What's the difference?

There are very well specifics of the game's operation that may rely on the upgraded executable. I've seen that comments in the other thread about what didn't work in GTR2 when people used the 1.0.0.0 NoDVD on the patched 1.1.0.0 version of the game...

You should always use the 'proper fix' for the version you are running, if it's available.

It is usually a good idea to move along with fixes. However, in this case, there seems to be a problem with the new patch for offline. It's doing work that is not needed at all offline and quite a lot of it. It's opening IP Connections by the trainload.

In this case, if an earlier version works for you, and there don't seem to be any changes in the newer code that you need to run, it's certainly your choice which you use.

I'm using the earlier version of the NOCD, simply because I don't see any need to have the CPU spending time trying to communicate online while I'm racing offline. And don't see anything in the patch readme that sounds like I need it.

Just a subjective decision.

Thankx very very much W2SJW, now it works perfect. What you've said about "proper fix" is right, forget about what people say of IP Connections.., thats a fix that simbin got to do for the next path indeed, but this one needs a specific EXE (nocd).

Thanks again, i'll owe you one

It is amusing to use the phrase, "proper fix" for code that is obviously poorly tested.

One of the programming tasks for preparing the offline patch would obviously be to modify the online patch to run properly offline. Matter of fact, that was probably the majority of the work required. And it wasn't properly done. So you've got to wonder just how properly the other modification was done. And whether or not any of the fixes were properly tested.

BTW, the requests for massive numbers of IP Connections is not only going to burn CPU cycles, but for pc's with limited core, all those waiting functions are going to take up core that could be used by RACE07 to run.

This situation will serve us a somewhat valuable opportunity. How long it takes them to correct it will give us an indication of how good they are.

I agree 100% - they made us wait quite a few weeks above the online guys, and then this with the released patch?

Sounds like they were possibly rushing it a bit...

You never know if they're rushing or not. They may only have one guy working on it and he may or may not have hurried. The patch code had a fairly long exposure online so that part of the testing wasn't something they had to do. They just sat and watched.

But we know for a fact that the online to offline change wasn't tested thoroughly.

But for sure, we'll easily be able to see how fast that problem is taken care of.

I also agree but the main discussion here was the "proper NOCDPath" for the path itself.... That must be the same in order to work perfectly... THE SIMBIN GOTTA RELEASE A PATH THAT DO NOT LOOK FOR A CONECTION!!!
That is it!!!

Seems they may be about to release their next patch.

Anybody seen any word other than it'll be about the middle of January?

I have never used a NoDVD-patch?? Or is this because I have an online install? Or because it's a review kit..
This is my CD

//edit: Ah this was an update from the game..
