Does anyone know which stores (online or brick) will carry this game for PC? Amazon offers only Xbox and PS3. I have a feeling it might be a little hard to find for the PC.

For pre-order in the US, Steam seems the best/only option. And as F1 isn't big there the price isn't too bad either - $36 I think with pre-order discount.

You don't have to be connected all the time. Just put Steam in 'offline mode'. :-)

And some time later you want to start again, it asks you whether you want to start in offline or online-mode.

I would find it hard to believe gaming shops won't hold the PC version.
Best bet is to go to your nearest game shops and ask there.
It's not out for a few weeks so you have time.
Steams always there if you fall short. :)

Codies don't seem to distribute in North America - Warner Bros are distributing the console versions. Its possible with the lack of popularity of PC games in the US combined with the lack of popularity of F1 in the US combined with figures suggesting half of US PC games are sold digitially, that there might be no boxed PC version sold in the US.

That will depend, for example, many cars in GTR Evo are ludicrously hard to drive in the wet, so if the F1 car is actually more drivable, then we can say that it is more realistic in the wet.

So with all the hype about this game being a sim...is it really a hardcore sim?
I think it depends on what you look for to classify as "hardcore". I'm sure Ferrari Virtual Acedemy and iRacing's Williams will be better driving sims. Where I think F1 2010 will score is as a racing sim and as a simulation of the 2010 racing season. If you want to simulate the F1 2010 season, neither FVA nor iRacing will come anywhere close. The simulation of wet weather and variable track conditions (track rubbering in and marbles building up) is hardcore by sim standards. In what other sim do you have to drive off the drying line to cool your wet tyres? Which sims have a clean and dirty side of the grid?
Until the game is out its difficult to know exactly what the driving physics will be like but I'm expecting acceleration, braking, maximum speed and cornering speed to be realistic but if any aspect is softened it will controlability on the edge. The idea being that you can drive consistently and do full race distances and the race result will be down to your basic pace rather than how many times you go off the track. Having said that, even Anthony Davidson went off the track plenty of times on his first try of Brazil in the wet (see the Autosport review youtube). I'm also expecting damage to be toned down but this is no different to many sims.

just forget about this sim and be honest to yourselves :-)
its f1, the most boring&predictive race series in the world , do you really want to support that ?
also its online capabilities are limited to 12 drivers,,, ehhrrm , if they cant fix that , do you really believe its going to be a sim that dedicated developers create ? if i remember right in "real" there are more starters ....
i´m not gonna hate on this game , i just think we should swallow ,and wait for gtr3&rfactor2,, potential simulations, and not rely on codemaster stuff, the guys that promise rallye games and then bring a game like "DIRT"

Iracing is for online, every other game you just get punted at T1. ;-)
This is offline for me, and just look at the weather, the track rubbering in over time.
Just as you find the real series boring, this is a game and will be what you make of it.
Simple fact is this has got some amazing features that you can't find in any other 'sim' or game.
This will be awsome.
There's no need to get worried about GTR3 and Rfactor 2, they are not mutually exclusive and are targeting a different cross section.
Calling it a sim, when it's in 'sim' mode. Doesn't mean it has to compete with Rfactor and Iracing. As long as it's good, the other features of the gameplay will more than make up for it :)

The only way we would know is if we had a chance to drive a real F1 car to make a comparison. Even if one of the guys on the F1 grid said it was as accurate as possible doesn't mean a thing, as they would likely be paid for it.
I'm gonna buy this game, even if it isn't a "sim" in the purest sense of the word.

Looks like my prediction of what I hoped/expected from F1 2010 was right.
Here is a mini review from an iRacer.
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/426502-quick-impression-hardcore-simracer-iracing-forum.html
I hope no one really expected an iRacing clone from Codies for $40. If they did produce one I'm not sure who would go bust first - iRacing or Codies. iRacing grass also has a reputation for being very slippy (probably too slippy for dry grass) so comments on the grass should be read with that in mind. iRacings ffb is also arguably the best so no surprise F1 2010 doesn't quite match up there.

iracing hehehee, even harder than Simbin and I think many of Simbin cars are unrealistically hard so it sounds like they've made some good choices wrt to driveability....and we mustn't forget the penalty of being an online racer when it comes to these sims, ie, you can have your race ruined by imbeciles 24/7.
If I can get confirmation that DGFT works properly, I'll buy this immediately.

