View Full Version : Can The Cortinas Go Faster?

Mine are only doing just over 100 (default setups) and the AI are painfully slow.
Is there a way to make the AI faster? I am using 1.01 as I didn't really want to use another install for 1.02.
Thanks

You don't have to do another install. It's just a suggestion. I play on the same install as regular GTR2 and have no problems.

Hmm, thanks jcarno. I've been reading the posts where it's almost as if everyone thinks very bad things will happen if I use my original install. Good to know that it's not all "gloom and doom." I'll put the patch in and see what happens. And hopefully, those Cortinas will go a bit faster and stop being mobile chicanes!

Just bear in mind there are Cortina GTs and Lotus Cortinas in the P&G mod. The GTs are quite a bit slower than the Lotuses.

Thanks David, I wasn't aware of that. I've been running the GTs. 103 mph top speed! And as for 1.2, it works, no problems thus far.

There is a diff between the cortina's mann's and works cars also. Slight diff but it is there.

Can anyone tell me whether it's possible to increase the power and torque values for the Lotus Cortina? (or any other cars for that matter)
I'm lucky enough to race one in the HSCC series in real life and would like to 'build' a PnG version of the car too. I've done a skin of it already, although it does need some finishing, but would like to increase the performance to a similar level as well.
Hats off to the guys who've created this mod - the handling characteristics and sounds are absolutely spot on.
A friend of mine who races online on these boards told me about the mod. It was all i needed to hear to go out and buy copies of GTR2 and GTLegends and dig out my pretty much unused DFP and immerse myself.
Would i be right in saying that the PnG mod follows period racing where as GT Legends follows modern historic racing?

Yes, the torque curve is stored in the eng files.

That's right. GTL is based on the FIA Historic Championship 2004/5. The GTL Lotus Cortina has more power (166 bhp) than the P&G version.

AH! ...we got a great insider then! :-)
I'll let this one slip (...oops...) but, for the upcoming Part-II (v2.0), apart some changes -minor or major depending on car- in sounds of v1.02 (yes, Lotus twin-cam of Cortina also blessed with minor tweaks!) I've managed to............................... get the gear-whine sound of a Lotus Cortina! :-P AHAH!
It sounds soooo different (and better IMO) that it got me confused!
Like David said already, yes, P&G follows period racing (as "in the era").

I thought the engine sound in the current version was pretty damn accurate to be honest. But yes, the almost lack of gear-whine was noticeable.
I've posted a little vid of myself at Snetterton this year (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6vq-gHAtew) on YouTube where you can clearly hear the whine of the gearbox.
Hey nice video!
Great to hear and see some footage.
Can I ask what happened to the car? You only made two corners.

There's a little cap that screws down the ball shaped selector at the end of the gearstick onto the gearbox, it must have been slowly unscrewing itself through vibrations over time and decided to come off just as i changed down to second leaving the stick lose in the rubber boot
Had it come lose at the end of qualifying it could have screwed back on in a minute and we'd have had a good race. As it was, not knowing what had happened at the time, thinking it was something more serious, i left the car and got behind the barriers. By the time the red mist had settled and i realised the car was actually probably ok and just stuck in 3rd i could have got it back to the pits for it to be looked at. But once you are out of the car the marshals are understandably not keen on letting drivers go back to their cars until the race had finished.
I am so jealous of that guy in the Mustang.

Oh you do surprise me Mogget.......;-):-P:mrgreen:
Mind you, I'm very jealous of you cracker, as the Lotus Cortina is one of my all time favourites, and is my default car in GTL. Please stick some more vids up mate, that would be quality!

Man, I know how it feels. In older Renaults (9/11/Super 5/19, I guess most if not all with Cleon series engines) the shifter linkage falls out of the gearbox socket, because of one lousy plastic part wearing out. Why the French decided to make it plastic eludes me, perhaps it was in the name of originality. Anyway, not so long ago I had to abort a stage just because it fell out again. Luckily, I have mine already suspended on a spring, so it doesn't drag on the ground and get bent to s**t (as it's just a lousy, flimsy, thin pipe, about 4cm in diameter). It's a 15 second job to get it back in but you have to get out of the car and sometimes jack it up a bit (I ran 175/50R13 tires, so it was too low). Let me tell you, it was the most annoying thing that happened to me in recent years, I'd rather the goddamn thing exploded or rolled a couple of times.
they are made of plastic so it doesn't wear or strip the thread in the gearbox. The alloy is soft.

They could also make plastic pistons, so they don't wear out the block.
My point being, why couldn't they make a 'normal' linkage? But I guess I should shut up and be glad I don't have to put up with 'door handle' shifter from Renault 4 for example.
