View Full Version : SHIFT 2 FFB Discussion
Thanks for the Juls~
[For me:
I prefer FFB like High setting in GTR2 with DFGT or G25
And default FFB of SHIFT 2 is quite weird for me, but still I can see the different of FFB between FWD, RWD and AWD~]
For Logitech DFGT (May be for all wheels, need someone test for me)
The best method I have got~
1.Download Juls' little steering fix
Here is a very minimal mod which makes tyres less floaty, without being intrusive. AI seems to cope very well with it, and I have good driving sensations with it. It does not change grip levels or anything important, just make the tyres react quicker to steering movements.
Extract the two .bff files from this archive, and place them in Pakfiles folder in your shift install. Backup your two original files before.

2. In logitech profiler, use default wheel settings, uncheck "allow game to change settings".
Shift 2 uses friction and damper it is intended by the devs, it has to be enabled in the profiler if you want at least to feel what FFB is supposed to be.
It seems some fanatec users can't disable separetely friction/damper and therefore they have the full FFB as it was meant to be, while most logitech users miss some effects as they have disabled friction/damper in profiler.

3.*optional* You can set the Force feedback effect level in "ControllerDefaults", change the line
<_cForceSettings Level="Full" Gain="1.000000">
to
<_cForceSettings Level="XXXX" Gain="1.000000">
There are few level, seem same as GTR2
Full , High , Medium , Low
Full is default for all controller profile, and I've only tested "high", which remove some vibration.....(Same as GTR2)

4. Set the in-game Controller option as you like, but Juls said 360 for in-game steering lock is the best, and I agree with that~
5. Try it~
It is excellent for me, now SHIFT2 is better than FM3 but still not enough to beat GT5 or better PC Sim Racing~
I dont know where the FFB is. I cant feel the weight shift, I cant feel it when the tyres starting to lose grip. I only feel it when its to late...
And drifting is completely impossible, at least with a wheel.
Using a G25. Don't have a huge issue with lag, but the FFB seems really weird. Haven't tried turning on damping, etc, but tried it with 900 degrees and 540 and it does feel a little backwards, i.e. strength gets lighter as you turn the wheel more. Even if I wasn't pushing it so the back stayed put, it seemed off.
Oh, and 100% FFB (in-game) 115% (profiler) was unplayable for me. When I braked the wheel would shake like crazy. Lowered the FFB in-game to around 90 fixed it.

Yeah, in drifting there is literally no FFB, only heavy "meaty" feeling.
I really liked the FFB in the GTR the first race you do when it was light and responsive. And then you choose your settings and the same car on the same track, suddenly the FFB just went really heavy and stiff. Do you know what i'm talking about here? Is there a bug here maybe? It is suppossed to feel like that first one?
That first time you actually drive the game, it felt perfect IMO. But it is car depndent as the Alfa felt fine but alot are just too dam heavy
Also, the curbs i find way too strong and canned

FFB in overall is good enough, but have to find the correct settings
Speed sensitivy 0, Steering s 100, FFB 50%
Very important to prepare well your car suspension, Caster, camber, toe
If you done your job well, then you'll feel the FFB good enough, close the same as in GTR

I find the FF too weak, I have mine at 100% and the steering feels too loose.

I tried to get rid of the over damped feel of the steering by zeroing out part of the values in the vehicleset config.
These are for 270° (optional 540°) rotation. If you use anything other, change the proper line at the bottom in the config.
First you'll need to open with notepad the file vehicleset_pc_custom_wheel.xml located in Need for Speed SHIFT\ControllerDefaults\PC. It would be a good idea to make a back up of the original file, though.
The section describing the FFB behavior is right below the line </InputsList>. This are my current settings:

Copypaste to replace and save the file.
On Shift2, make sure to load the custom wheel profile and make the axis assignments necessary, set the FFB force slider to your desired level and save the changes with the right shift key.

Really? I actually felt the light FFB was harder to drive with, the wheel had little weight. When it 'switches' to the harder FFB it's a lot better in my opinion. But it does seem like a bug when the FFB would switch between light and heavy feel.
I played the first game for about a week because I couldn't get the feel/control right. I've been messing around all day with Shift 2 and this is what feels good to me. I love the cars :)
I use G25.

that is very close to what i'm using on my Red Momo..
not the best.. but it's drivable now.. i'll test with a few more tweaks..
as i'm into the GT3 series now.. but the cars are easy to drive..
AI's can be nasty at times.. but once your in the lead..they give up.
Drift in this game with a wheel is completely IMPOSSIBLE!
i've got a G25: in normal races the wheel is quite perfect...but in drift races, literally incontrollable O.o
What is the point in editing the xml files when they just reset next time you start the game? And if you make them read only they don't work ?

It can remove the vibration effect from the ffb and it is just an optional stuff, if you like vibration effect is included in FFB, don't mess with these XML, it's ok~
Since the default for these XML are read only, so make they should work with read only ~:-)

You mean that if you edit the vibration values it actually works ? So why doesn't the "Centre" value make no effect whatsoever ?

Hey guys, is there any permanent patch for that "loose" FFB at the beginning of the race? It doesn't happen often but it's annoying to have to get into the menu and out of the menu to get the proper strong FFB back. With this light FFB it feels like you are driving on ice. Thanks.
and what about the drifting`s

Sorry to res an old thread - but I figure it's all relevant and perhaps best kept together. There was no newer discussion on FFB settings that I could find via search (for this game).
With the G27 I was using profiler and setting the degrees I wanted and so on (otherwise it defaults you to really narrow).
I've thought the steering was heavy - like there was dough in the steering, and the car doesn't naturally countersteer - so I'm wrenching the steering back quickly because the countersteering force feels "late".
Anyway - I closed profiler by accident, then opened NFS2 and it had kept the degrees of rotation - however everything else was different.
The steering is light and fast, and countersteer is really positive, the steering goes light as grip fails..
Anyone else want to try it? Open your profiler as usual, then close it- then open NFS2
(note: I'm using the community mod + career mod )

To me it sounds coincidental. As long as the profiler icon is in the system tray it still should be active or did you close the profiler out completely (no profiler icon in the system tray)?
Anyway I got the light and faster steering feeling (+ the other benefits you mentioned) after I put the career mod on top of the community mod. Then after making some changes in my SU2 logitech profile and tweaking the car setups this game feels totally wicked awesome (at least most cars do).
Many thanks go to the makers of the Community and Career mod!

It's how I do it every time now. I close out the profiler completely. It leaves the 900 degrees of lock on the wheel and presumably defaults everything else.
It's completely replicate-able - and NFS2 FFB goes "sticky" again if I leave profile running. Using different settings in the profiler always seems just heavy, dull and the countersteering arrives late and it makes it a slog.
I'm just going with it because I like it -
If I had to guess I'd say that closing the profiler either defaults values - or NFS2 overwrites the values with and does it's thing. Either way - it feels pointless to me to fight with it since it's doing it's thing nicely (for me).
I do need to start profiler once on boot up to get the lock set up before I close it completely though.
Try it if you aren't happy tweaking the values to what you are looking for is all I'm saying. Which is the place I was at. I didn't find settings in the profiler that make it feel like this does.
If you like how you have it - that's the main thing ;)
I would guess our G27's feel about the same meaning the lighter steering and all (it sure does feel good, makes SU2 better than ever).
