WOW! This is gonna be a great looking field. VERY nice work from everyone so far. I was worried mine was a bit overdone, but seeing as tho there are other 'sponsors delights' out there, puts me at ease.

Here is a version 0.99 of the TTR entry for S5, sorry guys, no more pink bits. Maybe a few finishing touches, but basically complete.

If anyone needs a hand, or even a skin, send us a PM. But you had better get in quick while this stuff is still fresh in the noggin. Its a learning curve every season I tell ya.

I will ask again in here to make sure someone sees this.

I am led to believe there are 2 types of GT40?

I notice from the skins so far now that I am looking for differences, some sport Goodyear, others Firestones??

Are there any other differences? Do tyre makes have different characteristics? Are the cars the same speed/HP/Nm's?

Unless they are identical, we should be all in the same one right, as its a 1 car series, not 2?

Freddyfartbox

I was under the impression that there were only 2 MKI GT40's the stock and the Gulf

I've just had a look and there are a number of different tyres for the GT40.

We will need to decide which HDC file to run.

Once again another variation to make it difficult to match cars up.:-(

sunalp2
8 February 10, 04:38
There are 3 MKI HDC's:

1: 289
2: 289_Gulf
3: 289_FI

The Gulf is out, so it's between the 289 & the 289_FI.

The engine & gearbox is the same so if the physics are the same then it's just a tyre difference.

I've done all my skins with the plain 289.HDC but that is easily changed.

Freddyfartbox
8 February 10, 05:23
Bloody hell I've just realized I've forgotten everything I learned about skinning, I haven't touched PS for ages.:der:

From what Gazman said last night I believe that the GT40 with Goodyear tyres is not fuel injected (so I suspect that the fuel injected version is the 289_FI, from Franks list above).
The FI version would have to be faster, would'nt it?? (wooden tit >> that reminds me of an old joke.....)

Last night nearly everyone had gravitated to the #59 or #60 cars (which are Firestone cars), and a few guys were doing low 1:31's in them. Could we just make one of those cars the standard chassis??

Gaz, am I correct on this??

gazman
8 February 10, 06:55
yes as far as I could tell
tyre grip = 6 or 7
FIRESTONE
Indy WS104 7 dry tyre
R106 6 all weather

GOODYEAR
G7R655 6 all weather.

both brands are medium wear rate

I thought the Goodyear carburetor car felt a tiny bit easier to drive than the fuel injected models

the fuel injected models seems to barge in the front a tiny little bit more. Maybe has slightly more torque not sure.

this my preference but i have used the 59 and 60 gt40s and they use firestone. whether it is fuel injected or not i dont know, i think youll find that every one has driven them and not changed, it may be because the jones are faster than the smiths , so instead of playing with setups on the cars they are using, the smiths feel its a car thing and change to be the same as the jones. but in the end their original gt40 could be the same speed.
sorry about the confusion, but i think i explained it alright.

Yes, I noticed a little a while ago Bruza posted a time on the forum which said "50 laps of fuel and zr665 tyre" or there abouts and I was using the 106. I went and found the model gt40 that had the 665 tyre and I found it loose and was always a second off the pace.

I would prefer we all use the No.59 and 60 cars only

Just finishing my skin as we speak... some really really good looking cars so far, ive kept mine period looking, old sponsors etc... will be unveiling my weapon tonight (im talking about my GT40 guys haha)

gazman
8 February 10, 09:16
the only different version is the #52 with Goodyear tyres. 12, 14, 59, 60 are the same.

the Goodyear have 2 tyre choices but the grip 7 tyre G7R430 is a soft tyre and not a medium like the Firestone.

therefore the softer G7R430 Goodyear's turn in slightly better but will wear the tyres quicker .

you would probably have to do constant laps to find out how long they would last against each other. A tyre brand war would be ok with me.

trotty88
8 February 10, 09:20

Richard, your sister has to make a decision mate, which GT40 shall we ALL run ( including Speedo ) ?

hardjack79
8 February 10, 12:41
"What colour is it?"

I'm kidding. She actually wanted to know about about slip angles, coefficients of friction, and durability, and to be honest thats the kind of thing I'm happy to discuss with my mates after a few beers, but its just weird talking about that with my sister.

