View Full Version : My cockpit

Hey all,
I know there's an ultimate cockpit thread but I figured I'd create my own to introduce myself.
After utilizing the info and photos from here and other sites I decided the ABS pipe was the easiest for an untalented bastard like myself. Low cost, sturdy, easy to work with, all the angles were fool proof and it was already black. Great.
Particle board serves as the platform pieces. There was a handful of times where trial and error came into play but for the most part I surprised myself with the outcome. It's really comfortable and good size, not too large and plenty big.
Here's the basics
ABS aka stronger PVC pipe
particle board for top, floor and seat platform (possibly adding a piece at the 45' angle foot area to mount pedals inverted)
liquid nail to glue pieces together (recommended from Roger Dogder flight sim builder)
various hardware (bolts, nuts, washers, wood screws)
Seat is a craigslist special; Driver's side Scion TC on factory sliders. Which means, fore and aft, recline, height and seat angle adjustments. Actually a pretty comfortable and adjustable seat for $50!
Logitech G25 (no mods yet)
Logitech 5.1 surround with Creative X-fi sound card and control panel
Nividia 9600GT card (about as big as I can go with a measley 305w power supply) Does a decent job
PC specs are unimportant as it is just an old Dell that I upgraded with RAM, HD, graphics card, sound card and cooling fan.
Monitor is a big hinderance right now, 19in. generic that I really want to upgrade
DIY project; old powered sony sub. Removed from case, added washers as weight to coil and mounted under seat for a cheap DIY Buttkicker. Still have crossover and gain adjustments on case which is a big plus.

It really came together nicely but there are plenty of things I'd like to add to it. Mainly bigger monitor and larger Momo with Chilicoke adapter, posibly Track IR.

Questions welcome, I used to think mine was way over the top until I saw the amount of work and money put into some of your cockpits. Makes mine look like a real toy.
I just posted another thread on the Computech page because I think I'm in need of a clean windows install and I'm not quite sure the best way with my config.

Where did you get the idea/plans? Really thinking about making a cockpit, despite my room being about 4.5m x 6m

Nice work Oregonmon! looking at one of pics with the PCV tubing, kinda looks like you don't have to leave the seat to go to bathroom :-P . once again nice work, im trying to convince my GF we need a cockpit setup. She is thinking about it. Just one thing though how about a bigger screen? i think a 32inch lcd tv would real good on stand.

That is really stylish setup, really considering that route now myself as my attempt with wood really is not working way I hoped that it would, besides I too have little problem with building stuff, even I have perfect picture in my head result I get is something else, like 30 degree off in 45 degree angle kind of issues, so those pipes surely would help a lot

Nice work, what size tubing is that? Looks like 1-1/2"?
