I've started this topic for discussing and sharing your car setups :)

Strangely no setups here yet

I will go first-here are two tarmac setups: one for the Subaru 00 and one for the Hyunday. Basicly they are softer and have bigger stearing lock, very much changed diffs and also some more changes.
Just copy the files into your RBR Saved Games folder and you should have the setups avalible.

Can anyone detail for me the naming conventions that RBR uses to save your setups? I've downloaded a few from the Swedish RBR Rank site, but I don't know how to rename them so they appear under the correct Track / Car.

Thanks!

... I've downloaded a few from the Swedish RBR Rank site, but I don't know how to rename them so they appear under the correct Track / Car.

Same here-but here is my solution for it...

change gearbox in long and then in medium-when you want to go out from setup menu it will ask you will you save it-name it with a car name and when you go in your save game folder you will know what is for what

example

0slot0_-Xsara.lsp
1slot0_-Accent.lsp
2slot0_-MG ZR.lsp
3slot0_-Lancer.lsp
4slot0_-Peugot206.lsp
5slot0_-Subaru03.lsp
6slot0_-Corolla.lsp
7slot0_-Subaru00.lsp

first number defines a Car and second is a slot

when you D/L setup from RBR Rank just rename it

Imagine,

Thanks for the help - that's the kind of info I was lookin for.

It took me over a year to learn how to properly tune cars in GPL and they only had ONE differential. I can only imagine how long it'll take to come to grips with RBR.

I'm off to play in the dirt!
Cheers!

Can you please post them, that it is possible to see in the forum, not in the game. I have it only for PS2 and can not open them on computer.

I want to change the differentials, but don't know in which direction, it are soo many parameters :P

Anyone try the KSP default setups pack? http://www.bhmotorsports.com/download/9704

They really helped me out in the game and I really improved on my times and confidence quite a bit. The only thing though, I used to use the Toyota quite a bit, but after the KSP pack I mostly used the Citroen. For some reason the Toyota still feels "off" compared to the rest, even after the KSP setup. Anyone use the Toyota and have a setup to post for it? Thanks. The Toyota was the car that I used when I first beat Burns in the rallyschool stage. :)

Thanks.

Here are car setups made by real rally driver Kristian Sohlberg and his co-driver Kaj Lindström:
http://www.mbnet.fi/apaja/kopioi.asp?tiedosto=rbsaadot.zip&direct=1

They are a part of an article in MikroBITTI magazine (only in finnish, though):
http://www.mikrobitti.fi/nettijatkot/2005/04/ralli/

Videos of their drive are under links 'Sohlbergin rallivideo', a big (iso) and a smaller (pieni) version are available.

They made also real pacenotes for a stage (Australia 2, Greenhills), here:

Enjoy

Stupid question.......

How do I install the setups?

I seem to have copied them in every signle folder that there is in RBR and they never show up in the load setup screen or whatever its called. :(

Lord_Verminaard

kinda tricky, but as Imagine posted earlier, you need to rename the setup that you downloaded according to this system:

0slotX_ -Xsara
1slotX_ -Accent
2slotX_ -MG ZR
3slotX_ -Lancer
4slotX_ -Peugot206
5slotX_ -Subaru03
6slotX_ -Corolla
7slotX_ -Subaru00

and place them in the "savedgames" folder. For example, you downloaded a set for the Corolla, say you want to call it "soft_tarmac", and you want it to be the second setup in the list (if you have your primary gravel set in the first slot or whatever) So you would rename the set: 6slot1_soft_tarmac.lsp
as "0" is the first slot, 1 the second, and 2 the third. ;) really really really freaking confusing and it sucks you can only have three setups per car but really I've found for most cars I only really need two, a gravel and a tarmac. Sometimes I have a soft gravel and a stiffer gravel, like for some of the smoother high-speed courses. I've found the default snow setups to be adequate for most of the cars.

Hope it helped.

Thanks mate, its a pain in the ass how RBR is so damn restricted.........

Lord_Verminaard
14 March 06, 00:09
Sure thing. Yeah, it really is a pain- hopefully the RBR devs will open their friggin eyes and realize how much devotion there is in the RBR fans and maybe they will release editing tools or at least a "cracked" version so people can dive into the code. Hell, just a plugin that allows more cars and tracks to be added would be nice, but I have a feeling that most of the developers have gone off to bigger and better things and forgot about RBR all together.

Anyway, have you tried KSP's default setup pack? http://www.bhmotorsports.com/download/9704

Really wonderful setup package, although it takes a lot of the tinkering out of the game. :) Replaces all of the "default" setups for all cars and all surfaces with new ones. For most cars it works pretty well, I've just tweaked a few of them to suit my driving style, the only exception being the MG, (favorite car, btw) where I started from scratch for all surfaces. ;)

Have fun-

THanks man. I just downloaded it. Need to check it out and see if its me that just plain sucks in RBR or its the setups hehe..............however I believe its not the setups that are a problem

The game does have a steep learning curve- and the final rallyschool test is a complete joke, as there is no way you can drive like that in a season all the time and expect to live through the thing. :P But I did notice the default setups were pretty crappy and most of them were way too snappy and aggressive. My times really didnt improve at all until I installed the KSP pack.

Not really but Im like 30 sec off........Isnt that huge?

I'm not a rally expert but to me 30sec in anything seems like a life time.

Or am I wrong?

well my personal best is only 4:12:81 so yours is already 10 seconds faster. Not like we get paid to make records :D...

And no I don't give a shit who has the world record as long as I enjoy the game :).

True mate, as long as you enjoy it. But I would like to know Im not the slowest guy around.

I get my high from getting closer and closer to a fast time hehe

Wow! Are you saying the stages in RBR are actually real?

Lord_Verminaard
14 March 06, 23:53
Yeah I am pretty sure they are at least based off of real rally stages. I remember someone posted real life videos of Monte Blanc rally in France, and some of the sections were pretty easily distinguishable. Dont worry about the times, if you have downloaded any of the WR replays on RBR-rank and watched them, they are completely insane. They have every twist and turn memorized to the point that they could probably do them with their eyes closed. The best I have done on Hualapai was somewhere around 4:28, but that was with the MG. :)

MudSnow, did you get to drive those roads with any "gusto" or did you have to putter down them at legal speeds? :D

Running rally is really no different than any other form of racing. Knowledge of the track is paramount to winning. Rally just happens to be my favorite.

How do you guys set up your differentials on tarmac? I just started playing a few days back and I noticed the default setup causes massive understeer because of the differential locks.

Have you read the RBR Manual, it's located in the main RBR Manuals folder?? Most of the car setup items are covered fairly well.

It's a reasonable starting point to explain what each setting does, but I agree, a nice tutorial that explains a systematic approach to setting the car up would be very helpful.
