View Full Version : Driving fwd = big problem for me...

For some reason, with the WTCC I can only drive fast and consistent with the BMW. Like Macau, standard setups tho. I can do ~2:30's in the BMW E90, but in the fwd cars I've trouble to get under 2:40.
I did try to change the fwd setups, the only thing I changed on the BMW setup is brake balance to 52% front.

Well FWD cars, took the Alfa as an example.. brake balance to 55% to get it sidewards before a corner, instead it's going straight.. It helps a little. But in some corners, which are going downwards I've understeer like hell, where the BMW just drives cleanly... So, softer front suspension. -> Getting worse.
Harder front -> Not much better.
Lower rear wing.. Okay, helps a bit. But because of that I had to change the gear ratio's.I doiwnloaded an Alfa replay, someone who did 2:30 in the Alfa, He just drives straight away from me in each corner. And if I go faster I touch the walls.
Higher ARB rear and lower front, doesn't help. I'm not really known in shocks.. so no changes tehre yet

:(

Conclusion, I need help to master those FWD cars :(.

Okay,. suddenly drove a 2:34.466 with braking a bit different, and throttling at other moments. Still have problems, at the end of the braking line at Lisboa, I'm not braking very fast, so maybe blocking the wheels, but I don't hear that..

That;'s the upload, I hope you can give me some tips :(, cuz I feel like a newbie...

There's a rule to follow when friving FWD: "Hurry up and wait".
First of all, bracking is way different.
Use downgrading - it help.
And use it to the limit where it would be insane to apply such a force to RWD.
You will have to get rid of any beeping, toe technique, and whatever's our there. Just downgrade to the limit.
Then turn and wait until you almost hit apex. Then, you accelerate as much as you can using the FWD to counter the effect of being pushed out the corner.

Indeed, the technique is way different.

So no blipping etc.. Damn.. that'll be difficult.. I've learnt that so much with GTR2... I do always blip as I'm used to it.. Well I'll try! Thanks for help!

:p

Indeed. You'll have to revert to before you knew about those techniques.
The focus changes from "trying to brake without spinning" to "downgrade that block the wheel but still leave you with the possibility to turn".

With a G25, I usually brake to the limit and just release slightly the brake pedal. Then I downgrade like a fool. Going from 6th to 2nd gear in 2 secs!

@Johan: try more rear camber on the FWD cars, up to: -5.0 That will make the cars more stable

Thank you. In that replay I also saw it was quite nervous. Will try both options when i got the time again :).

OR, you could add more wing. Less camber, more wing, or Less wing, more camber.

The hardest FWD technique for me is getting back on the gas in the turns so the bloody fronts will turn.

I keep lapsing back into breathing the throttle when the car oversteers. And that of course makes it worse.

Don't have that problem tho. Sometimes I'm a little bit too late on the throttle, but I'm used to fwd in real life.
