 Hello, I want to report you about my first impressions and experiences with TrackIR
Track IR is a head-tracker, it tracks the movement of a reflecting spot (26 stickers are included) and either emulates it to the mouse cursor or, in enhanced mode, supports many games, especially flight- and driving-sims and shooters (wich I don't like and play at all). Included profiles included for example RBR, GTR, GPL, F1 Challenge '99 - '02. There are lots of pre-setted profiles for games in the software (I use the brand new 4.0.020, but 3.13 works good as well). You can customize nearly everything. For the default settings were very much too sensible to me I changed them to a big deadzone and max smooth reaction. I recomend to use a cap, either the original one or to build yourself from a cap you already own and one of the included stickers. That effects a much more accurate tracking because the spot to be tracked is nearer to the IR-device and there is a much wider angle the reference-points can be set to.
I set a big deadzone because it allows me to move my head a little without effect to the screen, smoothening to max allows to give soft movements (Sorry for not being able to explain it in a more professional way  )
Most people are afraid of becoming cross-eyed when using it, because they think they have to TURN their head, but this is only half the truth :sherlock: , there is no difference between turning your head or MOVING it to the right, left, up, down. So you can allways watch the screen directly. For me it's best because anyway I bent myself when driving a sharp corner (Don't ask me why, I know that there is no G-force to be compensated :P ). When I come close to a crest, I lift my *** a bit that allows me to have a view a bit "over the hood", while drifting (especially drifting a little too much, so that you normally cannot see the road any more ;) ) you can have look to the road that makes you know the angle you have to correct.
You can look about 80° to each side, it's a case of settings how fast the reaction is and how big the deadzone should be, you can choose your preferences very well because the setting-range is very big in every axis.
My times didn't get worse, even if I was testing only, so I'm sure that this will help me make lots of seconds when I practice a little and find out what the best setting are.
To run it with RBR only add: "UseTrackIr = true" to the RBR.ini, that's all. Works with 1.02.
Seemingly RBR doesn't support the TrackIR hotkeys like GTR, so that you have to center your position in TrackIR-software before running RBR and you are not able to re-center when driving. But that is no problem in my eyes.
If you want to use the device in mouse-emulation-mode you have to use driver 3.13 because 4.0.020 is only enhanced mode. In MEM there are even more supported games, like World Racing (don't beat me for that, I know it's crappiest crap ;) )
The only tear in my eye  ... that's the price. I ordered mine at rightthing.nl and payed 140€ including the original cap, P&P. That was the best offer and still is as far as I know from an official dealer. There was one on eBay yesterday for 99€ + P&P, but still a lot of money for a toy to be only used together with few other toys (Not talking about the real cause of this device, to enable handicapped persons to use a PC).
So everyone has to decide for himself/ herself if it's worth to buy. IMO it is.
BUT, if you want to buy it now, DON'T forget to ask for your wife's permission, ... either you want it really :P ;)
Note: For I had to write this all down for a second time because I had some finger-trouble when sending the first attempt :slap: I haven't read it for correcting mistakes. So if you fin one, you may keep it :P
