View Full Version : Corrupt Files in Track Downloads

I've downloaded several GTR2 tracks recently. After I've unzipped them I get a message that there is a corrupt file(s), CRC mismatch, or some such message. And of course, when I select the track in the sim, I get CTD.
This has happened with Mosport 77, the Indy oval, Oesterreichring 79, and the 3 track Riverside, among others.
The thing is, I've not seen any messages in the track download pages indicating that others are having a similar problem.
Any ideas what's going on?

Stuff happens.
Download the track again and it will probably be OK.
Usually it gets corrupted in the download process, otherwise you would see other complaints.

I'll try that, thanks. It's just that it has happened with more tracks than not of late. I did download Mosport again this evening. Same thing... :(

I've had this happen a number of times, it was because i was downloading a lot of stuff at the same time and doing other stuff to work my pc so it made the .rars corrupt. I went back and downloaded the same files again individually without running too many other programs / downloads and they weren't corrupt.

I tried downloading Mosport for the third time - with no other downloads or browsing, nothing else - and when I extracted the files I got the same messages:
! C:\Documents and Settings\James Legault\Desktop\1977 Mosport V3.0 v3_0 by NeelJ for GTR2(2).rar: CRC failed in 1977_MoSport\1977_MOSPORT.GTR. The file is corrupt
! C:\Documents and Settings\James Legault\Desktop\1977 Mosport V3.0 v3_0 by NeelJ for GTR2(2).rar: CRC failed in 1977_MoSport\1977_MOSPORTMAP.GTR. The file is corrupt
So then I went to filecrunch and downloaded (it's not the same version, it seems) from there these messages appeared after extracting.
! C:\Documents and Settings\James Legault\Desktop\1977_MoSport.rar: CRC failed in 1977_MoSport\1977_LOD.jpg. The file is corrupt
! C:\Documents and Settings\James Legault\Desktop\1977_MoSport.rar: CRC failed in 1977_MoSport\1977_MOSPORT.GTR. The file is corrupt
This is very frustrating...

Any of your other downloads from other sites getting corrupted? If they are, it could be something like bad ram or a faulty ethernet card.

Just a wild thought but what are you using to extract the tracks?
Winrar? Is it an older version?
Perhaps you're using something that isn't compatible with the files?
Khan is probably correct - it's a defective or out of date tool you are using

Yes, some files will not unpack correctly if they were packed with a newer version than you are using to unpack.

Try 7-zip, just search it in Google.

Downloaded Mosport 77 again. Tried the latest version of WinRar, tried 7-zip. Same two files corrupt.
I did download some setup archives from NoGrip and they appear to be just fine. And, of course, I just downloaded WinRar and 7-zip and both function perfectly. But clearly the problem is on my end. I'll keep digging.
Thanks for all the suggestions, though. :)

A couple of months ago, I installed a new graphics card. I went from an nVidia 6800 GT to an ATI X1950 Pro. In the process of uninstalling the nVidia drivers, I mistakenly uninstalled the nVidia ethernet drivers as well.
When I reinstalled the ethernet drivers, I also unknowingly (the mistakes kept piling up!!!) installed something called the nVidia Network Access Manager. The NAM was the problem! Thanks nVidia...
I uninstalled NAM and now life is cake once again. :D
I have a few tracks to catch up on, gentlemen. Excuse me... :)
