Hi everybody. Good news! A new league using GTR2 will be starting here at No Grip on Saturday 8th January 2011.

The time slot is open to discussion but i was thinking maybe around 4-5pm UK time, so those who want to go out or do other things later in the evening can do so. An earlier time like this may also help to fit around the schedule of any American racers who wish to join in. Those who are interested in racing here please post your thoughts!

We will start by having some fun events for a few weeks to get regular racers back and get the forum into the public eye. As we do so i will be open to suggestions on what (if any) mod to use for the forthcoming season and what different tracks people would like to see on the calendar. Obviously i have a few ideas for both...

In the coming days i will also be posting up some basic guidelines on driving standards and what is expected of all drivers. I don't want to make things intimidating for less experienced drivers so the rules will be brief and simple.

Hope to see you on track soon

Great! Good stuff guys. Now, there is no way in heck I would ever mention another league in this thread Jayblue. But get those boys up to speed and let's get some inter-league action going! Whoohoo! :drunk:

Great! I would like to see some fast cars on track, ALMS anyone?

As for tracks, my main suggestions are:

- Road America 2008 ALMS version
- Mugello
- Le Mans (only if we race in rather fast cars)
- Interlagos 1979, otherwise the normal Interlagos
- Silverstone
- Spa

How about some sprints with reverse grids? It worked pretty well for us in Gamers Crib!

Sounds good so far, it could take a while for people to catch on that nogrip is again back on the map for GTR2 racing.

Yeah i know its been a long time since NoGrip was the place to race GTR2 and the game is pretty old now. I think if we can get a good set of guys racing here regularly again it will put us in a good place for when GTR3 is released next year though 8-)

I would suggest that for the initial few "(re) familiarization races" that they be held at tracks everyone most likely knows and has proficiency. Tracks like Silverstone, Spa, Donnington, Le Mans, Monza, etc are tracks more people know and like, and knowing that they are popular would help to increase the fun factor.

I am very new to racing, but I enjoy it much. I know the more popular tracks, but many others I do not. If this first, inaugural, event were at Spa, Silverstone, LeMans or Monza, I'd be very inclined to participate.

The league sounds like it would be a good time :)

Derek

EDIT - Might I suggest that if an addon track is necessary for a particular race even that the link to the download on nogrip be posted with the announcement/schedule to facilitate obtaining it?

Yeah i was planning on running some of the original tracks and cars for the opening weeks so we can all get on the server without issues. It also means none of us have to learn any new cars or tracks.

As regards addons tracks and cars a link will be posted in the pre race thread so we all get the correct track and there are no mismatches.

Thanks for your interest and keep an eye on the forum for details of the opening race, it would be great to see you here

Hi! Keep an eye on the forum for the pre race chat thread which will include details of the circuit to be used, eligible cars, times and server details. All you need to do is join the server on the right day at the right time and enjoy the race :-)

OK, thanks, I hope we use some prototype mods, had enough from Lobby servers and only GT and N-GT of the original GTR2 lol

I would like to recommend the map plugin by fazerbox for approved use in the League. It's a good program and allows a driver to increase his awareness of other cars in proximity to his own and others on the track. I'm not saying it should be mandatory, but I think its use should be encouraged. It's here on nogrip:

http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=26690

I like it a lot, especially when online and for learning a new track. It's a good one :)

I'm in for the race!!
but modded server??
It's gonna be a bit difficult.
I also agree with Derek, because I hate learning the tracks by remembering turns...
Map is needed for the game.
maybe you should upload some info on which mods are required.

I am definitely up for joining the league, the no grip league was the first one I ever joined and I loved it, even if I was brutally slow.

Same here..., back to the roots... :)

I think for the start it's good to stick with stock cars and tracks to make it easy for people to join.

As for the later stages... Wasn't it always the slower cars and especially brand series that gave us the closest (= most fun) racing? Sports cars are nice yeah, but I'd rather be doing 80 mph through paddock hill bend in a pack of cars than 200 mph down a straight, lapping cars because there are 10 classes for 12 drivers...

We always had good races no matter what but the races that stick out in my mind were normally single class events. I will have to think carefully about the choice of car for the league as it is probably the most important decision to make.

For now a few weeks of stock cars and tracks should work well i hope!

Question....

Keyboard racers..... allowed? (Veteran Keyboarders I mean :D)

no assists (apart from clutch) - Won't get in the way and I probably won't be the slowest either :D

It is preferable to use a wheel but if you can prove that you can keep it clean and race fair i don't see a problem with using the keyboard

loby seems empty.. only 4 games... and 2ppl in....
want to ask, is there some server for league or how to join on it to do online laps in nice company?cos i dont have time for league races but i would love to do some short funraces or just practice with other GTR2 people instead Ai

Sorry karlisss - I don't think you will find any servers that are just for that reason.

What you generally need to do is join a league like us - we race very seriously but it is just for fun ofcourse - pretty much every simmer is welcome! - all the info you need is in this section of the forum

We race 1 hour races every saturday night (uk time) with a modified carpack and different tracks.
Like I said - all the info you need is around here in the GTR2 League section.

Copy the Melbourne folder to GTR2\GameData\Locations. Should work perfectly.

Maybe you had some previous version of the track or another Melbourne track already in your installation. Try to delete them all + delete all hat files from UserData\Log folder to avoid crashes later. After you can try to install the track again.

This is why it's always recommended to start from a clean install (I have just in case on my disk one installation of GTR2 only after adding the patches, XD and my plr file for future use in leagues).

Hi EDGE

What i pick up, in not one of the 2 melbourne tracks i download there is a GRD file wich excists in all the other track files. Its only 1k big, u think it is importand ??

edgecrusher
14 October 11, 14:41
There is no GRD file in this Melbourne installation, at least I do not see one. You can try to copy from one of the default tracks - it's identical in all. You can try to post your log from the gtr2 - there should be some error shown there when the game tries to load the tracks. Add parameter to your GTR2 shourtcut to look like this 'C:\GTR2\GTR2.exe trace=1000' of course pointing to your installation folder.

Too bad you didn't stick around Eric James, it's always good to have new people joining. No matter your speed anything can happen, as only 13 people finished tonight, so by finishing you would have gotten points :)

Hope to see you next time around.
