"Quick post to say that we've removed the lag internally (well, down to hardware limits) and we're have a blast in testing with the wheels here. Some 'late in the day' asynchronous changes with a view to optimization put things out of kilter a touch. The changes mean that the input is now processed very early on in the frame and filtered through to the physics as quickly as possible.
Big thanks to gtplanet forums and members for the feedback. We do read as much as we can."

Now I can't guarantee it is Ian himself, but seems legit and I'm sure Jordan over there would confirm. Hopefully that means patch is on the way :)
Good news. But why is he posting over there and not here? ;)

He posts news on Shift first at a GT forum? :?:
Anyway it's great news, can't wait for the patch. Hope this game gets much better support from them than Shift 1 did...

Dunno why there first, but here's another one:
"IanBell New Member Online Now!
The default tunes are all very soft, intentionally so as we need all cars to be able to handle all tracks. This makes them sub-optimal on the flatter/less bumpy tracks. Given the almost infinite variations available for the cars defaulting a setup per car, per track, per upgrade level wasn't possible.
A few tweaks in the setup menu can make all the difference."

Ian Bell posting just in gtplanet?
I have my doubts. Has he posted in the official Shift 2 Forum at EA too?

understandable... SMS don't have 5-6 years to develop their game... let's hope they will include more setups (race, hotlap... per track) during the next patches...

If this is true, this would explain why some people have it and others don't (i.e. things like physics processing, graphics level, core processors, etc could impact the processing of the stack). Interpreting what is there seems to elude that they moved the input processing ahead of 'the stack' to give it higher priority so it wouldn't be as impacted. However, that just means it will move the impact to something else (i.e. physics, sound, graphics, etc). You don't typically get something for nothing.

Not necessarily. Changing the order of processing could make the total processing time shorter because it can become better optimized. We'll have to wait and see.

I wonder if it's a hoax?

Not in the real world.... ;) I've been a programmer for 15+ years (moved into architect/management role a while ago though). While I haven't programmed games, the constructs are the same.

Only time will tell :)
I do read most of the forums but find it best to respond in those, how shall I put it, well moderated ones http://cache.gtpla.net/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
The occasional punter takes the opportunity to have a go at us when we pop our heads above the parapet. Nothing wrong with that if it's at a sensible level of course but we aren't immune to a enjoying a bit of credit also. The appreciation thread and the 'little things' threads here were nice to read http://cache.gtpla.net/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
Wasn't the 'little things' thread here? :)

Yeah man! They're snooping us!
Hey Ian: Send help! AA S.O.S !!!
Sorry Redi :)
We appreciate the little things thread at NoGripRacing ;)

Well it's good to see you guys are looking around here
I just hope what you read here has an influence on what we'll see in updates ;-)

It's not clear (since the thread itself talks of console lag) whether he's talking about all versions, just the consoles or just the PC?
I think some of the PC lag reported is performance related.
I can play shift 2 and the hand moves so well synchronised with mine that I was surprised at one point that nothing happened on screen when I wiggled my thumb :)
There's obviously not much difference on the PS3 performance wise - so if one lags they probably all do, and teamvvv's video was pretty clear at showing the input lag there, I thought.
Perhaps why, this time (thankfully) instead of the huge cross forum bun fight about whether there is lag or not and who has broken hardware, folk have reported it and they are going to fix it.

Ian Bell used to be very, very active in the forums back when GTR was a mod for EA's F1 titles.
But I would take every claim he makes with a grain of salt. He tends to be a bit over enthusiastic... ;-)

I see what you did there :-D
But now that the issue is known it will finally be fixed. Hmm, I wonder what the bug list is...

Bollocks.
Bollocks.
Can anyone provide a bug list?

PG Tips = overrated
Here's the real deal: http://www.tapaltea.com/tapal_danedar.html
Ok, now back to topic.
So I've had my motion blur set to low in options, because I like a little bit, but not too much. But then it dawned on me, abit late you might say...
Is it motion blur amount, or motion blur quality, that I'm setting here?
When I max it, I can see a slight different, but maybe it's just my imagination?

I agree, he doesn't specify. I would expect the processing routines to be the same across the platforms, which could be part of the problem (i.e. different hardware needing different optimizations). If that's the case, anything they do for the PS3 could help some PC users (if the focus is on the PS3 since that seems to be the biggest problem child at the moment).
I don't have issues and have been quite pleased with the controller setup. I do realize that's not everyone's experience but that almost points to hardware problems rather than "the game is broken" like most people seem to complain about. I do think what people are experiencing today is more related to their own hardware/software configuration rather than the game directly. However, that doesn't mean those differences couldn't be accounted for in the game. ;)
It looks like they are fixing a few things. (http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=5168822#post5168822) Its good to read that the FFB/Lag, etc issues will be addressed ;-)

Do you believe Ian Bell would write something like this?
Among a lot of ancillary issues, we've fixed the freeze that some punters were experiencing. There's a lot more besides but I'd be stealing EA marketing thunder

punter
London slang for costumer
Also a customer in a shop/establishment.
