View Full Version : I have an idea for Camera +TR Control
bDAWg
27 October 10, 04:03
lets try to talk Racer_S [the guy who built Shift's "Camera and Track IR Control"] into doing one for WRC 2010....he is known to sometimes take requests
I tried last night to register on his site Toca Edit so I could ask but did not receive a confirmation e-mail... after trying today I found out I am able to log in but unable to post....and the message I sent to the forum's support was bounced back ...a failure to deliver:?:
Ill keep trying
is anyone here familiar with this Toca Edit site?
bDAWg
28 October 10, 10:12
tried again today but no luck in being able to post a request
I set off another e-mail to the forums help/support...which was bounced back like the first
maybe someone else can properly register ?...a different IP addy might make a difference..I don't know
I said I had an idea ....not I had a great idea:mrgreen:
but you gotta admit some camera bounce, the ability to change the FOV and the camera position and have TIR support would be sweet.

hey all
I've noticed that there's a Racer _S posting on the RBR forum so I sent off a PM....here's what I wrote
hello Racer_S
I've registered at your Toca Edit site but am unable to post for some reason...what I wanted to ask is this
Could you build a Camera and Track IR control for WRC 2010 like the one you made for Shift?
WRC 2010 is actually very good and offers some excellent gameplay....one of it's biggest drawbacks though is poor FFB ... that combined with a drivers P.O.V that seems to be on a gyroscope makes the cockpit perspective seem way too smooth...disconnected from what the car and track is doing
being able to introduce some adjustable camera bounce would add some realism...being able to adjust the camera position would allow us to find a camera height that feels natural....being able to look sideways as we drift through the corners would be ..well just fricking AWESOME:-)
if you were able to I would gladly donate 5 or 10 bucks and while I can only really speak for myself chances are other's would as well
if you would care to respond I've a thread on the WRC 2010 fourm entitled "I have an idea for Camera and TR control"....and of course if you're not the same Racer_S from Toca Edit please ignore this message
good day Sir
with over a hundred hits you all out there seem to be interested in this idea....but no comments....why is that?:?:

Would be great, maybe you have to wait for his respons. And yes I would donate for his work, so this great game would get better and better!! Lets wait, OK??.............Hez.

well this idea has taken off like a lead balloon ....I don't get it...I really don't get it....I propose something that I thought would broaden the driving perspective and add something that is IN MY OPINION painfully lacking and 1 person...ONE PERSON...deems this worthy enough to show some support..arrgghh!
but look at the thread started by the painters...close to 20,000 hits!!....I'm beginning to think that if I had started a thread about... oh I don't know...say weather or not it would be possible to have fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror the response would off been over whelming
this is not an ego thing....I'm not disappointed because I think gee no one must like me because no one has replied....I realize I sometimes write stuff that probably rubs people the wrong way but what the hell it livens things up........no I'm just abit bewildered as to why no one seems to want to amp up the realism a notch or 2.:?:
oh well what ever it's only a game...could've of been much much better but it's only a game.

yeah you're probably right Hez but patience is not my strongest trait:twisted:
I've had WRC 2010 for close to 2 weeks now and have played the damn thing all nite every nite...I'm talking about like untill 4 or 4:30 AM every nite....yes it has brought out the addict in me....I'm sporting a pretty good set of raccoon eyes....I'm sure the girls at the super market where I do my shopping must think I've been up all nite smoking crack or something..it's actually kind of embarrassing
at first it's easy to not focus on what's lacking but after putting so much time in it's become harder and harder not to...no doubt others out there feel the same

I have to ask you, have you tried to play rally game with Track IR and did you like it? I tried TrackIR5 in Dirt 2, but I never liked it, maybe I am too poor driver or get disoriented too easily. There just isn't enough time to look around to see the scenery and ahead to the corners same thing, there just isn't enough time to look around. In flight simulator TIR is almost mandatory to be able to see where you are flying, but not in rally or racing game, it is only gimmick to get more confused where your car is actually heading in the corner, you need to know where front is going and is your car going sideways or not. Maybe you get used to drive with Track-IR but it isn't easier than without it.

