Great new video there:

It shows everything.
Nice to see that it is possible to stall the engine!
If this game accepts other cars....then it's perfect! :)
In most games like RT, there is no special treatment for grass, it is a surface like another one. Models don't take in account how bumpy a field can be. The best they can do like in Mobil1 is to make the grass sticky to prevent users cutting turns.
Here it seems to me that they model the bumps. Sbdy who has the game can confirm this impression? Cutting a turn means just less grip like in RT, or like in reality so much bumps than you slow down a lot, damage your car, and even lose control at high speed?

it depends how much you cut the corners, but saying that there just isnt room to cut them much anyway..
I havn't played much yet (work work work) but the stages are mad... much better/more realistic than RT, if you ever played Mobil 1 rally then they are narrow/twisty like those but with the details of RT+ (of course the gfx on the ps2 version i'm playing aren't up to pc standards, but having seen PC screenshots you knwo they will be amazing
as for bumps, I noticed on 1 of the american stages that there are some nice potholes, and boy you dont want to hit them at any speed if you want to stay in control of the car ;)

No please! No sticky grass like in Mobil1! That is one part I don't like about that game. Running a car on grass doesn't slow it down much unless it's high. Being very high it will of course stop the car basically in the same way as if you drive into a bush. If you look at WRC in Astralia and Kenya (when they still had it in the calendar...) they usually cut grass areas A LOT. They can take the car 10 m off the road to make it a straight line over the grass and you can't notice the car slowing down because of that...
If they make the stages realistic, you just can't cut everywhere cause there will be ditches, banks, bushes, trees, rocks and so on allmost everywhere. But in some places there won't be, so then it's ok to cut a lot.
Remember that cutting corners in real life basically means placing the car very tight on the apex of the corner but still having the car on the road. Maybe just one front tire in the ditch... In most games "cutting" means driving fully straight in a s-turn taking the whole car way off the road, or going basically inside the apex.

just been playing some more, and thats exactly how it is.. best practice is not to cut much at all :P
A very interesting video. On face value, watching the car, it does not seem too different from RT. So, the physics is probably pretty good.
As you say, the stage looks so much better. I like the marshall leaping out of the way!
It's not a case of not being possible in RT either, stages like that can be created (will look a bit different graphically obviously). What struck me was that the very heavy camber on the road and the narrowness made it look far more realistic (this has been said before in other threads for future stages and proof that the idea is the right one). The roads look more natural in layout with some fast turns and good junctions.
I love the replay with the in car view inset...is that how all the replays are?

It is put afterwards to that video.