I am debating whether to get this for the PC or not. To be able to run it properly I would need to upgrade my PC which is no big deal. Thing is I would literally just be upgrading for this game and in anticipation of rFactor 2 so will it really be worth it?
I could just get it for the PS3 and still be able to use my G25........I need to wait and see what the differences are between PC and console versions and whether or not there will be any community improvements for the PC version...or if there will even need to be any!!!

Just a heads up everyone: If you have not already pre ordered a PC boxed version (before today) the only place you can now get one from is Amazon.co.uk. After the 24th of September the PC boxed version is being pulled entirely and only the digital download will remain.
So if you want a boxed DVD copy get one on pre order from Amazon before the 24th! Do not pre order from any other store as Helios on CM forum has said only pre orders made before today from other stores (GAME, Shopto etc) will be delivered.

Here is the thread with the info in it. I believe i am correct in saying you can get a boxed copy while stocks last at your local store from what Helios says in the quote below:
"Hi all, just wanted to pop in here to clarify the situation regarding the availability PC version. So here is what's happening for the various territories.
UK – If you’ve pre-ordered a box copy of F1 2010, you’ll receive a boxed, copy of the game on disc. Amazon.co.uk is still taking PC box pre-orders and will continue to do so until the day before launch. At launch, the PC edition of F1 2010 will be exclusively available via digital download.
US - The PC edition of F1 2010 is exclusively available via digital download; pre-orders are now available via Steam and other digital outlets.
All other territories - Boxed copies available for pre-orders and at launch (while stocks last), digital downloads also available."
I hope that helps

I don't think there'll be any release day boxed versions in the UK and US according to that thread. To sum it up it says if you're unable to purchase online, you can't own the game.
I walked into Game the other day, and although the PC section was smaller than it once was, all the recently released major titles were still available. I would have thought an F1 game from a well known British developer such as Codemasters would have sold well off the shelf in the UK. I'm sure a few copies to each retailer wouldn't have broken the bank.
It's also strange that this official announcement was made so late to the release date - is the boxed version available to any other e-tailers now, or is it just Amazon?

Play.com had a release date on the PC version. That's were my original pre order was placed.
They as some point over the last month, removed the release date and removed it from the 'coming soon' section.
You can type it in the search, but there's no info on it.
I thought it was odd, but they mabee desperate to try and stop the game from getting illegally available online before release.
I would hope though that good sales of this still from amazon & steam etc shows this is still a viable market and well worth releasing in the future to other retailers.
I prefer a disc copy, but pre order has gone to steam now.

Codemasters are setting a real precedent here - I can't think of a recent major PC title not being in the shops on the day of release. There aren't always many copies of the latest titles at my local shop, but they get snapped up pretty quickly, so there must still be a demand for a boxed copy.
It was quite a shock to discover that after the release date, NO boxed versions of F1 2010 will be available to UK and US consumers. If you're unable to purchase it online or cannot spare the bandwidth to own a digital copy, then you go without - for some people that's a real problem.

Steam only in the US isn't really a surprise. F1 just isn't popular there and according to one recent survey, half of PC game sales are digital anyway.
It is more suprising to see Steam only in the UK from release. Then again, initial UK sales of the PC version of Shift being less than 5% of total UK sales was also a surprise, as is the non-availability of Red Dead Redemption on PC.

I know this is a PC thread. I've ordered F1 2010 on PS3 but was disappointed to see its locked at 30fps.
Im thinking about getting the PC version. Anyone have any ideas how adjustable the display settings will be? Ive got a 2.4 QUAD system and a GeForce GTX260 card so I would hope to be able to run it above 30 with reasonably good display settings on my PC. Anyone reckon that kind of system will outperform the PS3? If the settings are adjustable I would hope to get 60fps out of it.
Also for a Driving Force GT wheel which works on PC as well as PS3 so OK there.

Compare to rfactor i think Rfactor much better because the physics and ffb is much better. Its funny because when you oversteer the car you can just hit the brake and the car it come back straight. I hope they update the physics. I played without assist but feels like the tc on. Because when you floor the first gear the car will launch without skid.. hmm...I think code needs to update the physics. Its still fun to play tho..

