Often when I try to take a photo, the game freezes up. I can alt+tab out and in to the game to unfreeze it, but the photo just shows up as a blank in my photo gallery.
Anyone else have this problem? How to avoid it, because print screen doesn't work for me either. Don't wanna use FRAPS.
I have the same problem here. Turns out that the game doesn't like NVidia inspector AA settings that some recommended here. I turned the profile off and the Photo are working again, but it would defeat the purpose for me :(

LOL yeah, it would defeat the purpose. I have ATI card and have done the same catalyst thing here. Oh well, guess I'd better get FRAPS.

Be aware that the Steam screenshot feature also passes the keystroke on to the game you're playing. "F12" by default.
I was playing Civilization V, hit F12, Steam took the screenshot, then passed F12 on to CivV, which merrily loaded the last quick save.
As you can probably guess, my last quick save was *ages* ago and I lost a lot. Arrgh.
Just something to be careful about. Not sure if you can redefine which key Steam uses.

Alright,I have to burst your bubble-FRAPS isn't helping. The thing is,you can take picture with it,but it's very, very poor quality.I spent ages to make custom livery for R8,and then I wanted to show it at nfscars, but all details are looking like I used smudge, and then sharp tool in photoshop.Did anyone founded way to open those .med files without using autolog?
Use .png when using fraps, indeed, when using any image capture software. The quality will not be an issue from thereon in. The only thing I'd say is be warned if you're low on discspace, .png is a large filetype. Keep that folder organised if you are tight.
Steams functionality is brilliant, it saves as jpeg, but the quality is very good.

As you can see there are hardly any artifacts in steam's jpeg captures, and for most people steam does a perfect job. I tend to save as png just because I'm picky, and on the off chance that I wanna photoshop something. But most people would probably think the difference is negligible
hint; look at the panel gap between the front and rear door, and flick between the png and jpeg. Might be more noticeable in a different screenshot, but damn VALVe, you've done a great job, as always!

I have the same 'problem' altough I am using X-fire to capture shots for me at the moment...
X-fire saves everything in PNG and it seems to do a proper job :)
On top of that it is free :D
