Hi,

At this moment i dont own a PS3. Im using a PC for my race games: GTR2, Race On / 07 / STCC and GTR evo combined with my new G27 from logitech.
So, now the difficult question, Is GT5 worth it compared to GTR2 ect.
Besides the fact that the PS3 also works as a Blue ray player and a multimedia device, its a big amount of money to spent on a race game. Simbin is working on GTR3. In January Test Drive 2 will be released for the PC. Is GT5 350+ euro worth it?

P.s. is it possible to create your own race: selecting X track with X cars with X laps on X time including pit stops?

Hi,

Ive red a topic about Gt5 and as i understand the "standard" cars have no cockpit view. So my question have allready be answered: Im not gonna buy a PS3. Thanks anyway for reading my post.

Sorry for the inconvenience of this post.

After reading the reviews of the GT5 game. I wish I never bought my PS3 system back in September of 2009 as GT5 was the main reason why I got the PS3 system in the first place.

Have you just read reviews or actually played the game?

I've played the game and if your deciding to buy a PS3 just for GT5, I'd say keep your money. GT5 is just a repackaged GT4 with abit more content, which would have been fine if they had actually improved the GT4 content. Sadly thats not the case, releasing a game with only the new cars having modelled cockpits and in every ad showing modelled cockpits is atad misleading. I would have been happy with a modelled generic cockpit for all the old cars.

Yes, its worth, i play a lot GTR2 and rFactor and you 've find the phisycs and the ffb (i have DFGT) very similar, more muted, im a pc gamer and buy the PS3 just for GT5 and it worth.

If you really like "car games" i'll be like it, i advice you, you dont have the diversity of race cars of gtr or rfactor(i dont think any game has), you have the mainstream categorys and the are just well, and yes some standart cars look bad, not awful but bad, same for the game shadows.

But, you, the car and the track, its great!!!

I have a dfgt also, what setting do you use for your wheel. I have force feedback level set to 1 and I still think it is too strong some times. Are there more advanced wheel options somewhere in menu that I just cant find.

Ok, everything is off. Some cars feel good, and some cars feedback is just stronger than others. Off road is really strong.

I posted this in another thread but I think its fitting to post it again here.

"I just sold one of my Xbox 360's and the xbox 360 steering wheel so I could come up with the money to get a used PS3 and GT5. It was well worth it. I just built a new gaming rig and use it for F1 2010, rFactor, GT Evolution. I set up the PS3 next to my gaming pc with a usb splitter and a HDMI switch. I use my Logitech MOMO to race on the ps3 and pc with just flip of a switch. The PS3 looks fantastic on my Hanns-G 28" monitor.

I am extremely happy with my new setup and my purchase of a used PS3 80gb Fat BC console. GT5 is a blast and is the only reason I bought a PS3, but the more I use the ps3 the more I fall in love. I still play the xbox360, but it now resides in the living room. "

There is a patch coming out in near future to include cockpit view for standard cars. Just not sure when.

Even so that's bloody good news, if PD do as they promise and support this game for at least a year or two then it should get to a point where it's completely amazing. I'm hoping for a save game option tho. been playing GT3 a bit recently and loving the ability to qualify and save in between championships. Shame that PD have gone backwards by not keeping those sort of options in.

been farting about a bit with my standards:)

That car was one of the kings of tire wear in GT4. I recall something like 5 or so laps with the soft tires at the Nurburgring. The Ginetta as well was really gentle on it's rubber. But the GSX-R/4 went quicker and had the DF advantage. Probably the quickest of the ultra-lightweights. The FGT doesn't count.

I agree. I bought my PS3 solely for GT5 at the time and now play FIFA 11 more on it! GT5 has been a big let down for me. Don't get me wrong, the driving experience is very good, the best you can get for road cars and that track day feeling. It really is quite unique. But there are so many annoying and frustrating issues with the game that overshadow the good points.

Like:

The whole standard/premium model issue. Much discussed so i won't go into it but some of the standard cars really are poor quality.

Lack of save games in championship and endurance events. Anyone who tells me i'm not hardcore enough if i don't want to do a 24hr race without turning off my console is having a laugh! Some of us have a life outside of gaming. So most of the endurance races are lost on me.

The lack of A-spec events and the level system that forces you to grind to unlock game content  Some gamers will never get the chance to try out the Sebestian Vettel challenge on level 30, although the seasonal events have eased this issue slightly.

The poor quality AI. They are still incredibly dumb, following the typical rail like racing line at all costs, pitting you off into walls, braking in places they don't need to and generally making the game into a race only against yourself. They just don't involve you in any kind of meaningful action on track or challenge the player.

