Hi Racers,

I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct part of the forum but I give it chance!

I've been looking in to start a career in virtual racing but I have no equipment for it, and I don’t want to participate in professional racing with just my keyboard and I donīt think that sitting on my chair with a Logitech g-27 will get me the feeling that I’m looking for. So I've been looking in to what kind of simulators there is available on the market and i found one I just love and now I want your opinion and if you have any skills from them!

You can read more about it here: http://v-racing.se/content/simulators/VRS-P1.php

The thing I like is that I can have it designed to my interior at home.

If I was a millionaire I would have bought their other one, the VRS-01 awesome simulator that would be something to have at the home. Craziness but damn so cool..

Hello and welcome :)

This is the wrong forum section, but the moderators will sort that out so don't worry about it.

A cockpit is a great idea, I've only ever played one and I was impressed. I don't have the space or the money to have one where I live so I've had my G25 mounted on my desk the whole time, and I can tell you that once you are racing, especially online, you lose all awareness of your surroundings and even sitting here on my Ikea desk the immersion is still there.

I totally get the attraction of a cockpit, but for me it's not necessary, maybe one day when I have the space for one I'll make a proper sim racing rig.

Regarding this cockpit, it looks fine to me, make sure you have a good wheel though. That's the most important thing because that's the only contact you have with the virtual car. If you are getting a G27 that's a great choice.

Are you completely new to this? If so, I recommend trying out an offline sim like rfactor or GTR 2 before jumping into something like iracing, just to get the feel for the hardware and the cars when driving at speed. I don't know how iracing works, someone else will have to answer this, but if you aren't allowed assists such as Traction Control or ABS then you will really struggle if you just try to jump right in.

i would recommend first getting the wheel & pedals and then see if you like it and if you are any good at it before spending crazy amounts of cash.

having a cockpit looks very nice but has no effect whatsoever on your driving skills. i recommend you a logitech g27 and maybe get something like a Playseat so you can be sitting in the right position and have your pedals and wheel firmly attached to something. anything bigger than that is not necessary (but very cool indeed).

Playseat? Playseat is a joke, just look at it..
I rather be without then have one of thoose in my home.

But anyway how mutch do i have to pay for a playseat?

I'm thinking like, VRS-P1 insted of buying a real race car! Just because i like the virtual thing. and i want the most out of it. So don't care about the price. My question is what do u think about it as a race simulator?

Are any on here racing in the iRacing league?

i have had a playseat for the past 2 years and do not consider it a joke.

you do not need to have a cockpit to do the virtual racing thing. you only need a computer and a steering wheel with pedals. even dale jr has said he races on iracing with just a wheel clamped to his computer desk and the pedals on the carpet below.

if you wish to blow all your money thats fine, but you are trying to run before you learn to walk. suit yourself.

Sorry, didn't mean to be rude there regarding the playseat. I just donīt like the playseat, and finaly some competion has come for the playseat!

The sitting position in the playseat is also as i a regular car. I Want the low sittning position..

What's the price difference between playseat and VRS-P1?

What types of cars do you want to use? If you want to race Touringcars or GTs, I think the Playseat is more realistic than that simulator which seems to be for Formula cars.

Thatīs of course true. Iīm more in to the F1 cars so maybe thatīs why I prefer the low sitting position? But anyhow, I think it gives you a better feeling with the cockpit and with three screens that gives you the whole feeling you know like, where ever I look I’m only seeing the race track, cars and race, race, race, race.. With the play seat Iīm just in front of my computer and playing a game and I donīt want this to be game. Itīs virtual racing for god's sake? But I have booked a test of the P1 so after that I will have some real answer for you guys, I think I maybe should test a play seat as well so I can compare them to each other?

I agree with adriecoot, it seems like you are trying to run before you can walk. Get a steering wheel and pedals first before dumping a few hundred into a cockpit.

Yeah, you might be right guys.
And I don't think my girlfriend would appreciate if it popped up a cockpit one day in our home, ha ha.:mrgreen:
So, the G-27 that would be a good start?

So where do you guys race? And what kind of cars do you drive?

I do most of my driving offline in rfactor, but if I feel like racing online my go to place is racedepartment.com. They race all sorts of stuff. You should spend a lot of time getting used to simulators first, jumping straight into online racing is just crazy.

Hey, thanks for the stuff in this thread about the playseat! It is exactly what I need for my room (doghouse) - looks neat and tidy, and will fit in the corner... even comes in white! I'll be able to race my ass off! um, that is, pending successful negotiations with the Minister of Finance, however, I have been exceptionally good lately. It will sure beat the sawhorse I set my g-25 up on now

I used an evolution white playseat for a couple of months and I can tell you it really doesn't worth it for the price... The seat is not confortable, noisy springs ... Also the wheel will move up and down as the frame part that supports it is not very solid ... You should better build your own using a real race car seat... It will be cheaper and a lot more solid...

I have built my own DIY motion simulator for about 2500$ (without wheel, pc and monitor) using very expensive aluminium profiles ... Have a look at my thread on x-sim website,

http://www.x-simulator.de/forum/bleco-s-2dof-scn5-racing-simulator-t2625.html

If you are looking for real immersion and have the budget, this is what you need ...

Initial build was made using a pleaseat, look at pages 1-2-3 to see evolution ...

$50 of 25mm square metal, a mate and his MIG and I have my cockpit! Easier to control using the wheel and pedals on it.

Great work Guys.

A great alternative material to use for building a race Sim is fiberglass. Fiberglass is available in ALL the same shapes as steel or aluminum. Tubes both round and square, extrusions and sheet in nearly any size are available. There are many advantages in using fiberglass. Simple cut and glue construction. No need for a welder or welding skills. Easier to work with than steels or alloys. Lighter and stronger. A 50mm tube with a 1.4 wall thickness will not dent if you hit it with your biggest hammer, A steel tube will dent. Fiberglass bonds together VERY well. It is easy to sand or grind.
Fiberglass tube is inexpensive and the fiberglass diy kits needed to stick it all together is available at most hardware stores. Another easy way to make a Sim is to use MDF (Medium-density fibreboard) and apply fiberglass to it. The end result can be as beautiful as an F!.

You CAN do it.
If you get stuck, We are here to help.

If anyone needs help or info, feel free to PM me.

This is my fiberglass tube and profile supplier. http://www.exelcomposites.com/English/Products/tabid/7585/language/en-US/Default.aspx
My resin and fiber supplier. http://fgicomposites.com/
These company's are in Australia, but I'm sure there are some in your country too.
As always google and youtube are good places to find out the basics of fiberglassing.
