View Full Version : Various technical issues - framerate and dead zone

My system is far from up to date, but a new video card is out of the question at the moment ( :( ). I run GTR2 in DX7 mode and get solid 60+ FPS anywhere and everywhere, but Race07 rather lamely does not have that option... or does it? Is there some way I can manually force DX7 mode? PLR file? Config file?
Also, for no reason whatsoever there doesn't appear to be a way to adjust the dead zone on a controller, so my Logitech analog pad using arse is stuck veering to the left like crazy. YAY FOR NOT INCLUDING BASIC OPTIONS! Is there any way to remedy this (no, I can't buy a wheel or another controller)? :(
DX9 only as far as I know...sorry mate. But I haven't looked too closely. If the option is not available through the config panel then I suspect you're out of luck. The config file won't give you anything amd everything else is encrypted as far as I know.
As for your controller issue...did you look under "advanced controller setup"?
Plenty to tweak there, including deadzone.
Hope some of this helps.

RACE 07 is DX9 only as was RACE.
Thanks for the clear-up, David.
RACE 07 is my first foray into the RACE series.
Quite enjoying it, actually.

I really don't understand the point of making something DX9 only whenever putting the choice in there is quite simple (relatively speaking, of course). I did some checking and found that a video card way better than mine is only about $100 now. I might have to spring for one in a few weeks.
I'm not seeing any sort of dead zone adjustment. Maybe I'm blind? :(

When GT Legends came out 2 years ago, it looked so much better in DX9 than in DX7 I upgraded my video card and i haven't regretted it. So if you do upgrade, then not only will RACE 07 run quicker but GTR2 will look a lot better.

Is this the demo or the full game we are talking about? The demo had a text file you could edit for deadzones. The full version does have a menu screen though.

Yeah, I'm convinced the only way to go is a new vidcard. Bleh. More money out the window.
We're talking full game here.

Strangely, I checked last night...and guess what!
No dead zone adjustment!
Maybe we're both bl;ind? LOL!

I finally got around to getting a cheapie 7900GS for my sims.
Everything looks so much better and everything runs beautifully.
I'm actually surprised at RACE 07 running at my monitor's max res on high with candy and it runs as smooth as silk.
And GTR2 and GTL look sensational!

I'm glad the new card was worth it. I'm a bit like you and reluctant to spend a lot of money keeping up with the latest thing but lower mid-range cards these days do run racing sims very well.

Go to Options - Control Settings - Advanced (button at bottom RH of screen). Deadzones are at the bottom of the list of adjustments.

edit.................... It looks like David is correct. At least something has happened (and I'm assuming it's the recently installed patch) and now those settings are on the page David mentions.IGNORE THE FOLLOWING:
Actually, my RACE07 version if you > Options > Control Settings > Advanced the code takes you to a screen that has choice options for my controller. None of these options include deadzones. The page does have a test section that actually shows your control functions in action. On that page there is another button on the lower RH, labeled: Force Feedback. But it's screen has nothing pertaining to deadzones either. And there are no further screens.
It appears that possibly for some controllers, RACE07 does not provide for deadzone adjustment. My version certainly doesn't show any for my G25. I would hazard a guess that it has something to do with the nature of the beast, the G25 being a force feedback.

Nope.

I was wondering the exact same thing about the possibility of set controllers already having things "set", so to speak, and thus no external option for dead zones.
It is odd, though.

Force feedback really should not need deadzone for the steering.
Any set of pedals could have deadzone for example, for the brakes at the very start of the pedal travel to insure that a too sensitive device never add any braking. Or for the throttle at the end, to insure that the pedal always give a floored reading.

Yeah, I'm not getting it either. I'm using the same controller for GTL, GTR2, and Race07. I get dead zone adjustment in everything but Race. Weak. :(

Very strange  I am also using the same controller (DFP) in GTL, GTR2 and RACE 07 and I get deadzone adjustment in all of them. And what's really ironic is I don't want to use this adjustment - I don't want any deadzone.
If you can find your steamaps folder, go down through it until you find your userdata folder, and you may find a controlset folder. If you've created a custom control profile you should find it here. If you haven't I suggest you create a custom control profile in the game. Its editable with Notepad/wordpad and includes deadzones.

Deadzones now are on the page David mentions. A number of us did not have those settings on that page before. But at least one of us (me) now has them.
I assume what happened was that we had checked that page before whatever copy we were using had been patched. Steam updates as you log in and has been feeding changes into the online version all along. My offline install has not had a fix applied to it until yesterday. I assume the change is from the one major update just done to the offline version. That said................
If you have two installs of RACE07, you are going to have the potential that the two differ as long as one gets updated as patches are released and Steam applies them when released.
David's advice in the above post is entirely correct. It always is, which is why I went back this morning and re-checked, knowing that I had installed the big patch last night. BTW, it is almost guaranteed with software, that if the version control is sloppy, there WILL be conflicts, just as we've seen.

Online on Steam, they still do not have deadzones in that options page.
Version control should be just that.

My Steam version is at 1.0.0.8 and has the deadzone adjustment. I've just checked my offline (non-steam) version, which is as originally released, and doesn't have the deadzone adjustment.
I just installed the offline patch and ~ you guessed it! Deadzone adjustment is now available.