From what I've picked up from reading here, the mechanics of the cars are the same, the engines are the same, its just some run firestones and some run Goodyears? Given that no one has said "The _____s are better than the _____s" there is probably bugger all difference between them so I doubt it matters if we have both. If someone does have a preference for the Goodyears then I say we leave it open, as long as we each stick with one brand all season. If not then lets just all take the Firestones eh?

I was thinking of a combo of the US and UK flags, to celebrate the collaborative nature of the GT40 project. Nice and simple, and nice and sixties...

Oh yes, bit off topic, but not totally irrelevant, on the Pistonheads site, there is a video of a GT1 racing car made by Matech based on the recent Ford GT. Man, it sounds good...

I've been meaning to ask, when I'm driving the GT40, there is an area of windscreen in front of the steering wheel that is a different col, kind of like a letter box. One one of Krit's pics, it actually looks like it is 12" ahead of the screen, is that a deflector to keep bugs off the screen?

not sure, if i understand right.

you need this plugin for photoshop: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html

if you install it, it writes few files into your photoshop folder. so it works only for one program. if you want to use it for more than one, you have to copy the files manually.

I have seen it done in photoshop, but dont ask me how. Alternately we could all 'pose' for a few screenies on the weekend. Somewhere with a nice wide straight, or big pit area that everyone could assemble would do the trick. And yes, it may create some interest.

I'm just thinking an oval might put some off, we're doing it for novelty (aren't we?!) and it isn't typical of what the Aussie League does, is it?

If we can have a trial run, we can all take screenshots or even a short video clip, and maybe have a "pic off" comp amongst ouorselves, vote for the best, and then post that up?

I would like to thank all involved on the red white and blue flag special, it seems it took a lot of work! Can't wait to try it out!

I agree, the old McLarens, the General Lee, orange Miuras, these are a few of my favourite things.

I finally got my cars done, I really hope they work for other people because when I take a screen shot using fraps it looks nothing like they do on the screen (?!). The alpha layer (reflectivity) gets applied as a mask in the screenshots so they look pale and stupid. Anyway, here they are minus screenshots:

NuiSpeed #79 (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=25674) -- Richard
NuiSpeed #111 (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=25676) - Sean
Team Sh!tbox Racing (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=25678), which we could add to the pack and use for any late comers. It didn't look as good as I hoped it would so I'm not fussed if we leave it out. Also I think I might have breached the upload rules for this on on account of obscenity so I might have to redo it and re-upload (not gonna happen) -- Sorry Frank :-(

hardjack79
22 February 10, 19:24
New computer isn't showing the alpha layer on the cars themselves so the cars show as 100% reflective. Nothing wrong with the files, its with the computer. What is the computer doing with the alpha layer? Good question. It seems to be applying it as a transperency mask over the whole screen. WTF?

Anyway, the laptop knows who's boss so it provided me with these sublime showroom pics:

That shatbox, actually looks like someone shat on it.....was that the desired effect? lol

Makes me think you need to look at your diet Rich, or maybe change the Channel on the TV? Are you watching too much Pay TV? Especially late at nite? Reminds me of something I once( or twice....) have seen in a bowl of sorts....is that corn pieces I see??

Too far? lol

;-):-P:-D

Nice cars Rich, Sh1tbox is funny! A GT40 being a sh1tbox...:-D

Choccy brown is a strange colour for a car, loving the green one.

The shatbox really should be car #02 Bruza, maybe you should take another number. Number 2 geddit... If that joke was any lamer I'd need to shoot it. :-P

And what is written on the side rear of The Shatbox (tm)?? It looks like 'Onions wanted'?? Or 'Moms wanted'?? Both of which I find disturbing...

C'mon Rich we need to get this season started, it's gonna be fun! yip yip!!

I think you need to get out more and hang out with people that aren't obsessed with number 1's and 2's

Its not fair, Hoss stole my colour first.

I'm thinking of renaming the Sh!tbox to the Korma car and giving it to DRG for this season's Sunday morning runs.

No, come on guys. Be sensible.

Finished mine finally. Thanks to Frank for putting it together, and he even painted me a camouflaged helmet.

You won't even see me coming Rich, although there isn't much vegetation at Laguna.:burst:

I did some laps at Road Atlanta a little while ago, which is where I took that screen. Great track for any car that one, but sliding the GT40 around there is awesome.
