15 February 05, 18:17
This will be our third points scoring race of RT rally season 2.
We will have a short hotlapping event based on teams(read about the Season2 announcement to know more).

Stage: Snowy swiss4 by Floreznzo-get it here (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=43) and here (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=44) are the texture updates
Car list: Toyota Celica V1.1 by YorT -get it here (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=699)

Rules:
We will use the usual RULES.
TT Realmod2005 is mandatory-get it here (http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=671)
The competition starts on 15.2.2005 at 19:20 CET
The competition will stop on 20.2.2005 at 22:00 CET
You can check the time here (http://www.worldtimezone.com/).

Installation procedure(IMPORTANT!!!):
1: TT Realmod 2005
2: The car(no extra tires.ini needed for it as it is up to spec allready as it comes :) )
3: The track

And what is with the team now you ask?
Well all members must attend as this time we cant do substitutions for missing teamates as we all will be driving the same car. So please as many members as possible should attend. And the scoring bonus sistem is without meaning now-we have one class only so no bonus points.

Good luck and have fun :wave:
AND DONT FORGET TO USE SNOW TIRES

Whats the point in asking people what car they want, if you are then only going to choose the the car you want.

Nearly everyone said the Fiat 500

So we drive PG's selection instead :down:

Ok-I am obliged to explain my choice.

First If you go look to the stage selection thread again you will see that car votes that were confirmed(Imagine was being his usual self-sarcastic) we get:
3 direct F500 votes (rallyfan, midi and BlaBla)
3 direct Celica votes (Hakker, Volvo142S, LethalOatmeal)
2 direct Ascona votes(Ralph and myself)

Please check the thread again-it really turnes out 3-3-2.
So F500 and Celica were on a tiebreak and as YorT's cars have not yet been raced I have decided to use it. I have said that it looks like F500, but than LethalOatmeal voted for the Celica so we had a tiebreak.

Please guys dont be mad at me sellecting the Celica on the tiebreak-I promise we will race them all. There are so many great cars that havent been raced yet and as we have traditionally sellected cars from the legends of RT carcreation I felt like we have been neglecting the "newcomers" and that it was time to show them our gratitude with racing their cars. I promise that we will drive the F500 in the near future.
But if you guys feel that I have been incorect in my sellections of cars and stages... please say so and sack me from my race organisator post :P

BTW: My personaly preffered choice for this race would be the Ascona and Sweden stage2. :cool:

lt's no big deal and l don't want to make an issue of.

But Ralph and lmagine both said Fiat 500, Ralph said he would prefer the Ascona on a fast stage. :confused:

But lets just leave it at that.

Well, it was expected to race the little Fiat here, but after a few runs I don't think, the Celica is a bad choice. The physics of the updated version is really superb and I enjoy it very much, even I hate those damned tunnel in this stage. But that's not the car's fault. So here we go with a first fast bench to beat! ;)

I am a bit confused about all the complains about not getting the power on the road. Have you really mounted SNOWTIRES on your car? By default the game chooses graveltires according to the original stage. No wonder, if you spin with those socks. But perhaps the name of our forum is program: NoGrip! :D

Maybe, keyboard isn't a real blast for RWD's on slippy surfaces (apart from this the snowtires don't have much less grip than a gravel-tire on medium or soft gravel). Haven't tested, but the cars with realistic behavior perhaps are more difficult to handle like the a bit arcadish ones of the default game. Sorry to say, but we set our priorities on realism when making the realmod and didn't care for other steering-device than a wheel. I assume, this also is one of the reasons, why BB didn't use the full potential in physics for this game and concentrated more on playability under all circumstances than realistic behavior. Sorry, guys - but it seemingly can't be done right for everybody.

Just to check, do we install the 'snow switz physics.rtp' as well as the 'snow switz basic.rtp'?

I have to say that after a quick go its very hard to control, as soon as the car starts to slide, it instantly spins, but I didn't install the physics file that came with the track, so maybe thats why?

Downloading the texture update also, got some very funny looking tunnels and scenery.

How can I turn the headlights on also, its very dark in the tunnels...?

