Well if all of you are looking so forward to it, maybe you'd even enjoy it more online. Yort and I still get together every Friday night my time, Saturday afternoon his. You folks fall somewhere in between us.

I am GMT-7 and Yort is GMT+10. And we've been having a blast while testing stage 2 of the WRC Mod and just plain racing.....

Any of you ladies up to the challenge of some online mayhem.....:D

And hey, if I can race GTL one day, GTR2 the next, and then RT, and still kick Yort's butt, then you folks can too....:roflmao:

And if you were to let me know, I'd gladly set you up on my TeamSpeak server....

ok, next attempt: it's a CG (Chappe et Gessalin) 1200 S technical based on SIMCA...

Roger
15 November 06, 15:34
MR - I would say you are just about right

I don't fully understand the difference between the CG & Simca.

I have found pics of the Simca and it looks very like Troy's car (badly named pics or very similar car?)

Matra-Rancho
15 November 06, 17:34
Hello,

as far as I know the CG-company makes fiberglass car-bodies for Deutsch-Bonnet and Alpine. After that they make their own car on the same way like DB, Matra and Alpine does. The "original" Simca 1200 has a steel-body designed by Bertone. By the way a really good looking car...

regards MR

YorT
16 November 06, 09:09
Yes Roger and Matra, your both right.

Its a 1971 CG which uses Simca 1200 engine/transmission.
Similar lines to Alpine as the A108 has origins from the CG design crew, where its rear engined and drives the back wheels.

Roger
16 November 06, 10:20
Well I wasn't right ;) - MR was.

I was even wrong on the engine location :D

This track is well on the way to being completed. It is a fast forest stage.Yesterday I planted just under 4000 trees!
I have only been working on this since 1 Sept. My new Safari stage took over a year to make!
I have designed the track so that it is not too hard to make futher tracks using the various junctions/components to create different routes.

Hi all, I'm still a total newbie when it comes to 3D modelling and don't find much time for it, but am working on a V6 for the Metro 6R4 car. I've found some great photos and drawings online but it's a challenge figuring out how something's shaped and proportioned when you've only got images from certain angles. Here's images of the real V6 and what I've done so far (barely started!)... The mirroring now is just for a mockup to give an idea how it could look. Any thoughts guys?
Cheers, acid andy :-)

26 July 08, 09:36
I had the same problem when I built the engine for the Abarth 695, but I got over that by rescaling it until it fitted the engine bay. Looks the right shape. I would build all of the attachable components separately and only quad select the whole thing at the end. Quite a challenge you have got. I know I got a lot of saitsfaction out of making all of the pulleys, belts, spark plugs and leads etc. Good luck:thumbup:

kiplali
29 July 08, 14:32
The Mercedes is part of a project which we hope will include at least a dozen or more new cars and hopefully some new tracks. I think we are calling this mod RT2 if all goes well. Not sure when this will all come about as it is quite a long process. So far we have have made the following cars:-

Hillman Imp
Volvo PV544
Lotus Cortina Mk2
Alfa Guila
Peugeot 404 (remodelled and re skinned)
Saab 96 (bullnose - remodelled and reskined in Monte trim)
Mini (Re skinned)
MGB ( " )
Lotus Cortina Mk1
Mercedes 220SE
Mercedes 230SL (re modelled and reskinned)
The following may also be included subject to time:
Fiat Abarth 124
Citroen DS19
Sunbeam Tiger
Alfa Romeo Julia

Anyone that wants to help in this project is more than welcome.

Thanks Andre1956, I still enjoy RT and it suits my modest modelling efforts.

You never know, even the smallest things like finding actual engine and gear ratios of these classic rally cars can help. Also locating blueprints and photographs of the particular rally car can save the modeller time in trawling the internet instead of getting on building the thing. I was messing around on the internet the other week and came across colour pictures of the Leige winning Mrecedes 230SL. I had only ever seen black and white photos and incorrectly quessed the colour. Included in those pictures was an interior shot so now I will be able to rebuild the interior exactly as it was.

