View Full Version : Strange modelling problem (GTR2)

Ok, weird and frustrating problem. I just want to make a couple of small changes to some bodywork, so I imported the body and both bumper .gmt files into Zmodeler2. I only moved a few vertices on the rear bumper. The front bumper needed a bit more work, so I chopped it in half, reshaped it, copied, mirrored & attached it, all as per normal. For the body, I detached a panel, reshaped it and reattached it. I duplicated body_a as body_b, and moved a few body_c vertices to make it roughly the right shape. I then repacked the .gtr file. So far, so good.

But of course it didn't work.

Through a long and tedious process of ctd-based elimination, I've come to the conclusion that while nothing at all shows up in the showroom or selection screen, the revised bumpers do appear on the car in-game, but the reshaped body makes the program vomit in my lap (as does my attempt at making the wheels narrower).

I've tried exporting the files two ways: first straight from Zmod, and then by importing the Zmod output into 3dsimed and re-exporting it as a GTR-specific file. No joy.

There are many trivial things I don't understand about modding GTR (like why the game crashes if I try to point the .cas at a different set of wheels) but clearly I'm doing something fundamentally wrong in this instance. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

you dont need to pack the .gmt into a .gtr
as a matter of fact, none of my WiP's even have a single .gtr untill its time to do cockpit motec / dials.

hint: run gtr2 with tracing...
c:\gtr2>gtr2 -trace=1000

logs to C:\GTR2\UserData\LOG\trace.txt

remember you MUST resave the .gmt with 3dsimed before using it.

Interesting you should say that - when I had the bumpers working, it was without any help from 3dsimed.

Actually, I just thought of something else: the first time I tried reshaping the fenders, I did it just by moving a couple of verts. It looked crap, but it did show up in the showroom. Could the showroom/selection screen issue be something to do with detached verts*, and the ctd problem something separate?

I'll try the tracing. I have no idea what it is, but presumably it'll give me something to report back here with..?

*and if so, how on Earth do you join them in Zm2? I'm tearing my hair out over that. I seem to remember it being a matter of one click in Zm1, but having said that I haven't done any modding in about 5 years so I could be talking rubbish...

Aha. So I ran the trace. Turns out I'm a cock.

Word of advice to anyone reading this who might be having similar problems: Before you do anything else, make sure your software is up-to-date and working. You might find it helps.

Morning_wood: thanks for your advice. I think I can take it from here!

Wrong gmt version I'm assuming:)

It's a fair assumption.