Yes you have to install the snow swits physics.rtp as well. This will give the surface the right behaviour and I think that you will get much better handling(I assume that you tested with snow tires and they dont work well on gravel-which is the normal surface and you have not overwriten)

The lights will get turned on automaticly with the update. And I deffinitly recomend the textures update as it looks really great :wave:

Man, what have you been smokin'? :D you bet your *ss that a certain physics file has some effect at your spins ;)

And the headlight thing...I was wondering that aswell, until I found out that I smashed my headlights already in the first two tunnels :wave:

Hakker, I hate smoking! :eek: :P

But I have installed the physics file, and its fine now, the car feels really good. I originally didn't install it because I thought it would interfere with TT-RealMod!

I downloaded the texture update, but I still get strange looking scenery, most of it matches the the evening tone, but some of it appears as if its day time! (see attachment)

In the tunnel, the tunnel texture is light, but the track is pitch black! (see attachment)

Some bits of the track are also completely black towards to end, to the extent I couldn't see where to go!

Please tell me and Hakker how to turn the headlights on, they appear on, on the car, but when driving nothing is lit up! :smash:

Thank you,

........

Thank you,

Very strange! I've to agree to Hakker - it seems to be a problem of your grafic-card. I don't see any reason in the related files, that it shouldn't work propperly. To make shure, that the reason isn't a messed up instsallation perhaps install the trackfiles one again - first the basic files, then the physic-file and at last the additional textures. Best would be, to restore the original track_5 file from your cd before applying the new trackfiles from Florenzo. If you are not familiar with the restore-function of the bfz-manager you can also copy the RallyTrophy/Data/tracks/track5 file from the cd in the related folder of your RT-install and overwrite the current file. But be aware with this method, to remove the writeprotection of the copied file before patching it with Florenzo's files!
Otherwise try to change your grafic-settings, perhaps annother resolution or colordepth. Had a similar problem with annother game some time ago and changing the mentioned things above cured the problem.
For the question about physics: yes- even we mentioned in the TT-realmod readme not to apply any other physics-files, in this case you can do without thinking about. The files in Florenzo's track are not a new physics in general, they only point to the related surfacetypes and make the game recognize the surface as snow and not gravel anymore. The physics itself keeps untouched. Be shure, that we wouldn't have choosen this track, if it knowingly would mess up any part of the TT-mod.

Ralph.B

Hope, you have installed the physics-file as well, guys! Otherwise you will still run on gravel-physics and that's invalid! As mentioned in my post above, this time it MUST be installed too, even the readme in the TT-realmod tells you something else! The file of Florenzo doesn't mess up the TT-physics and is compatible.

Have completely to agree - but it's not the car/track combination, it's simply the stage! :mad: It sucks and those f...ing unvisible edges in some tunnels, that throw you out of track without knowing exactly what you have hit, are nerv-killing. I really hated this track without end once we drove it last year with the Porsche, and I still hate it most of all ever raced tracks exept the old Wales-stage with those damned trees growing out of the road, no matter if it is on gravel or snow. Don't think, I will do much attempts to improve my current laptime. Really want to avoid expoding of anger ripping off my cars roof for the 100th time with an idiotic rock out of the tunnelwall, that you don't see while driving. :down: Can't stay this anymore!

Take a look at Pero's time, now that's what you can call fast :trophy:

And i'm sure that you can be a lot more faster, because you have usually beaten my times so far (for example on the Finland stage3, when we raced evenly matched cars)
So just go on and drive :wave:

I don't think its over heating, never had problems with that before, its only a very low spec card, GeForce 4 MX440, and I've set the clock speeds about 3/4 of what they can be, and even tried with them really low, still no difference.

I just tried installing the track and texture updates again, still no joy. Maybe its a setting with my graphics card? Failing that its something wrong with the game settings? Also the car's darkness doesn't match the light settings, its still as bright as it would be in day light! Also the head lights are on yet I get no beams when driving, dispite having installed the texture updates, so something is wrong...

This is really annoying me, if anybody has any ideas or suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. I just want to race, with normal surroundings, and being able to see where I'm going on the dark sections!

Thanks,

HEHE-GPL got the best of you Imagine.

Well-dont trust it too much. It is not as realistic as people belive it to be.

To get an objective view on everything stop comparing sims to other sims. Take a real car and try things out and than check sims. You will see that all sims are different than the real thing and that every sims does one thing good, but sucks on many others. It just depends on which property you want to have a bigger impact on the game.