Cheers Roger....99% of it is Richards work, Ive just added some more people, the cameras and am now making the collison model. Not sure why Richard never completed it but I thought it was too good to be abandoned. It takes about 7 mins to drive. When completed I will make stages 3 and 4. Stage 5 is already done and is in the downloads. A couple of years ago I started stage 6 and made about 50% of that so I will dust that off and finish it. I think I have just talked myself into another RT project!

Some of my projects progress info:

Kenya: 70% done, needs some fine tuning with road textures.

Rally Estonia: 50% done, textures are more-less ok, but track time-weather needs work.

New Nürburgring: 20% done, probably this will be released after Rally Estonia, because many textures are the same here (grass, trees etc.)

I will add updates and pics to the projects own topics during the next week.

Resumed working on the GT/E - had a too long break because of some probs with Zmodeler, but now (fingers crossed) it seems to work fine.

As usual, my workflow is somewhat chaotic - I still have some modelling to do, but I do some UV mapping and make some textures at the same time...

GTE looks very impressive, keep up the good work.

Last year I had problems with ZModler and had to finish the models using my old W98 PC. Somehow Zmodler became infected with a virus. I must admit I have never tried it again on my current PC.

Thanks Kip!

Got the engine compartment about sorted out, and suspension/transmission too. Body needs still some parts and additions to the texture, interior (not shown) also needs some modelling before I can even think about physics.

I may have gone a bit over board with all the parts , but what the heck - let's give RT something to chew on , maybe with today's computers it won't choke...

An update on various tracks that I have been working on over the last year:-

(1)Safari Stage 3 is 99% complete....just needs pace notes( I'm too lazy to make them!)
(2) Safari Stage 4 as above
(3) New Wales 3 100% complete. This is basically Richards original Wales 1 but with all of the unrealistic jumps ironed out. I deleted the last third and made a new end to it. I am currently waiting some feed back from a tester on this one.
(4) I am currently working on a new track on which will compliment my Grizdale track. I have made just over 3 minures worth and intend to add approx.another 2 minutes. A few screenshots of the new track.

Kip, feel free to use some of my textures (trees, road etc.) if needed, i think it would add some eyecandy to the excellence of the track. :)

How can you make the original tracks narrower and maybe even mirror or reverse them?

Making the road narrower only visually doesn't help much, just adds some unrealistic aspects to the feeling of the game (grip is the same on grass and tarmac etc.).

Also any ideas how to make the original trees bigger? The ones currently in use are quite small compared to some trees in real life.
And is it possible to make rally Sweden like this - having one stage like this - weather that is +2 and muddy/snowy and the 2nd stage -5 and snow?

Stage 1 like this: PIC (http://www.eurogamer.net/view_screenshot.php?filter=PS3&image=assets/articles//a/1/2/0/2/2/7/6/20100709_wrc_track_010.jpg.jpg)
Stage 2 like this: PIC2 (http://www.simracingworld.com/screenshots/295-wrc-2010/view/#12052)

Note also the bigger trees on both pics, thats what i'd like to do.

Narrower, mirrored and reversed tracks can be done in 3ds Max only.

Larger trees would require new trees to be made and planted on the track......3ds Max

Tracks as you mentioned can be done in 3ds Max. You can have 4 road textures/materials per stage. So gravel/ice one stage 1, followed by snow in stage 2 is possible. Just requires the textures all in one country.

Temperatures could be adjusted in the stage text file by altering the level of grip for the differnt road materials.

Hope this helps.

Still working in the GT/E 8-).

Real life tends to get in the way all too much, and Zmodeler's tendency to randomly reassign materials to some faces slows things down too...

Anyway, interiors are almost done, safety belts, handbrake & legs needed for interior_lo. And to adjust the seats & belts positions right.
