OK here goes,
Let me ask you guys a question from a hypothetical perspective...
Do you guys think there a POSSIBILITY...from a logistical standpoint, that the entire track Targa Florio could be a track featured in iRacing? I mean seriously...how awesome would that be? A large track like this, that is raced on every day by many iRacing members competing against one another online? Can you imagine a 30 lap race around Targa Florio in the Williams or even the Maza? That would be bonkers!
Doable or no?

I'm sure it "could" be done but I doubt it will ever be done, in life I know you should never say "never"!.
I'd love to see it done but they are so fanatical about the accuracy of the tracks they do that I think there is just too much work to do for them to make it possible.
They say the same thing about the Nurburgring.
I'd love them to create some of the "lost" tracks but as they only scan then that is a no go too.
However, once they have scanned all the current tracks, what will they do after that? It is a long way off but maybe in 5 or 10 years once there are no existing tracks to create then maybe we will get things like the Nurburgring, Targa Florio, Isle of Mann and even "lost" tracks too.
Not anytime soon though.

i have not tried Iracing but Ilse of Mann would be a good track for all sim racers.

No, that wont happen unfortunately. The track doesnt exist anymore, so there is no way to scan it, and besides it would be so over the friggin top expensive! :) I read that to scan and produce the most demanding tracks so far (like Long Beach and probably Spa) costs as much as 500.000$ US. Imagine what it would cost to do a track like the Targa properly.

Hmm, interesting. Out of curiosity, do you know for a 100% fact that TF no longer exists as a race track? If yes, then how was 6606 and his crew able to convert it to GPL and now rfactor? Surely they had to ascertain that track data from somewhere.

That is the primary difference with Iracing. Laser scanned tracks.

Targa Florio never existed as a racing track because it never was a racing track, the organizers merely used Sicily's public road network.

My wish is Le Mans but this track comes with royalties :cursing:

Le Mans? You mean Circuit De La Sarthe?

Yes "Circuit International de la Sarthe", the LM 24hrs track.
I think one day they will scan it, as it's one of the 3 most prestigious races track with Monaco and Indianapolis. Maybe with the infield Bugatti and Maison Blanche tracks like they seems to do for all tracks.
But I also think they will first concentrate on free royalties tracks. LeMans owners always get money for their track :(

Yeah, but those tracks are bazed on video and pictures, I believe.

Wiki has it staging a rally event in 2010.......

Yes there are quite a few historic "rally" events like this one;
http://www.grandstandmotorsports.co.uk/mille-miglia-historic-car-race.html
So a "version" of the courses could be scanned as they are today and be used. They wouldn't be exactly like the ones that were raced on but I'd love them to do them, one day, one day.........................
Not sure I could do a ten hour race though, on the plus side the grid could be big avoiding a "split":laugh:

Targa Florio was run on public roads. There is no race track and the event has not been run since the 70s I believe.
The 'track' was recreated for GPL and rFactor, using books, photos, and guesswork.
It was also a race from point A to point B, so a 30 lap race event isnt going to work either... :)

Targa Florio wasn't a point A to point B in the sense of modern rally stage, the 72km course for example, was a 10 lap(more or less) time trial.

I stand corrected. :)
72km lap in fact. pretty cool.

Yes, 72km a lap, quite a lot from a whole perspective. No wonder they brought Le Mans race cars, it was pretty grueling. You gotta love endurance racing though.

Seems everyone loves Nurburgring and these long retro tracks, am I the only one that groans whenever they appear?