The license tests that are there only for show and that don't actually do anything or mean anything any more.

The graphics aren't anywhere near the vivid quality of a modern PC. The shadows are poorly defined and the lack of AA & AF are felt badly.

The PS3 is slow to guide you through the menu's, a problem not helped by the games badly designed menu system. Having to go to the tuning shop just to fit a different set of tyres takes too long. And why do we have to watch the guy changing the oil and washing the car every single time with no option to skip it!

Top Gear test track is a wasted opportunity - the challenges are more annoying that satisfying and even in practice mode there is no option for standing start and the cut penalties are overly sensitive.

Dynamic weather is not on all tracks and even on the ones you can get it on you can't set custom conditions like we can in say GTR2.

No practice or qualifying sessions, just start seventh for every race.

In split screen mode you can't use the garage from another profile on the console. In other GT's you could choose from your own garage while your friend picked from his.

Tracks that were in previous titles have not been carried forward. No more Seattle or Special Stage Route 11 for example.

The option to race modify your car is available but there are only a handful of cars you can actually do it to. Same goes for changing alloy wheels - only premium cars can have a different wheel put on, standards are stuck with what they got.

Very basic replay controls diminish the value of the photo mode, if you miss the ideal moment for your snap there is no rewind function. And no, you can't fast forward either.

B-spec drivers are terrible and the mode mainly consists of picking a car that is vastly superior to the opposition then seeing if "Bob" can somehow still manage to lose the race. Amazingly he quite often does, much to the players annoyance.

Car damage is very basic and mechanical damage is limited to arcade mode races only.

You can no longer pick you own gear ratios with the fully customised gearbox, only the final drive.

Rally mode stages are extremely generic and lack any real atmosphere. Only in the final set of stages do they become anything like challenging to drive. Even then you are stuck with the map of the stage on the end of your bonnet, obstructing your view of the road ahead.

I could go on :-(

Its a real shame because the game works so well in a just pick a car you always wanted to drive and go on track kind of way.

That's the in depth analysis I was waiting to hear. Maybe in 3 years when all the patches are finished and all these problems fixed that I'd consider buying a PS3 and GT5.

And I'm not very confident PD are even going to address these problems. There track record on this issue isn't good at all. And if they do, it'll be only the surface issues.

What a pity. Seems Sony and PD care less and less about their products as time goes on.

I'm a PC sim racer (iRacing,rF, RBR etc.) bought a PS3 just for GT5 and I think it was worth it, but a key thing is I'm new to the whole Gran Turismo series so some of the stuff fans of the series are upset about (repackage/reuse) is not something I notice.

It's not a "pick a track and car and go race" sim like we're used to on the PC, but more like GTL or NFS Porsche Unleashed where you have to earn money and pass a career to buy cars.

The physics feel pretty good for me with a G27.

I've spent 6 weeks playing it and am still having fun. It doesn't replace iRacing but the Norschleife in GT5 is the best in any sim PC or console.

Can I just point out that cockpit view will probably just be a black silhouette around the outside of the screen, and a wing mirror from that model car? hard to describe, but look a gran turismo psp to see what I mean...

Still, compared to what they have atm, this would be a huge improvement

EDIT: infact, here's a mock-up of one someone has made with GT5;

I did this PS3 just for GT5 feel a little stupid. now have one game that I only play a little.
Do not realy have the spare funds to buy any new games soon.
So other than playing DVD,s or using it as a media server it just sits there now.
Game cost far more for PS3 than PC would like forth comeing Shift game & Dirt 3 but at 60 + Euros its steep.
One plus point is at least they will run out of the box with out having to upgrade PC.
Still not sure if my PS3 will last a year before I sell it.

dont buy ps3 for just the purpose of having only GT5. my opinion with what you have now you are doing alright. My PS3 died about two weeks ago now and im not missing playing GT5 at all. Im happy with my RACE ON/GTR EVO and FORZA3.

I bought GT5 in november, and i wasted my money because this is not the quality i was expected, horrible stairs shadows, loaded times too long, and so much thing that you dont care, like tiny cars, B-spec etc.... one thing very good is the steering wheel (G27) action!
Now im on Shift and its awesome with mods, on a hd5850 give a really good quality.

Dont buy a PS3 for GT5.

HS: "But if you like speed and fight look at "WIPEOUT HD" i have it and this is a really good game, really nice on a lcd 52" I bought my ps3 for this game and this give you the top quality."