Thank You Thank You :bowdown: Imagine
your compliment has great meaning

I have installed all three of the Snow Switz files and the car does feel like its on ice (its sure feels like I have the right physics). I couldn't even make the first corner in the first tunnel the first three times I tried. So I tried the throttle tapping technique to do the track at extreme drift angles (I don't anymore). But I have had lots of practice with this type of driving in real life, I used to drive up to ski hills 5 times or more a week with non-studded tires, and often on unplowed roads. Really though I think GPL really helped me (I don't have to use full throttle to be fast)

Imagine
18 February 05, 16:01
I can't anymore... :dood:

I allready see :chair: :slap: :argue: on me

I know that nothing is perect but I just lost the will to deal with things what bugs me here.I will allways find something what i don't like everywere-I even don't like physics of my Renault 19. :banghead: So becouse of that maybe i should play only that things what bugs me less and i can cope with...

First i thought that I just hate this stage/car combo but after a long thinking my conclusion was that it wasent it.I tried to set up my wheel with input.ini on so many ways but i just didn't get what i want. Most frustrating part was that FF becouse no matter how much i mess with wingman profiler it is allways just rumbeling and driving like that (or without it at all when i set a time of 3.35xx with a "crash") feels like driving blind compared to...
I don't like RT physics now and it seems that TT can't help.It have so many good things but that part in physics what i dont like is bigger and i can't play this way going around it. So unless Gram finds a way to hack the .exe and "fix" the physics on that way i'm over with RT becouse TT's messing with the .ini files is just not enought for me.

I guess i just get spoiled with GPL,RBR (i don't like 4WD's but i can't wait for some proper RWD in it ),LFS and now NR2003 whitch i tried and i must say that it is so f...ing good. :OMG: I could only wish that tires are modeled so good (i don't want that tires there ;) ) in GPL like in NR2003 becouse going in circles is not that fun.

Fun part of RT has gone for me so you should think (Midi and Rallyfan) to replace me ?

You will not remove it, this is all Imagine-kind-of-talking i think (I hope :o )

Seriously come-on, this is supposed to be fun, (just like your GPL races i think) so forget the thought that you have to drive as fast as you can-just try to enjoy it ;)

And if you still get frustrated, then take some time off, this works for me as well it works to the rest of the world :D

So what do you think, are you still in the races ?

Jim
18 February 05, 18:12
Imagine this game is fustrating, it fustrates me no end when I start the stage literally 100s of times and just can't finish it without getting stuck on something like a sticky tree or crashing (other races.) Sometimes I feel this game is far from being realistic, sometimes its just too 'spinny.' Then at other times it feels great, and the cars handle as you would expect in real life.

I agree though, this stage is bloody hard, and at times it feels like you're driving on ice. All I want to do it fix my headlights and textures, then I have have a proper run! :cry:

Pero_Grozni
18 February 05, 18:24
Jim-try reinstalling normal swiss stages from the RT CD and than apply the snowy swiss mod. It could be that you had a messed up base(some tarmac swiss installed or?) In the worst case-reinstall.
On the other thought-try different graphics settings ingame. Try to go for max details and than work your way down-hope you get it working.

Imagine-I have replyed to you comments with a new thread as my post got a bit long for the comp thread. You will find it here (http://forum.nogripracing.com/viewtopic.php?p=23569#23569)

Thanks for the help Pero, will give that a try. :wave:

Despite my problems and being unable to see in some places, I just set a time of 4:13.13 which I'm quite pleased with (I actually finished the stage without crashing!) Quite a tame run, but I wanted to get a time. Will keep practising, and once I've fixed my minor problems, expect a quicker time! :D

Imagine, I can understand your feelings about RT and specially racing. You may remember, I talked about retreating about half a year ago from races. The reason was a little different and my main frustration-factor was the unrealistic driving-style that came with the races, but also the incomplete physics at that time and that we mainly drove cars with partly unrealistic handling. And remember also, it was you who had some kind words and gave me back some motivation. I still hate to fight for 1/100 second and doing countless attempts driving "on the edge", smashing my car same countless times until one attempt is sucessfull. But I can dare with it now and stop driving when it begins to get boring.

Perhaps have some brake and don't take it to serios. No need to race if you don't have fun anymore. It's still a game and should be for amusement, not for ruining anyones nerves. I'm a bit sad about your plans to leave the team and RT-racing, but can understand your plans to quit. I only hope, you will stay away from the idea to delete RT completely from your HD and memory. You've always been one of the highlights here and and a fast and fair opponent. I really would like to see you here in future like in past, even you are more concentrating on GPL now. But don't forget good old RT completely. As said, perhaps a little break will bring you back the fun.

