View Full Version : RACING EVENT on ADD_ON SERVER, 1st february

26 January 08, 13:34
more fridaynight racing on the add-on server on 1st februari.
Time will be around 21:00 PM CET (20:00 UK), no training, qualy 30 minutes. No membership, no password.

- TAUPO (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=1314) a real shorty, you can watch your oponents across the track
- VIRGINIA (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=874) we'll take the full course! Try not to enjoy the view too much or you'll eat dirt...
I'd take Abarth or Mini on Taupo. On Virginia, everybody's guess is as good as mine (or probably better).

It is (again) part of the Gamers-crib FUN RACES. 7 laps, all usual server car-types allowed, default cars only :roflmao:.

The rules are, I hope, known (race fair or be booted, say sorry if you unintentionally push somebody off, wait if you have pushed him into the kittylitter and have a bit of patience...). Further limits are as set on the add-on server.
You'll need the trackpack in order not to get mismatches during cycling of the tracks, which may be necessary. After the races we usually just go on, so it may be handy to have the pack...

As last time: you may not be the fastest, then try to drive the cleanest!
I'll try NOT to catch fire in qualy and NOT to spin out & stuff it on the last corner ofthe race this time...

:p we had about 15 racers, and NO CRASHES. Not even first corner mayhem!

Ahhhh Yeahhh:bounce: VIR ! I might not be any good at it but it is at least it is my home track! The full course to! I think you all will find it a fun and challenging track to master. Has a good mix of fast sections combined with some fast sweepers and tight corners. (some off camber) Get em wrong and your mowing grass. Despite the long straight sections I think there is enough technical stuff to even up the field pretty good. Looking forward to some more fun racing with all of you:D I might think different after the race but at least for now I'm a happy camper.:woohoo:

There is a good mix, you have chances even in the Abarth.
As usual, I'll be in the blue lawnmower.... :D

Pizzaman
28 January 08, 08:05
They are already there Whoopster.
I hope you join in for some of the GTLegends feeling.

I may even miss it  because I have some work to do fridaynight.

Was scrolling through the tracks on the server trying to get to Taupo or VIR and when I hit Toban I got a CTD so I tried to load Toban offline and still get a CTD. I deleted my track and hat files and install the track in the add on pack and still get CTD? any suggestions????

Pizzaman
28 January 08, 13:36
Maybe it has gone crap, I dunno.
It happened to me on Toban Short...

Must be something that happened in the upload to server.
I'll try and correct it, it's still here at NoGrip.
I suppose you can just replace it by that one.

grem304
28 January 08, 13:45
Is there any way to tell the server what track you want without having to scroll through them all?

Pizzaman
28 January 08, 13:55
Yes, you send Whoopster a PM... :p
Other than that I wouldn't know. Shame really, would be a handy thing.

Usually Whoopster puts the correct tracks on, somewhere around the day before.
Then you are able to train online, possibly with some mates.

I need to correct the order of the tracks when i set the server up. Or just scroll through the tracks on the dedi window of the server itself, which just a few people have acces to.

I will probably drive the Mustang at Virginia Raceway on Friday. I had a few good races with it last night (including a win at Magny Cours GP), and beat a few PBs (I smashed my Magny Cours time into the middle of next week).

Based on Pizzaman's description of Taupo, I might try something a bit more nimble (maybe even the Abarth).

Pizzaman
29 January 08, 13:37
Hav a go at Taupo, it is a real shorty.
I hope we get heaps of players, will be mayhem.
The slower ones (that means me) may be lapped twice by the faster ones (that means you).
However, I have a laprecord standing at 42 secs with the Mini.
I wonder how I did that, usually I get around 45 secs.

Ithink the Mustang will be good a Taupo too, just practise A LOT on drifting. :D

30 January 08, 05:25
Might want to double the laps on Taupo. The Elite is ready to have some fun!

Pizzaman
30 January 08, 08:47
We can't change the numbe of laps without changing them too for the other track.
But we could do multiple races...

We know the track, it is not in the pack for the add-on server, as it might attract RAMMERS AND CRUSHERS.
You can join us fridaynights, just have the tracks. But it's clean racing.

But hey, a good heap of fun never goes amiss. Though, no such things on the add-on server.
I have seen other 'demolition derbys' however, and there are also a lot of 'rustbucket' skins around which would be great fun for the job :D
I'd say have a look, here's some good ones:
The Bluesmobile (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=2634)
Mustang from GTA San Andreas (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=4675)
Flamed Falcon (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=1218)
Rambo and Arnold Falcons (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=3215)
Satan's Abarth (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=956)
A rather rusty Mini (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=4890)
An ideal target: Police Mini (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=2760)

I might not make it on time, as we have a crapped-out car here that needs transport.
If you do a few Taupos I'll probably make Virginia...
Damn shame, as I like Taupo!

Within the Toban folder there's a folder called "Highres Textures". You might want to delete that folder and see if the track works after that, because with that folder present the game will probably find two TobanMap.gtl files (one in the main Toban folder and one in the Highres Textures folder), and it will quit. Had something similar a while ago with another track that created a folder with an optimized AIW file. I removed that folder and all was OK.

Pizzaman
1 February 08, 14:30
That might be it!
Most tracks that I had for a longer time, I updated here,
so that we got a recent version (in case anyone wanted to get a single track).

grem304
1 February 08, 14:40
I'm still getting CTD regardless of what I've tried. :( online or offline. I even tried moving the Hi-res .gtl file into the main folder then deleting the high-res folder.
Ok I can get Toban Raceway Park long to load offline. I believe this is a different conversion than on the server. All of the other Toban tracks CTD at load screen.
Can anyone get the server past Toban so I can run Taupo or VIR?

