Im buying new ram cpu board soon but I am having problems with my current ram, whenever I exit a game I sometimes get an error saying that I ran out of memory and windows turns aero off, before I exited the game it was stuttering a little.

Mikal: I have a very, very similar system (even less RAM!) but I'm running WinXP 32-bit. I don't get these crashes.

Have you considered running GameBooster or some other similar utility to shutdown unnecessary background apps while gaming? It will restore them (cleanly) when you exit the game.

CPU: Phenom 955BE (stock clock)
MOBO: Asus M4A79XTD EVO
RAM: Kingston 1333 2x1GB DDR3 (<--50% less than you)
GPU: XFX 5770
PSU: XFX 650W
CASE: Antec 200
OS: WinXP SP3 32-bit (<--this is the obvious difference)

On a specific game or all games ? How much ram have you got free on the desktop. How much stuff do you leave running when your playing games at the same time ? What's your pagefile set at ? To be honest you got enough Ram and Video memory and should not get an error like this. I know for some apps and games aero will turn off on the basis of not being compatiable with the specific app. Is your local hard drive low on space ?

I usually force aero off when im playing games via RP, but doesnt work well via steam.

Which is where all my games are, its not specific or on all games, its random it can be any game, either spellforce (2003) or more recent games, the only thing I have running is steam and my CCC, however I do have wmp running when I play spellforce, but that shouldnt eat my ram, my hdd has at least 100gb free on each partition (500gb split into 2x250 C & D)

@dubz Ill try booster if I get this error more frequently.

Check what your virtual memory is set at also, might be worth moving your pagefile to a different partition (or drive if you can get one), one that has a bit more space free if possible.

I have a small 1GB pagefile on my C partition (main system partition) and on a completely separate drive I have the main pagefile which is set to "system managed", my PC seems to run a bit quicker this way. ;)

Oh and you'd be surprised what WMP can eat up. It's an M$ program. For example I had WMC recording TV, i.e. using my HDD, whilst I was trying to race online in a race in GTL - it caused major lag!

So I wouldn't rule out WMP as being the cause of at least the stuttering.

can try to run the gfx only with the drivers , no catalist control center. it helped me at least. my pc broke allmost every hour once when it was running.

I agree with Edubz 101%, I have neighbours know nothing about memory and running W7 - 2GB and any sim, they never crash ? ....but then again I do their OSes. :-P

Old days with slow processor swapfiles and such helped but you dont need to set anything in W7 it should run spot on.

Disabling system restore, bitdefender, windows tools and some of the W7 fluff and bubble will do more for RAM.

I dont need to know what CPU, how much ram he runs to give answer.
Symptoms and fixes are universal.

edit:

I disagree on another point, there is absolutely no difference to ram performance in XP SP2 or SP3. I tested extensively....nadda.

I challenge anyone to show me any bench with a improvement it is user perpetuated nonsense Oh wow man SP3 is so fast and smooth ! yeah in your dreams....

In FACT SP3 uses more processes ! lol
It has netframe for a start. which I would not put on my sim tower if you paid me. ( its the first thing I delete in W7 add/remove )

If I really need netframe I dont use it on my sim hardrive which has nothing needs it. ;)

I have many different ideas mate to most people.

More likely to get called out as a Troll if I keep going.

People cant handle someone having a different view, like there is only one way to run a OS.
Thats arogant. lol

Most of what people quote is repeated and plagiarised site to site, year after year.

edit:

I always have said no one way is right. lol

I run sims on stripped down drive with as little as possible to be a tad faster (and because they are the most important files to me besides family pics. ) I dont want to jamb the OS up so it implodes.

Arcade and shooters I dont mind using SP3 or W7 SP1 or any tools, software needed, does not bother me..........as long as it is done on a seperate OS.
