I have got my g27 setup and working well in races (elite mode) but the drifting mechanic is completely different to how i would drift a car irl. I can't for the life of me work out how to get the car to not spin out.
Does anyone have any tips of even configurations for the g27?

I can't get it to work with my DFGT either. After about 60 seconds I get this:

Yep that is what mine does, just spins out straight away.

Try a different car. I'm sure they need to be setup differently to how they would be setup for races.
I'm far from an expert by my guesses on how to improve drifting:
Tweak the sway bars for more understeer.
Increase tyre pressure. Perhaps more so in the front than the rear.
Lower ride height.
Less downforce. Also adjust for understeer/oversteer as necessary for the higher speed drifts.
Stick to street tyres. Slicks may be too unforgiving for drifting.
Someone who knows a thing or two about drifting could give better advice. I may be wrong.

Well, the game gives you a car what supposedly is set up for drifting. It does not work at all. I'm quite sure you can fiddle around with settings to get it right or at least much, much better, but just the idea that they failed to properly set up a car in their own game for drifting is disturbing.
Try turning the speed sensitive steering(drift mode) down to zero worked for me.

i turned my throttle sensitivity all the way down.. it was better.. but still fricken impossible. i think i'll just skip all the drifting cuz its just awful!

Same here. Speed sensitivity is zero. I can easily drift in Rfactor and LFS but it is hopeless in SHIFT 2.
Stop playing it with steering wheel and use gamepad instead. The car will counter steer automatically even in Elite Mode.
This is very challenging... (I'm joking) but If I want to do some real powersliding action I'll go to LFS.
very tough even tho i can sort of do most of the corners.. no way can i beat the set drift score for 3rd place even on the easy level.. for e.g. 4th drift race i think has a target of 1.4k.. best could do is 1.2k and that was with a lot of luck.. im using DFP + 200deg rotation for drift.. sensitivity etc all low.. and main tip is to try and turn the wheel like you would be clicking with keyboard/game pad basically 0-100deg like pushes in milliseconds not progressive steering if you get me?

@ccsracer:
'... After about 60 seconds I get this...'
If this happens I think you were driving to hard and you kill your tires ...
look these (ugly) sparkles coming from the wheels, ... driving on rims!!

take a look in a replay, if it happens to you again

Can't judge by this picture if it is a drift or any other type of competition, but I'm dealing with a weird one here:
The first car+track combo that delivers the absurd was one of the early hot lap challenges - the dockyard track (most probably tokio, but I'm not sure) paired with vintage gt-r. I'm witnessing deadly consistency with this one so there's no chance to finish the challenge, as it has to be done with the car you're provided with. As far as I know, you can't tune it either. The scenaro is always the same - negotiating few turns (not ultra fast and not sideways at all), after that comes the BOOM sound and I can see sparks coming from underneath. I've never been lucky enough to finish the first lap with the rear tires on the car.
I also had this on donington, driving unmodified Focus RS and with one other setup, don't remember the particular pair though.

Hi guys,
I have exactly the same problem with the drift mode, it gets frustrating really, really quickly. If only lightly press the throttle, the car immediately spins out.
Plus the ffb seems to be inversed in the drift mode, because my wheel shakes from on side to another (I remember that from rFactor, when you had to flick the "inverse FFB" button for some mods).
It has to be a bug, there is no way that anybody would relase that as playable, especially since Shift 1 wasn´t that bad.
And I have installed the minimod, and I do pause and rejoin the race. Nothing helps, drifting is simply impossible. Although I still have to try an awd car. Maybe it is a little better then. But still, this needs fixing. Quickly.

Reply to WaxxFetish: I think I know which race you mean. It was at night as well, wasn´t it? I have had no problems with it. No Bang and no mechanical failure. I am not sure what the problem might be. Are you on a pc as well?
I have the EXACT same problem with a Fanatec GT3 RS and CST pedals. These pedals have huge amounts of resolution but no matter how CAREFUL I am with both the wheel and pedals I can not hold a drift for the life of me! And this is on the first drift course where they supply you with the S13. This game is crazy! Took me 2 hours of tweaking just to be able to drive decently in the first race with the GT-R.

I could kinda drift the thing by constantly lifting and pressing the throttle.
But before I could get enough points my rear tyres burst
I think this one is bugged, leave it out until a patch.
Referring to the very first drift training event...
I didn't even know the tires could burst....

Ditto that, MaddmattH.
It is really hard, but I refuse to lower the difficulty to Medium, nor will I turn damage off. Just when I get the hang of it and string a couple of 100pt slides together my tyres explode!!! It seems you would need a LOT of practice and patience to get the drift scores on Hard, which is quite out of balance with the race difficulty. So tedious, made even more so if you have to stop for a minute between laps to let your tyres cool down (if this even prevents them from bursting).
On a side note, I notice that none of my Autolog friends have even set a score with drift.
Just started to drift in this game, did the drift lessons, and the game told me I have unlocked a training course for drifting. But how do I get to it? I cant find it in the menus!
Help very appreciated
EDIT Nevermind, found it
As far as problems with drifting go, after a bit of practice I found a few things that make it a lot easier. These are: wheelbase, power and torque and that Nissan just doesn't have any of those. So I bought an E36 M3, swapped the engine to a V10, installed all the upgrades (apart from the flywheel and I only took the 2nd level tires), so it has 818HP and 831Nm torque. And after some testing Im happy to report that it's quite good: I just put it in 3rd and control the throttle and steering - the power and torque are all over the rev range so I don't need to shift constantly like in the Nissan. I can just concentrate on driving.
Power solves everything ;)

If you have Juls' physics mod installed, it is nearly impossible to drift. Uninstall it if you want to drift.I found drifting difficult but doable in elite mode with a wheel, just like in real life. I saw a real drift racer post(he says so) in EA forums and he says it as a bit easier than real life, but very realistic.
My only complain is ffb gets nearly 2 times stronger in drift mode, (changes with the car but it is always stronger) which is disturbing.

The problem with drift mode is that the car doesn't auto counter steer. Whenever I go drifting with my car, I release the steering wheel and it auto counters. Even though my car doesn't have power steering, it's easier to steer than in SHIFT 2.
Hey !! can u tell me where u found out the drifting training course in Shift 2 !! Im not able to find it ....

you have to finish the first 3 (?) dirft practice session in career mode. then in quick race -> drift, the track is listed as nevada -...