Cheers for the link. Looks like F1 2010 on PC is still reasonably demanding if you want a solid 50fps. At least PCs give you the versatility to change settings and resolutions so that if FPS is more important to you you can do something about it.
My belief is that the industry puts a lot of pressure on developers to produce high quality graphics in high resolutions with effects to sell games with screen shots. My personal preference is 50-60fps. Get that first and do the best you can with it.
With driving games where precision is crucial I just hate judder and framerate slowdown. Id rather run stuff with lower effects/details.
Im a bit disappointed that GT5 will NOT run constant at 60fps. Polyphony Digital made a big thing about making both Prologue and GT5 in FULL HD but at the sacrifice of total smoothness. Of course it looks great in screenshots.

The simulation of wet weather and variable track conditions (track rubbering in and marbles building up) is hardcore by sim standards. In what other sim do you have to drive off the drying line to cool your wet tyres? Which sims have a clean and dirty side of the grid?
as for variable conditions, and driving offline to cool tires, F1 challenge and GTR2. As for track rubbering in and marble build up, GTR2 stock tracks and a select few addon tracks.

This situation only affects the UK, so your theory doesn't hold water :)
Maybe, but it does appear, looking at various forums, that the PC version is pretty buggy.
Although my copy turned up today and I'm enjoying it so far. Not seen any bugs myself, but only managed a couple of hours play.

Yep, in most GTR2 addon tracks the amount of rubber increases per session. In the GTR2 stock tracks and a select few addon tracks not only does rubber increase per session, the groove has more rubber on it. As for the marble build up if you do a 3 hour enduro at a stock track go to the edge of the track at the corners and you can see the marbles. Another thing you could do(this is when I really saw the marbles altho I've been told about marbles before) is set the server to like 600 minutes or something. And make sure the server doesn't reset and let the time run down. and start driving around the 400 minute mark and look for them, if you let the session run down even more, you'll start to see it easily some corners. I was in practice session @ spa in about the 180 minute mark left of a 600 minute session and I came in too hot @ rivage and went wide and got into these marbles and the car was sliding.
Another thing you'll notice with stock tracks is that the groove will be washed away if the previous session was flooded.
I don't know about the Race07 series tho. you'll have to ask someone about that.

Same here in Australia mate.
I ordered on game.com for 75.95 + $2 postage
I sat and waited for a email confirm as I use bank deposit they dont not send account details and I am wary of using a old one as I have seem them change time to time esp. at gamewarehouse
So I waited and waited didnt take a monkey to work out by the time I got to
pay it I could grab it from their Game.com store 400 metres away from Bank.
Paid another 2 dollars 79.95AUD was in store 23rd as they said so I am confused....easily.
I think they did a pretty good job of it.
Physics seriously we all knew the answer really.
But immersion I think overall is pretty good.
Too much left over from Dirt2
Nice addition would have been waking to a 2am phone call, your agent screaming get dressed get on a plane you have a test session.
You arrive at Test and battle with other drivers ( Shift like )
and score your contract with a lifelike Sir Frank laying down the law.
8/10 for me.
Like most newer titles and using reasonably up to date hardware I find its runs better in Windows 7 then XP.

6 hours later, game has still not unlocked on steam, however over at the Steam Forums, hilarity continues to ensue: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1441618&page=29 sounds like people have stayed up all night waiting for it, and it's still not unlocked.

yea I never knew about it either until a guy told me and I went and looked for them. It's hard to see unless you run a session for over 3 hours or look for them at the end of a 3 hour enduro at some corners on stock tracks. I just asked the guy about the race07 series and he said they had the same thing but the tire model is "dumbed down" in race07 series so it doesn't really make a difference.

I'm gonna add my $0.02 to this discussion -
I just picked this up on Steam.
Not a bad game. I would say it's about as "sim" as any SimBin game, if you want it to be, but also as arcadey as Forza or the Gran Turismo series.
So far I can't find many faults, the AI do suck though, espeically considering I use a gamepad!
Example - I just did a 5 lap race at Bahrain, on Hard difficulty with Fuel usage and Tyre wear on and ABS/TC on and I qualified 12th with a 2:01.xxx and finished the race in 6th, I could've been higher but I made a few noob mistakes - I did this in a Lotus!!!!!
Not bad considering I've only had 2hrs play out of the game so far.
