Guy's, downloaded GP legends 2004, downloaded many tracks, now looking for advice how to drive this.
It's like driving on ice!!!! Can I change something in the file's??, or can you give me some setup tips.....................Thanks, Hez.
Hi Hezemans,
You have now entered the learning zone. I don't think any previous experiences can really prepare you for how difficult GPL really is !
I tried and gave up when GTR came along and now I stick to GTR2/GTL/RACE 07 which probably means I'm a wuss with no real driving skills but I found the fact that I rarely could complete a competitive lab a pain in the a..e. It's a very difficult sim from the point of view of grip, braking and traction. 400 HP on skinny tyres = OH MY GOD ! every time you try to go fast around bends.
My 2 cents.
Nigave.

The setups supplied with the demo are fairly driveable by GPL standards.
There are several GPL mods which are easier to drive, the 65 mod, the 69 mod and the 66 mod. The 65 Mod is perhaps the best to start with - half the power, and while the tyres are no gripper, they are more forgiving. But early versions of GEM (which is required for the mods) was not designed to be useable with the demo. This may have changed with the current version but if not I think you will have to wait until you get the full version.

...what David said right above. :up:
I haven't tried the '66 mod yet (didn't load up GPL for quite some time), but I did find '65 mod the best (as good if not better than the '69 mod to me).
Maybe someday we'll see GPL-mod in GTR2?? ;)
The 65 mod is definitely the easiest to drive in my opinion, and it gives you pretty much immediate satisfaction. But you will need dedicated 65 set ups. There are plenty if you do a search at RSC.
The learning curve with GPL in it's 1967 guise is a bit like Climbing Mount Everest. It's steep, long, hard, and painful, but once you get there, it's exhilarating.
It's hard to believe when you first start driving GPL, that you can do a lap let alone keep up with the AI or overtake someone.
But with perseverance, you will.
I usually recommend to start off at Monza. It's easy to learn and a nice high speed track with only one major braking zone at the Parabolica.

I'm not sure what the wink signifies but its certainly possible :)
I dont have skills to do any kinda mod....just winking for those "modding gurus" ;) ;)
...maybe some of them starts new project as "GPL-mod" :p
Theres lots of GPL tracks allready available for GTR2.
What i found impossible to believe when i first got the game, when it came out, were the minimum machine specs needed to run the game.....
Pentium 90
16MB ram
Card SVGA 640*480, 256 Colours.
.
Sure it will run the game but is it really worth the stop frame animation gameplay?
Its only been in the last few years that we have the machines that are actually capable of showing what the game can do.
And playing with a P1 100, 32MB of memory and joypad, didnt make, what was already an impossible game, any easier.
.
So i tried installing it the other month on my current gaming machine, and blow me... Its just as frustrating as it was on my old P1.
But at least i can see how the cars can be handled, its just a shame i dont have the skill to do it.

Same thing mate, check David's first reply (reply#3 on this thread), you'll discover a new game, the one you probably searched for when running GPL for this time. :)

What wheel do you use? I race GPL for a couple of years now but always avoided the 67'ers. Then I got some Forcefeedback Settings from an alien and the sim suddenly transformed, and the car was actually talking to me. Now I find GPL's FFB one of the best in any sim...
My settings: Wheel G25
Windows:
Force 80%
Spring 0%
Damping 0%
Centerspring unticked
420 degrees rotation
GPL core.ini
[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1
force_feedback_damping = 0
force_feedback_latency = 0.01
max_steering_torque = 200
With these settings you can feel the limit of the wheels very good, nice progressive built up of understeer and a light feel on the limit when four wheel drifting
Try the 66 mod as well and start in the 2 liters! Best mod ever:D

This is an older site (below) but shows impact the quality of the sim has. It would dumb-down the quality that Formula One represents to 'make' a Simulator easier than what the simulation represents. GPL is era-specific. It simulates what legendary drivers like Clark, Stewart, Cooper, etc did/endured that made them legendary. One half of all then died in a race car. Here's what Juan Montoya said about GPL: http://eaglewoman.rscsites.org/gpl/index.htm
It's not ascar; it's suppose to be rewarding. jawdrop.gif
I believe there is a correlation between the spread of GPL and Christian and Islamic fundamentalism . . . They're also very slippery customers. :dood:

It's hard to drive, but doing a four wheel drift in GPL is one of the most satisfying experiences in Sim racing.
According to GPL Replay Analyzer at http://gplra.pike.nu/ the cornering forces are up to around 1.5 Gs which is probably pretty accurate for that era car and tire. The slip angle for those tires is around 15º which is probably much more than today's tires.
Attached are some graphs from a very good driver, Steve Cloyd, at Silverstone in a 67 Brabham.
The trick to driving fast in these cars is to be very smooth.
