View Full Version : Spoilt by Simbin/RFactor/G25 to go back to Forza 3

I have been an avid fan of Forza Motorsport ever since the 1st title was released on XBox. Forza 2 was probably the most eagerly anticipated title I have ever waited for, partly brought on by this Forum for which I spent so much time viewing during the build up. I remember now waiting up at night to download the Forza 2 Demo as soon as it was aired on Xbox Live. Also recall booking a day off work to pick up my Pre-order of Forza 2
I went the whole hog with Forza 2, buying the Xbox steering wheel, the gamer chair rig..Absolutely loved it, spending months solidy playing the game and customising cars. I remember thinking how could any other title ever get close to this for simulation...This was until I discovered PC Racing simulations, and namely Simbin Titles and RFactor Big Smile
I bought myself a tip top PC gaming rig, Logitech G25 and it pains me to say but I never looked back to Forza 2.
Now Forza 3 is here and of course I had to buy it...but oh man it just isn't working for me. There are some nice new features, the cockpit view is a nice addition and was most definetly required, but it is nowhere near close to GTR2/Race07/Rfactor, etc.
The AI for starters hasn't moved on it seems since Forza 2. It just feels like the AI are on rails. I have set to Hardest level, but can pass with ease on most attempts. Just points like 8 cars per race, 3 laps per race, no qualifying, etc killed it for me..All I could manager was an hour before finding myself pulled back to GTR2.
I guess the main thing that lets Forza down for me now is having to go back to the MS Wheel after having spent the last 2 years on my Logitech G25. I just can't bring myself to bring it back out the cupboard its been stored in..I've considered the Fanatec Wheel, but I just can't justify another wheel at the moment.
Can anybody make any direct comparison for the Fanatec Wheel agains the Logitech G25 and the MS Wheel..Ideally I'd like to hear from users that have specifically used it with Forza 3, whilst also having experienced the G25 on PC games and MS Wheel on Forza 2.
Would it be worth purchasing the Fanatec wheel to bring me back over to Forza, or is it over by the fact that I have just moved on to needing more simulation from what Simbin/RFactor brings to the table?

LOL just read this thread on the Forza forums then came over to NoGrip, was seriously confused for a minute :?:
I would say that it mainly depends how much the sim physics and the AI intelligence matter to you. Personally I enjoy Forza for the customisation of cars, the liveries, etc. and I mainly play online once i've finished the career so i'm not too bothered by the AI. Its especially good if you can get a good group of friends together to race with regularly, or you could go a step further and join a league. I still prefer the realism of GTR2 but Forza is just 'sim' enough for me for it to be enjoyable. The question is do you feel the same...
...If you do then as someone suggested on Forza forums you could consider selling both the G25 and the MS wheel and investing in a Fanatec wheel? Both work perfectly with PC and Xbox. A Fanatec wheel would undoubtedly improve your experience on Forza (but it still wont change the physics unfortunately). I can't help you with direct wheel comparisons, I only use a wheel on PC sims and manage with a controller on Forza, but I have read that the Fanatec wheel feels MUCH better than the MS wheel in Forza3. And that FF in Forza3 seems improved from Forza2.
If you do decide to stick with it feel free to add me, GT is Kellyshwan. I'm still playing career and trying to get a few good cars together in each class before I venture online but with the new matchmaking system its always good to meet clean racers (which I assume you are being a GTR2 fan :-D) to fill private lobbies.

Have a look in the computech section of this site, there is a wheel overview thread there.
Perhaps there is some info about the wheel you're interested in there.

Thanks for all the comments..Not done me so good though, as I'm now torn between selling both my wheels for the Fanatec!
The review posted in the Computech section is spot on...I ran it past the wife last night, and didn't go down to well with Christmas on the way!
Think will hang in there with my G25 and PC Sims for now, let Forza 3 gather some dust until I can justify chopping both wheels in for the Fanatec.
Thanks again!

My story is simular, only I'd have to swap Forza for Gran Turismo, and the G25 for a beat up old Driving Force. But regardless of how beat up it is, compared with a DS2 controller, it feels great to feed in steering input apexing a turn, then it ever did to use my thumbs on the DS2.
And since getting back into GTL again, and working my way through those races, I can't imagine ever again spending 5 minutes on a console racer. GTL and GTR2 have set the benchmark so high for me, that topping them would probably require getting into a real race car.

Yeah i used to play Forza 2 online alot. When i saw F3 ignored what motorsport fans wanted, like night racing, qualifying, pit strategy, 12+ car grid (most important for me), it became clear i needed to look elsewhere for a proper RACING simulator, none of this car collecting, 2 lap races nonsense.
I kept wondering to myself, will their ever be a game that features day night cycle on a track like nurburgring, and more than 20 car grid. Ironically on the forza forum some guy stated how GTR2 had 60 cars on grid and posted screenshots of rfactor 2. From then on i knew the pc was my only hope. I was originally put off by GTR2 because it only had a few cars and many uninteresting "slow" tracks, until i found out the game was very moddable and still had good graphics after checking out You Tube Videos. I see myself playing GTR2 for years to come.
Heck go to gtplanet and you'll be amazed at the amount of people who just want gran turismo 4 with hd graphics in the new GT game. The guys at sim racing tonight on youtube liked the fanatec wheel. Base model cost 300$.