3 November 10, 01:31
hello Quenaelin
yes I have used my now very old Track IR 3 in rally and racing games and I think it's great for seeing "through" the tight turns....I don't use it for gawking at the scenery if that's what you're implying....by "seeing through" I mean I'm simply being able to have an idea of where the exit of the corner is...it's easier to know where to drive if you can actually see the road is'nt it?....and with a game like WRC 2010 that has such a low F.O.V I find the vision to be too magnified or too up close....have'nt explained that too well but I think you probably know what I mean.
but I can't really argue against you saying that it's easier not to use it ....in any type of game for that matter....it's one more thing you have to get set up properly and can sometimes be a hassle...but I find that once you get the profile set up with the proper amount of dead zone etc it's usually not that much hassle

Hey man, I've kinda lost interest with my trackir since it broke. I'd still make this if there is interest. I used to work for natural point doing odd jobs integrating support for some games like race driver 3, cmr4, some other oldies, but I haven't heard much from them since they've hired a new programmer.
I'll see if this can be done in a reasonable amount of time and update with my progress.

hello Racer_S
thanks for the reply and I think it's great that you've shown some interest in this.
not only was I hoping for some trackir support I was really keen on having the ability to re-position the camera ...damn in some of these cars in WRC 2010 my head feels like it's bumping up against the roof and in others I can hardly see over the hood....will this be possible as well?...and maybe abit of camera shake thrown in too?
am excited about this:-D
thanks again man

bDAWg, you could try sunglasses!!:-P

3 November 10, 10:21
not sure what you mean Hez.....could use a new pair of eye glasses though:-)
been thinking about what Quenaelin and me were talking about earlier...since most of the turns in WRC 2010 are not that tight that you can't see the exit I think the real advantage of having Track IR will be this.... when the vehicle is sliding sideways 90 degrees to the track it'll feel much more natural to be able to look into the direction of the slide....instead of staring straight ahead to the ditch....how cool is that!!
Quenaelin
3 November 10, 14:42
Looking partially in to a ditch doesn't bother me, I want static view of my car front, otherwise I get disoriented where my virtual game car is actually going. I don't see looking in to corner so much advantage, unless you are going to do constant 90 degree drifting which isn't usually happening when driving rally, it only happens in tight hairpin turns. No head shaking to me also, I like games without artificial head bobbing effects, atleast there should be option for turning them off. Perhaps I should try Track IR again, maybe I will get used to it, or not. I tested it only couple of times and didn't like it.
bDAWg
4 November 10, 00:59
hello Quenaelin
no I don't drift constantly but for sure on the tight hairpins and some of the wider turns depending on the surface and speed....but I get it ....you don't think this is necessary so if Racer_S is able to build this the solution is simple...don't use the damned thing....I will for sure and there's probably a few others out there that have trackir who will as well....come on man Racer S did say something to the effect that "if there's enough interest shown" he'll go ahead with this....so enough with the negative spin o.k.?
peace out:-)

Who wants to be the first to tell me if it works for them?

WRC2010 Camera Hack v1.0b
http://www.tocaedit.com/IB/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=62#
The TrackIR stuff is mainly untested, although, I think it should work? :S
May be a bit slow updating but I can fix that later.
Mouse and Keyboard controls are working at the moment. XYZ, RX, RY (5 axis)
It is only working for static cameras at the moment (BONNET, COCKPIT)
I've included my presets, although you may not like them.
Theres 10 presets per camera, so there's 30 new cams.
I decided to use some older sources for this to speed things up.
Main thing is is just to see if its working for you guys because my version may be different?
Good Luck!

4 November 10, 11:00
hey all
I've managed to be able to re-position and save a new camera view and get the free look with the mouse happening
but no trackir.....well only the X axis [left-right] and the z axis [in-out] which work rather well...but no all important Yaw and Pitch....according to TIR's profiler everything is working fine.....has anyone had better luck?
Racer_S
4 November 10, 14:49
have you tried messing with the TIR angle sensitivity slider in the settings?
its the 3rd one from the top (they should be at 1.0)
or try the attachment below (i fixed a couple things with the sensitivity)
in the meantime i'll try to get FreeTrack working
EDIT: this one has correct TIR angles working now (tested with FreeTrack)
EDIT2: added smoothing for fixing jitter with FreeTrack
the one on my site has been updated aswell

hello Racer_S
first off I want to say thanks for all of this...I realize not everyone is into tweaking and messing about with this sort of stuff....but I've always enjoyed trying to customize whatever game I think is worthy enough to waste my time on...just as much as actually playing the game.
right now there's not alot of interest in this but if we can work out the bugs no doubt the other players will take notice.
I've downloaded the latest attachments and will give it another go.

