View Full Version : G25 is shaking at startup of GPL..??

Hi guys...

Yeah, it's the ole Geezer again. :-)

My 'new' GPL is working like a dream and I am enjoying it sooo much! However I have one nagging problem. When I startup GPL using GEM, etc, all is good until I get to the screen just before getting into the cockpit of my car. Then my G25 starts shaking like crazy...:?:

I have found a work-around...plug in my G25 before I start GEM, then go into GEM, then GPL and then immediately disconnect and re-connect the wheel. Then I can proceed on into GPL and all is fine.

Obviously this is not a big deal but I was wondering if someone else has had this problem and found a fix for it..:?:

Sure appreciate any comments.

What are your settings in the game controllers window and in the core.ini under [ Joy ]?

Mmm...

Sounds strange. What do you mean by "shaking"? Does the whole wheel unit shake? Just the wheel itself?

G25`s calibrate themselves on start up (as I`m sure you know) is it doing that again by any chance?

Anyhow... I`m sure Bob will help get you sorted up. :)

I had that went away when i got the 5.04.110 drivers it all so made everything else better with the feel of the wheel

It's probaly one of the settings in the core.ini. Can't remember for sure but I think it's the latency setting

edit: Maybe the damping setting. I am looking for the thread on FFB sttings for GPL. Will post the link when I find it.

Hi Solly,

I think you might have the answer but I cannot find the driver you listed. Can you tell me where you found this?? I've searched but cannot find a driver for the G25 ...even on Logitech..??

Many thanks..

Hi TJC!

Thanks for the reply! I plug my G25 in and it configures to get ready for racing. Then, when I go into GPL, the whole unit starts shaking like crazy....like it is going to break..?? I unplug it, the re-plug it and all is fine.

GPL is the ONLY sim that causes this effect....all other sims are fine, the G25 functions like a dream. ???

Hi Bob...

Many thanks for your help! Here are my settings in the Core.INI...

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1 ; Use FF if device has it 0 = No * 1 = Yes
force_feedback_damping = 40 ; force feedback damping coefficient - Default = 40.0
force_feedback_latency = .085 ; force feedback latency (secs) - Default = 0.085 0.0040000
max_steering_torque = 225 ; steering torque in N*in giving max device force - Default = 225.0
;FFB steer vibe freq mult = 0.2000000

I hope you can make some sense out of all of this..:-) And...hope we can find the problem...

Dixie1You're just using the original default settings. You definitely want to reduce the Latency to almost 0
Mine are:

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1
force_feedback_damping = 10
force_feedback_latency = 0.00005
max_steering_torque = 230

Also go to control panel > game controllers and let me know what the settings are for the wheel there.

I have all settings there at 0 except for Overall force at 110%

Hi Bob,

I THINK we have found a big chunk of the problem. I reset the JOY as you suggested but...I cannot find the control panel> Game controllers that you mentioned. I have the setup pages in GPL but nothing like you are referring to.?? I checked the files and did not see any settings for the wheel either, except for the <JOY> that I fixed. ???

I have the 'in-game' stuff...calibration and control assignments but nothing like you have mentioned. Maybe I am totally missing something but I can't find this section. Got a feeling that I have missed a BIG ONE.

Please let me know more about this...where to look, would you?

Many thanks.

Hi Bob,

After my last reply, I sat here thinking and wondering what I was missing...and what could you have been talking about re Control Panel. Well..then it dawned on me to open my 'computer' control panel and check it out. Sure enough, there was my G25 under 'Controllers'...Duh!!

The settings for it are almost all 100% and I did not change them because I wanted to send this mail to you first to be sure we are on the same page.

I suppose my main question now is..."if I change these settings to match yours, how is it going to effect all the other sims I have..?? GTL, GTR/2, Rfactor, etc, etc. ????

One thing that I want to mention about this situation. This only happens on one Sim...GPL. If I re-connect the wheel after loading GPL and before going into the race/practice, then it is fine...no problems and it drives like a dream. This is why I was just going to simply put up with a re-connect and not worry about it..<G>

Your thoughts would be appreciated and I thank you so much for your help.

Hang in there..

Dave

To Bob, TJC, jimead and Solly,

I appreciate all the time you guys have spent trying to help me out with my G25. I have tried all the fixes you have sent me and, unfortunately, they have not helped in this particular and aggravating situation. :-(

However...I got to thinking hard about this and came to the conclusion that all is not bad...not at all. :-D It only happens with GPL and the work-around is so easy!! I simply plug in my G25, start GEM and then GPL and at the first screen of GPL, I unplug then re-plug the G25 and it works perfectly! Everything is there, and the cars/tracks, etc are great!! :thumbup:

Just in case you guys are wondering why I have to unplug and plug in my G25 all the time....well....it is because I am also a Flight Simmer and have a CH Flight Sim yoke and pedals. I have a 'corner' desk and everything works perfectly, alternating the G25/CH flight sim depending on what I want to do, race or fly..:-) When I am flying or racing, the 'other' equipment is stored within reach under my desk. I have everything arranged so that it takes me less than two minutes to switch them out and race or fly. The USB plug for both units is located under my desk at my left hand.