Turn 10 never promised these features: Forza Motorsport has always been a car collecting game. Of course I would have loved Night racing or more than 8 cars, but don't act like Turn 10 broke any promises with Forza 3.
As for the 2 lap racing, have you played any of the single player? 16 laps of Le Mans?

Still, most of those career races in Forza 2 were those 10 minute races on different variations of the same track over and over. Doesn't forza 3 claim to have over 200 events? There is nothing new in Forza 3 that interests me one bit. I'm satisfied with GTR 2 and I doubt there will be any game that will surpass GTR 2 on the consoles in the next 5 years.
Didn't one of the PR person say that Forza 3 "would be the definitive RACING game this generation" and how polyphony digital passed the baton to them  ......

1) I don't know how much you ahve played of Forza 3, but most of the races that I'm doing 15% into the game are around 10-20 minutes.
2) PR men will always blow air up their own asses. On the back of the rFactor box I have right here it says "Welcome to the future of Racesims 100% Realistic" and "Stunning Graphics". While I don't agree with either of those it doesn't take anything away from the game. After reading this article he doesn't say anything that isn't true. It will be the best part or 8 months before GT5 comes out, and even then I have no doubt there will be people who criticise the game. Right now, there is no game that comes close to Forza for what it is. As I said before, Turn 10 didn't break any promises with Forza 3.
3) I would love to see day/night cycles, 24 hour races are all I do in GTR 2. Weather would be good too.

I only bought an Xbox 360 a week or 2 ago, and grabbed Forza 2 second hand from Cash Converters for $15. I think the game would just be too easy with a wheel, using the controller with the game on highest difficulty and ABS the only aid it still isn't that hard. The hardest part is controlling some of the more powerful cars with nothing but your fingers.:-D I never finished Forza 1 on Xbox because it got boring racing the same tracks all the time, Forza 2 will probably be the same after a while, so Forza 3 might be a rental or 2nd hand buy for me I think.

I recently commented in another FORZA topic about this.
I bought FORZA3 when it came out, played it for a couple of days, then traded it in and went back to my PC sim racing!
If you'd have told me I'd be doing that six months ago, I would NEVER have believed you!
I thought FORZA3 was a MASSIVE disappointment. The cockpit view is useless (you feel like a granny driving with your nose on the windscreen), and the game itself doesn't look or feel any different to the second one to me.
Within the space of six months, I've turned from a console-only gamer into a total sim-racing addict!
In fact, I think I need help to stop playing them!

I dont understand why more users just do not spend $70 and get an adapter that allows you to use your G25 etc with the 360.
Although the hardware is not officailly supported the adapters allow the devices to work and they work well enough to put the ms wheel to shame.

My friend has one and I'll ask where he got his. He has a momo working with Forza and says its great.
http://www.xcm.cc/360.htm - They have some different offerings so it might be worth looking at their products. Then would check out the resellers and see what they have in the UK.
I'm picking up a Sniper Plus so i can use my mouse and keyboard, not tried it yet but from everything i have read it looks great.

Say what??:?:
The main reason I never got one of these adapters is I had no idea that they were in existence.
Anyone know where to get one in the UK??
edit: I found some for sale on ebay that are in the UK but exactly how well does it work with a G25 and Xbox?? Info seems rather sparse on this subject and I have turned up nothing? Anyone know?

WHHHHHHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!??? you can use the G25 with the 360? I was thinking of buying the fanatec that works with the 360. I'll have to get one of those adapters.

I've only read small comments at various places about the adapters working with all wheels. The friend who has one uses a Momo and it works. you still need a wired controller though as it is used to bypass the circuitry encryption MS uses.

Those adapters do not support Force Feedback and it is impossible that this will ever happen as the FF on the 360 is completely different to the FF on a PC or PS3.
We would be the first to offer such an adapter as we have the know how but it is just not possible.

I was just wondering if it is impossible how the hell did you manage to make a FFB wheel which works with the 360, the PS3 and the PC as well??
Compatibility:
* Xbox360:
The wheel is compatible to all games which support the Microsoft wireless wheel for Xbox360.
The 6+1 Speed shifter is compatible to all future racing games which support this shifter.
* PC / PlayStation3
The wheel can be connected with an USB cable to PC and PlayStation 3 and it features full force feedback effects on those platforms.
With the optional RF dongle (PWTRF) you can upgrade the compatibility with a wireless connection to PlayStation®3 and PC.
Seems like you have already done it??:?:
I don't mean to sound like a fanboi here but for the money of a fanatec wheel and clubsport pedals you could buy a PS3 and GT5: Prologue. If you would have had a chance to play the GT5 Time Trial Demo that had the new physics I think you would find them to be a whole lot more like GTR. Also, I'm a member of GTPlanet and they have posted a lot of videos of the new sound of GT5. It sounds soooo much better than all the other Gran Turismo's it's crazy. Sounds a lot like GTR now. I am very eagerly awaiting it's launch. Until then, it'll be GTR. Also, if you do decide to do this or play somebody else's. GT5Prologue doesn't get difficult until you get to the faster "S" class cars. But, thankfully, the GT5:TT demo even the bone stock 370z was pretty difficult to control when pushed to the edge... As it should be for any vehicle.
With Turbo S-wheel Forza is quite good, I've been driving it a lot recently, it has keep me away from iRacing. Can't drive all games at the same time, and time is limited, you know...
