Ok,
So I ran two separate races at Spa, both 9 laps on the green ring tires. I get into lap 3 and the dope crew chief calls me in for a pit stop and puts prime tires on my ride...dropping me to the back of the pack, 24th...
It's making me grr a lot and I would like to know what this is the case, especially when the rest of the cars seem not to pit.

ive never had a problem with the ai not pitting (pitting strangely, yes, lewis once ran all but a lap on options in a 20% race, and finished dead last :/), but ive only played in career. Any race over 20% you need to run prime and option tires. You can set your own pit strategy at the start of the race.

Pit Stop
Several pit stop issues have been reported;
* The AI not making a mandatory pit stop during a dry race of 20% or more
* The player being forced to wait in the pits before being released
* The player or AI cars becoming stuck in the pit lane
* The use of flashback breaking the AI pit strategies
We’re currently investigating each of these issues and recognize that these would have a significant impact on the way that the race pans out. As ever with fixing these issues it’s a case of finding out how to repeat the problem so that we can track the issues down and fix them.
It's one of the things CM mentioned they are looking into....

you know you can change your pits strategy in the garage before race, right?

I always pit two laps after being instructed to and that keeps me from getting stuck in the box while everyone else goes by. I've never had any problems that I'm aware of with the other drivers not pitting at all, but they don't always come out where I'm expecting them to.
I usually run 50% races. In lieu of there being a real race this weekend though, I thought I might try Suzuka at 100% to see how that goes.
It's kind of a shame that there doesn't seem to be any AI associated with strategy decisions. It's all just pre-set. You would think it wouldn't be that hard to have it follow a few basic rules based on current lap times, how those have changed with wear, estimated lap times with new tires, and the relative positions of other cars and pit stop times.
Run this few lines of code at the beginning of each sector, make a decision and then announce it. That would make the races more exciting too because you could get radio messages like "You need to gain three-tenths per lap if we are to overtake Kubica at the next stop"... races within the race. Things to focus on other than just the finish.
Anyways... maybe in F1 2011. Those were the sort of things I was hoping for, things that we could only get in a purpose-built F1 game.

I hope that these issues are addressed in the patch and not a new game. That would be just un-cool to me. I need some more time to get a feel for the pit stops and how to plan an effective strategy.
Maybe the crew chief is secretly working for the other teams?!?!!