That 'different track loading screen' is probably Imola without any text? I had exactly the same thing, and was related to this extra folder that had been created.
Have you tried to use the default TobanMap.gtl file, not the highres one, while deleting the Highres sub-folder?

Do you, by any chance, have another Toban installed? I see here in the download section that there are/have been several versions/conversions, which may interfere with each other if installed next to each other.

EDIT just saw that you edited your posting and that probably you have a different (con)version installed than on the add-on server. That's your problem then...

grem304
1 February 08, 15:08
I have tried the default TobanMap.gtl and deleted the Hi-res folder also.
I've deleted and reinstalled the track from the download pack. I've also removed the other Toban track that I have and removed the .hat file for it. nothing seems to work.

redi
1 February 08, 15:15
Aha, so you had two Tobans installed? And now only the server version? If it's still not working, I'm still guessing some left-over from those previous installs is messing up things. Does it work offline?

grem304
1 February 08, 15:24
No won't work offline either. Actually I installed the other track thinking it might be the version on the server. Guess I'll just go practice offline and wait till the server is reset for the races.

redi
1 February 08, 16:18
My guess is still that there are some traces left from the other Toban versions...

I'll have a look into it and post a fix tomorrow.
Hate it when this happens.

Did two nice, clean (hmmm, I knocked Grem off, he knocked me off) races last night at Taupo. I must say I enjoyed that little track more than I thought I would.
I didn't even finish last in the Abarth 1000TC.

Then we were supposed to move on to Virginia but instead we went to Birmingham GP. We had that one last week, so I quit .... :o
Checked back in a couple of times but kept seeing Birmingham ...
Oh well, maybe Virginia is on next week.

Thanks all for a pleasant set of races !
Cheers,
Brulaap

Really enjoying this Friday night racing- long may it continue.

Funny race at Taupo. Considering it's so small, I (Butler) had a strangely solitary race, and picked up third on the line- amazing!

Then on to Birmingham. Seems to be an unpopular track, (Mogget and others were unhappy) but I like it. Anyway, had a fun race, but too many distractions at home (cat, wife, mother-in-law, etc) meant a much lower finish and a couple of offs.

Looking forward already to next weeks racing, and hopefully a few more on the grid. See you there!

2 February 08, 10:24
Birmingham GP isn't as bad as I was suggesting last night. I got used to it when the race commenced, but I still think that it is one of several tracks (not necessarily on the addon server) that could do with a higher resolution terrain mesh. It just seems a bit "polygonal" in places....

I was also disappointed that a large percentage of the drivers simply accepted that we should race at Birmingham, rather than cycling through the tracks until we reached Virginia. I was looking forward to that track, and would have preferred to race there instead.

Hopefully, Pizzaman will include Virginia in next Friday's track selection.

Pizzaman
2 February 08, 20:32
Will be, so it was indeed Birmingham?
Whoopster must have thought 'something with a lot of 'i' in it then... :D

Birmingham is not unpopular, but we already did it last week...
That was maybe why Mogget was a bit disappointed.

Next week Virginia then, finally?

Hmmm not sure what happened with me, Had fun though. Couldn't get a good rythmn going at Taupo for some reason. Made a lot of stupid mistakes. In the first race Brulaap and I had some fun tussles but I think I hindered him in his finish. He was driving a lot more consistant than I was and even though I could turn a faster lap I kept making dumb mistakes and could'nt keep consistant laps.
Birmingham was a total different kettle of fish. Even though I don't particularly like the track I seem to be able to run some consistant laps there. Qualifed the highest I had ever qualifed for a well populated online race. (5th) in the Mercedes. For some reason I showed up by myself for the race. No other cars showed on my screen although the race ran. Have no clue as to why. I ran anyway and my computer said I finished 5th. but was kind of lonely out there.
Still looking forward to VIR.

I still have to post that fix.
Probably means we all have to download the new Toban-stuff,
but no worry I'll have a chat with Uwe (Der Dumeklemmer) who seems to have found a fix.

we celbrated (or beter: we tried to) an Event on Toban long at altbierbude.de today.

All three servers crashed after ~11 laps.

So I took a look into the GDB and there's a BUG inside, could the original poster pls. contact me regarding an update?

cheers,
Uwe

I propose next week will be TOBAN (if solved) and finaly VIRGINIA FULL SIZE then!

Pizzaman

Uwe (derDumeklemmer) has fixed Toban.
We'll race the new version next friday, and we'll take Virginia as well for good measure! :D:up:

It's a common simbin/10T bug mate.
The sheit thing is that there are just 30 secs to notice that. :p The 30 secs before countdown on the grid that is.

Thing to do is. Go on the grid asap.
Listen for engine sounds, other cars that is not ur own car ;) What might help and what i always do is put the name tabs up and see if i can see people in the pitboxes. If you don't hear other engines and can't see any car around you......

1. press ESC
2. click on players names beside the monitor untill you see other cars.
3. press drive/go and see the grid filled up with cars again :D

Like i said its an common bug happens on GTR2 also

Probably the only reason I could keep consistant lap times. Kind of like a horse with blinders on:roflmao: I wouldn't mind seeing a replay myself.
