DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 24, 2005) -- With one of the most prolific driver lineups in the 43-event history of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, SPEED Channel has announced that it will provide 14-and-a-half hours of live television coverage for the twice-around-the-clock event at Daytona International Speedway on February 5-6.

SPEED begins its coverage at 12:00 Noon on January 25 and will carry all of the action through the first seven hours of the race. After a one-hour break, the telecast resumes at 8:00 p.m., with coverage continuing until 11:00 p.m. ET. The third and final segment of the telecast hits the airwaves at 8:00 a.m., running through the race's conclusion and including the post-race victory celebrations.

Providing play-by-play commentary will be Bob Varsha and Leigh Diffey, with David Hobbs and Dorsey Schroeder handling analyst duties. In the pits will be Calvin Fish, Brian Till and Chris Neville. Derek Bell, a three-time Rolex 24 At Daytona winner and grand marshal of this year's event, will also spend time in the broadcast booth.

In addition to the live coverage, SPEED Channel will also be following several top teams for a behind-the-scenes special entitled "Champions' Quest," which is scheduled to air on February 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET. Among the drivers SPEED will follow are 2003 Champ Car champion Paul Tracy, 2002 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, NASCAR star Jimmie Johnson, 2004 Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice, and 2004 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion Kurt Busch as they compete in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Looking forward to it. GO MAZDA! GO SPEEDSOURCE! ...and their new livery.

But I wouldn't want to drive that color in the summer heat. Freakin' rotaries are hot enough as it is, and the GT is a 3-rotor version.

Anyone know what happened to Jorg Bergmeister's Porsche? He was leading GT for awhile but he's way down the order now

It might have been cooling problems. The announcers on the Speed Channel here said that many of the Porsches had cooling problems, and that they had to slow down because of it.
