demand do you think is out there for *other* racing in the U.S. I can tell you, the average joe on the street hears 'racing' and all they know is NASCAR. Mention anything else and you get a blank stare.
There's a reason Speedvision sold to Fox! Road and Track (or Car and driver, I forget) did a great article on SpeedTV last year, it turns out they almost DID become the NASCAR channel exclusively which was the direction Fox wanted them to go (sort of like how they've gone with FOXSW - but that rocks with the EPL).
Folks, there's a reason why stuff like FIAGT is on during the winter in the middle of a weekday or 0400 in the morning - and some stuff like Street Tuner or Trackside is on in prime time. That's what sells advertising and pays their bills.
It's easy to beat up speed, but you should understand the economics as well.

my beef with Speed is :
if and when they show good programing
F1, MotoGP, SpeedGT, SpeedTouring, BTCC, V8's, etc
don't show it twice on odd days and late in the morning
find more times to show the programs and maybe the exposure will build a following
and support the channel...

NASCAR's popularity is mainly due to it's position as the only "All-American" top tier racing series. I often wonder if the France's paid either Tony George or CART to cause their split, it isn't merely coincidence that their split and NASCAR's ascendency coincide. As a kid I started watching racing in the late 70's, and the Indy 500 was the epitome of American racing. Today the IRL and ChampCar both are, or essentially are, single car formulas, and don't have any widely known American drivers consistently winning. Until that situation reverses itself (which seems unlikely), or someone else comes along, NASCAR will retain the spotlight, and therefor the coverage.
F1 has retained live coverage on Speed, but how long will that last without a USGP?