6 November 10, 01:59
hello
well I've tried out the latest version and the results are more or less the same as the first...am able to easily change and save a new camera position and have really smooth free look using the mouse but nada TIR....and where as the first ver had some action in the X and Z axis the last ver has none at all.
so no one out there is brave enough to try this?...than at least we might know if the problem is due to my set up....my O.S. is XP by the way.
but at least with the mouse free look it's given me an idea of how the TIR would work...BlackBean did'nt release this with native TIR support for a reason...the driver and co-pilot have no bodies....only the drivers arms are present...when I realized this I was beginning to think my friend from Finland was right about TIR being a waste of time...but no I think it will be o.k..I was experimenting with the R5 from the B group...I found that once I had a comfortable position behind the wheel I was able to look to my right and have good vision and not be looking at an empty co driver's seat...if you catch my drift
edit: forgot say that yes the third setting at the top was set at 1.0 when testing

Maybe double check if the SHIFT Camera Control is working? It's using the same methods...
And all the axis work with FreeTrack when using my homemade vector led thing.
I do have an old version of the TrackIR (v5.0.300) software installed, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Also its not as bad as some other games where even the passenger door could be missing.
Just nudge the camera forward a bit... or sometimes i like to place it on the the middle of the dashboard.
I seen some requests for a TIR mod on the F12010 forums, maybe I'll head over to there and see if they need some help :)
EDIT: also make sure you are actually downloading the newer version. Sometimes your browser will just keep a cached copy of the old file. and make sure you extract and overwrite ALL the included files.

Racer S
I got it working!...I read your last edit about over writing the files etc. and then realized I might of been at fault....so I copied over the last attachment into the same folder as the first ver. and made a short-cut to the new exe....that seemed to do it... it was then just a matter of coming up with the right TIR profile and tweaking down the angle and movement sensitivities in your controls...and I've opted to turn off the pitch for the time being cos' of the missing driver's leg's etc.
see I thought the last attachment was replacing the first ver. and when I tried last nite I had'nt added the contents to the first ver.....this is what you meant is'nt it?....must be cos' it's working now
at first the yaw felt kind of "floaty" but I was able to tighten it up by turning down the TIR angle sensitivity...[by the way you've misspelled "sensitivity" in the controls and the only way I knew that is because this forum has a spell check]
have a couple of questions
1.so the first 2 settings on the right ,the angle and movement sensitivities, are for the mouse?
2.I've already found out that TIR angle sensitivity has alot to do with how the yaw feels...but I tried a few different settings for the TIR movement sensitivity and did'nt notice any real change....what value do you recommend this be set at?
3.what's the reset view function for ....I've tried it and it just dumps me on the ground ...freaky
anyhoo people this works ....it takes alot of in and out of the game to set up but thankfully the game is easy to exit
good work man....and I gotta say I laughed out loud when I noticed your picture....that's too funny:laugh:...."Oh look dear let's pick up that nice young man holding a hatchet in one hand and hitch hiking with the other".....is that you holding the hatchet?

Hi Racer S
Thanks for this. Im a huge fan of head-tracking and I've been using most of your tracking mods :) (Dirt/Shift)
I just have a little problem. When I ran WRC2010CH.exe I got dx8????.dll error. I did download the *.dll but when I ran the programme/utility it just hangs :(
I've just read that you said:"Maybe double check if the SHIFT Camera Control is working?" You say I must try run WRC2010 with Shift Camara control?
Thanks for you community work:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
Off to find that damned *.BFL editor.......WRC needs some modding :mrgreen:

hello eddbru
the reference to the Shift Camera Control was when Racer_S was suggesting I check out my tracking system by running that because it's built similar to the one for WRC 2010...he was not saying you had to run that
hope this helps