I do this because I discovered that it is not possible to have both the G25 and the CH Yoke and pedals plugged into the computer via the USB at the same time. Major, major conflict..!! :-D

So, with all this said...I just wanted to thank you guys for your help. GPL is working like a dream...loaded a bunch of new tracks and they are perfect. Now....if I can just learn to drive these wildcats..:-D

Now...don't laugh....but if there is anything this ole Geezer can do to help you guys, just let me know, ok?? :thumbup:

One more thing Dave. There's a utility called GPLShift which lets GPL see more axes. This might just do the trick. When you install GPLShift, open the GPLShift.ini and set the line, near the end of the text,
[ GPL AXES ]
Share_All_16_AXES = 1

Also, did you try the FF patch linked to in post #6? If you use that, reduce both dmping and latency to 0.

Hi Bob! I am one happy camper...:-D :-D You did it, my friend!! :thumbup:
I did as you suggested in your post today and IT WORKED!! :-D I do not know if it was the GPLShift.ini change or changing the damping and Latency to "0" but it is working fine now! I fired it up few minutes ago and...NO SHAKING!!:thumbup: I then drove the Nurbergring and it was super. The wheel feels a lot different/better now. It handles really well and has very good FFB when I run off the road..:-) and then back on. Vibrates like I can imagine it would in real life.

I had already installed GPLShifter on the recommendation of one of the great GPL group here on NO-GRIP, so I simply changed that per your suggestion. I then changed the Control Panel Controller setup and it is great.

I just ran rFactor and GTR2 to see if they were still ok and all is fine.

So glad to get this fixed and not have to re-connect it all the time. By the way, the new tracks I've dl'd are really great. Super scenery, etc. And it is a real treat to drive the "old" GP tracks...the way they used to be! Super!

Many thanks for all your help and especially you hangin' in there to help me get this straightened out. :-D

He he he...well, you sure solved this one! :thumbup:

I do have one more question.. (Oh no!! Not another one!! :-D)

I have been reading the GPLShifter README file today and it is full of some good and interesting stuff! I ended up at the website and found that you are one of the 'Gurus' for this program!! Hooray!! Did not know this so I couldn't wait to ask you a question! :-D

I have been wondering if I can use some/all of the buttons on my G25 shifter instead of the keyboard? I have not been able to find an answer in the README. I would like to use the RED buttons for PAUSE, RESET, REPLAY, the POV button for different views and, last of all, the four black buttons on the top of the shifter for different things. Is this possible?...and, if so...how to do it?

I knew you could answer these questions if anyone could..:-)

Many thanks once again!! :thumbup:

For any other specific messages or commands that are not listed in the GPLShift.ini you'll need to use the Logitech Profiler which lets you assign keyboard keys and combinations of keys to wheel buttons.

Open the profiler, click on the button of interest and a menu comes up to assign a key etc.

You then need to have the profiler running while you're in GPL for the key assignments to work.

Great!! I am familiar with the Logitech Profiler and will do as you suggested. I thought that it, (the profiler), might come into play but was not sure.

Many thanks once again!!!

Hi Bob...just a quick question, I promise..:-) I did as you suggested and opened the Profiler and assigned the PAUSE command to the RED button #4 and RESET to the RED #3. I then minimized the Profiler, started GEM, then GPL and tried it out. Nothing..:?:

I tried it several times with no success. I note that you said that I had to have the Profiler running while I am in GPL. Does minimizing Profiler cut it off?
How do I keep it running or....start GPL with the Profiler when I am using GEM?

Crazy questions but I am stumped.:?:

One important thing. This is NOT critical...just thought it would be nice. :-) Everything else about the "new" GPL is outstanding and I am loving it..:thumbup:

I personally don't like running the profiler while GPL is running (just one more thing that I have to remember to do) - and as well, I don't have a need for it - but you can test it yourself. Just run the profiler without minimizing it as a test.

Thanks Bob. I might give it a try but as I thought more about it tonight, I really don't need this little extra...so I might just use the keyboard. No big deal.:-)

I have 'tuned' my .ini file to match yours and it is really nice. My rides are feeling good now and doing so well on the tracks that I am going to leave it alone and ENJOY!! Egads!! Did he really say that...?? :-D

Many, many thanks!! :thumbup::thumbup:
