View Full Version : FOV
In RBR, camera FOV is set to 75 degrees...somewhere between human eye FOV (around 90 degrees) and really focused area.
Just for fun, I changed cameras FOV to 57 degrees, to be closer from the focused area...it gives a better speed feeling, the road looks larger...the funny thing is that with this FOV setting I got better results :)
In France specials, the road looked the right width compared to car width...the incresed speed feeling helped me to avoid excessive speed.
I mean on my screen it looked more real than before (not the board or the windshield of course, but the road).
And it increases FPS.
To try it, just make a backup of the impreza03.ini file in cars/impreza03 folder, and replace it with the impreza03.ini file attached.
Have fun!
How does the degree measure relate to fov value in ini files? Ive set fov to 1.6 in impreza ini and am so used to it that cant drive other cars (too lazy to change fov for them :D ). So 1.6 would be around 90 degrees I think?
Cant imagine driving with so small fov like you juls.
It seems to be in rads
so fov in degrees= 180*(RBRfov/3.14)
Camera fov is really a personal choice it's true. I just wanted to have the road looking as wide on the screen as such a road (6 meters at least) looks in reality.

juls-strange thing happend after this mod
dont worry-i'm not blaiming you becouse i have keep backup ;)
whole screen started to blinking and all things what i saw were flickering (when i came back to originall file all was ok ) so maybe that kind of problems with Radeon cards may be connected to FOV?
can anyone test this with R 9800 pro ?
Hello
I changed two parameters in the file. FOV and near.
I set FOV to 1.0 (around 57 degrees) for all cameras.
Near is the minimal distance which has to be between the camera and an object to have the object drawn.
I reduced this parameter to 0.001 (this value is used for the bumper camera)
In fact it changes nothing, but maybe this is what causes blinking.

You know roads can be narrower than 6 meters... 4 meters is actually quite usual for narrow forest roads... imagin driving on a narrow road, suddenly you meet another car. Let's say that a car is 2 meters wide, it's actually narrower than that, then you would have troubbles meeting another car but it would be possible. Maybe that's only in Sweden but I think not... of course Finland would be a bit off with narrow roads being like 8 meters :D
Yes, I suppose in RBR sometimes it is 5 meters...because I can still turn the car 90 degrees and there is still some place for the car to move a bit.
Impreza is something like 4.30 meters I think...or more.
Anyway, maybe it is not a good to reduce the FOV like that, but for people like me who have a small screen (15') it gives a very strong effect (FOV 1.0 or 1.08). Road texture is more present....when you focus your attention to road 100 meters further it is larger.
The bad side is that it is shaking more...
I noticed that persons in my flat who didn't pay attention to the screen when I was playing before, were then watching with interest. Strange!
;)
A sim should have an adjustable FOV because it has to be changed for different displays.
I confirm RBR road width is realistic...I know many roads like that in alps...one time I crossed with another car, we were both at 60 km/h, and our left mirrors touched each other and bang! glass everywhere...I was lucky I just closed my window a few minutes ago.

I think the width of the roads is okay. When I travelled in New Zealand, mountain and gravel roads were much narrower in parts, so that 2 cars cannot pass without one leaving the road.
