View Full Version : Help with ideas for G27 Shifter on Office Chair
I just received the G27 and I'm looking for a cheap alternative on hooking up an extension for my office chair to place the shifter there vs on my table
advance thanks
What does your office chair look like, especially the arm rests, and what are you able/prepared to modify about it? Is it possible and are you willing to drill holes in it, for example?
I'm going to upload some pics but let me pretend that I'm doing some work first =D
my job has some fast Internetz
It's a cheapo seat, and I'm no die hard sim racing...I'll probably take up Manual Driving this way....I just want that shifter out of my desktop, so I can have room for my mouse. I already have the wheel in front my desktop.
If my pecs were any bigger, I may have to use a chopstick to reach for the keyboard (end sarcasm here):-D
anyhoo, thanks for any advice

wow that looks like you wont have much to do. Just find a metal plate slightly larger then the one holding your chair arm on and put it in place clamping the shifter to it or better yet using the solid mounting holes.

all idone was unscrew the arm, fashioned a metal strip that i bolted to the underside of the arm, screwed the arm back onto the chair with the strap of metal in between the arm and seat so that it was held tight, then i bolted it to the bottom of the seat for extra strength, i then just cut a piece of wood and bolted to the top end of the metal strap, not the best ever but works just fine.
if you have a old empty case, medium size, for computer, the shifter fixed it in the bay of the PSU.
you can also store the G27 by pulling the lateral plate.
system D ^^

Damn. You have that shifter up pretty high dont you? I was thinking more along the lines of removing the arm completely and mounting it where it should be.
kind of like mine http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y136/F12Bwth4/H%20Shifter/th_IMG_2591.jpg (http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y136/F12Bwth4/H%20Shifter/?action=view¤t=IMG_2591.jpg)

Nice job on the mount. I use an office chair also and to make it a little more solid I removed the wheels and what a difference in driving. Good luck with any improvements.

It has been reliable for years now. I have a plan for a new one but I rather use that in a new cockpit which won't happen until I move.

Since I'm not home, this is my University's dorm so I don't have any tool to drill, I tied it with plastic cable ties. They do the job quite alright but with a bit of wobble. Also the black sheet is an anti-slip mat.
