If any one can offer some advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried reinstalling directx?

legendsatlunch
11 February 11, 06:53
yep lol, even fresh install of rf, with onnline verification. All that was fine. was able to set the screen res etc in config, started rf and no go.....

dxd9c_26.ddll, through to 36 i think went missing. but that was on the lap top. the sim is fime and gtr2 still ran on the laptop with win 7 trying to tell me dxd9c dlls where missing! think I might go back to xp or windows 3 lol

Did you try running rFactor in windowed mode? That often allows you to see the windows message saying what crashed and why, if any.

11 February 11, 08:22
I cant comment for online simming

I dont use windows updates and turn off all security feature, any mstools
humanly possible. All my apps/software are manual update and nothing is tasked. UAC and guest disabled.

Fallacy latest DX update covers everything when you reinstall some software
thats does not ask about DX it Can at times overwrite another dx9c dll and some certain later games just wont recognize the older one. Its a fact. ;)

So just running latest DX does not always work it can depend on what you run and in what order you install it.

@ Redi thanks just that per your suggestion.... still just get the rf logo up and gone....
@DurgeDriven (http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/member.php?u=215800) Yeah very true. I have to the best of my limited knowledge shut of all the 7 self control. even reinstalled graphics drivers and hence dx files. I didnt actually realise win update was still active, thought I shut that down on install. I do get confused with 7 though.... i'm still and xp user at heart lol.......

Yes updates will turn it self back on when you do updates, download live,
install office are examples.

What is use of paying for software to manually configure only to have it disregard it when it feels like it.

edit:
Some reason I must now keep IE for msn live to load so I on the verge of canning that too.
Media Player again I found something cant remember what exactly that will not work without MP installed.

Never used to install either netframe was only thing I left.

hmmm its set as an allowed program and I cant find what bit is stopping it but looks like its bye bye comodo..... not gonna have anything left soon!

Less tools the better. ;)

Helps to have a smallish C drive backed up and restored with image software.

If you restore a 100% working image and a game on a partition does not then work you can reasonably assume its nothing to do with the OS.

If I back up a image because of software/game additions, hardware driver changes I will name them #1 #2 #3 etc.

Till I am satisfied and get to check everything in #2 image works I will not delete #1 and so forth.

Are you sure you have a legal version of rF? ;)

I can't get rFactor to run an another HDD other than C drive with Win 7, bit annoying when I have about 10 rF installs on another drive.

brabham67
11 February 11, 17:52
This is all baffling to me. I have never had an issue running rF in W7. And all of my installs are on a second drive. In fact I haven't done a reinstall of rF since I was on XP. Really odd that it giving you guys fits. I wish I had some other knowledge to impart, but I don't. So all I can say is good luck.

I use Microsoft security essentials for anti virus and zone alarm for a firewall..
Had no problem with any programs. Best of luck Legends.

Exactly, I even use the same archived documents folder in both OS
and they all work fresh OS, image or otherwise.

Clear all caches and local/temp.

I would try a fresh lite download and boot as demo see if that loads.

Make sure the absolute path for the other installs are not to long.
You don't want them to be under a non ownership file directory either.

did u try running rfactor in trace mode???
open your shortcut and add the parameter
rFactor\rFactor.exe trace=5
it will create a log file in rFactor\UserData\LOG\trace.txt
I use it all the time for debugging

I tried the same thing and it didn't work for me. My old rF installs which I've had since XP on the E drive would'nt run, so I installed a fresh rFactor on E drive, still wouldn't run. I installed it on C drive and it worked fine, so I copied the exe to an old install and the new install on E but they still won't run from there. It's not exactly convenient having GB's worth of games on C drive if you have to reinstall Windows.

Did you both just get an update?

I have Win 7 64-bit, and all sims are on my E drive. rFactor is working fine, too. I don't use updates though.

RE updates, I think so, I had it turned off on both pc's, but must have done something to re enable them!.... so they are OFF again now... I have also reinstalled comodo and all is still ok!.
Hope you have success Freddy! all I can suggest is just keep trying every thing!! lol

I got XP-SP2 retail was brilliant never ever did a update, downloaded the new installer from MS and ran manual netframes, etc.

It ran same sim folders just as good as W7-64Bit no updates ....or is that the other way around. :?: hehehe

People are getting smarter one time on sites you could get in trouble suggesting such things.

I dont keep any docs, pics, music or any media on C and most def. not on the desktop.

I have a habit of finding out what apps I have will run without a reinstall
so the folders are permanent on D drive.
That cuts down on add/remove, some registry and C drive space so smaller images.

You be surprised how much will run off other drives the same as sims.
Then if fresh C drive is needed most of your apps are already there
instead of 10/20 installs.

Why not update Windows? I have windows update to ask me what to install. Never had any problems in W7. Same on XP always kept the OS up to date, no issues. So I'm wondering why. Just asking...

If you run a W7 with all bells and whistles and all its apps by all means. ;)

Personally I think W7 is the most hacked OS ever if I have used it since beta then retail without updates or AV or firewall blockers I should be a BSOD mess, but I not.

Have you been through the updates and read descriptions.
Most are security based then you u have outlook and mp and media centre, IE
netframe gadget bit defender, live, xlive, office, yadda yadda

I dont use any of that or any W7 features as I showed you in pic so why would I download updates for them. :?:

It simple for someone to say something like ... my sims run better with updates. ( dont say you have not heard that before now ) hehehe
I mean how easy ? Like it couldnt have anything to do with drivers settings and tweaks done in the same timeline could it. rof ;)

brabham67
13 February 11, 07:08
I was just wondering. I'm usually that lucky sumabitch were everything runs right the first time! LOL!

I usually only do critical updates to the OS. I see a lot of the stuff that comes down the Windows Update pipe as useless, though. Sort of like a really annoying salesman that, once he has his foot in the door, is going to sell you as much crap as possible.

DurgeDriven
13 February 11, 07:20
Ah at least you do manual, WD ;)

I do validation, the hotfix and first bitdefender ( so I can turn it off)
thats it.

Like I said if you disable all windows features W7 in all it's brilliance will
still install updates for the lot. lol :-P

I just feel that a stable OS on my gaming rig is perfect. No need to take a chance. And I don't do any web surfing or run any AV on it.

I mentioned this only because my boss had to deal with 2 64-bit machines that crashed on the same day this thread was posted. Both had received updates over night.