Greetings,

I watched Pero's replay and I think he can go 5 sec faster
He uses the gas pedal tapping technique, it may set up the car for drifting easier but it is probably slower out of the corners

I will have a crack at your time tommorow as well as updating the leaderboard(sorry guys-I have been quite busy).

I just lost the will for competitions :(

:OMG: losing your will for competition is like losing your will for life.

Steve McQueen said it best in the 1970 movie LeMans
"Life is Racing", Anything Else Before or After, Is Just Waiting"

I just got out on my bike for an hour and even though I have no speed now it felt good. Its too sunny a weekend to stay in again tomorrow to see all my split times green. If Pero takes his usual 5 to 10 seconds out of me I won't feel bad, I think I could go only about 2 seconds faster anyway

I am really impressed from you in this event, LethalOatmeal! I watched the scene since a long time and I've noticed, that you have improved your skills a lot since last year. But that big step was unexpected! :up: Well, I don't like this stage - yeah, really hate it - and don't have the will to drive it over and over again to get a much better time. But even I would, I don't think I could beat your's! In the past I never had much problems to leave you far behind. My respect for this - I think it's worth to mention this phenomenal progress and LethalOmeal deserves a title like "straight-shooter of the year" or something else! :trophy:

This car was not really for me. I did many runs and after that I tried with the Cortina and was instantly faster with it (by a quite big margin).
And I've been more busy with GT4 :D. Off topic picture (http://vrmx.gt42.net/GT4/gt4_25.jpg)

2 questions for PG :arrow:

1)why aren't you on the leaderboard?
2)Why is my name written with a small ''r'' there? :P :smash: ;)

2-Sorry a mistake(will be corected) :wave:

Makes sence, i was just suprised to see myself in the top3 and then i didn't see your name on the leaderboard, so i decided to ask...

Btw am i the only one who doesn't hate the combination of this stage and car :smash:
I love this swow-switzerland, it's like Monte driven on snow, and the car :arrow: it might not be the best for keyboard players like me but i like the challenge that comes with it :twisted: ;)

Improving the time was much harder than I thought. Midi-you sure did a great run :up: :trophy:
I even broke my pedals yesterday and had to improvise a brake pedal spring. I think that the complete wheel will give up very soon :(

Now we will have a week off. You can go and vote for the stageand car to use in our next race-this time I will count the votes properly :o :P :wave:

Not so often after my former uploaded laptime, perhaps 7 or 8 times. As said, I hate this stage and initially didn't want to do any further runs. But then I couldn't resist and drove a few times more - and was able to improve a lot. Perhaps some better replay lower than 3:30 would have been possible, but after that sucessfull ride crashed a several times again and started to get angry - and quit immediately!

Im not shure how often I drove this stage in total. The snowy version definitifely never before our race, but of course the default one a lot more - and the track is the same, only different textures and annother physics. We had annother competition here last year with the Porsche 911 (and got in rage about the damned tunnels as well ;) ).

I wanna apologize for not partcipating in this race, but I was really really struggling with this car and couldnt get time under 5 mins :cry: Im aware that my team will loose alot of points due to my absence in this race. I hope I will sparkle next time and bring the amount of lost points back :up: :wave:

This car and stage is good for me too for some reason. I think because I can drive it like I would realistically (minus the fear of crashing or scratching the bodywork) and I have driven lots on similar roads (but without the cliffs, only snow banks to hit). Some of the other RT cars I find very hard and the speeds are way beyond what I've experienced in real life. The speeds for the Toyota are very realistic to how I used to drive with unstudded winter tires.
Congrats Pero :trophy: . I watched your replay - it looks like you used a higher gear ratio and/or shifted to a higher gear more often.
I looked through the raw data for each car on teh RTBZF Manager and couldn't see how much power each car has (other than menu) or figure out at what rpm to shift. I see torque, but can't figure out at what rpm peak torque

LethalOatmeal
20 February 05, 22:44
did the British Emprie team need a sub?

Pero_Grozni
20 February 05, 23:07
To know where the peak tourqe is just check the engine.ini with the BZF manager.

Browse down and you will find something like this(this is directly from Toyota's engine.ini):

TorqueMax = 237.43;
TorqueCurveParams = 17;

Torque00 = {500, 0.31};
Torque01 = {1000, 0.55};
Torque02 = {1500, 0.68};
Torque03 = {2000, 0.76};
Torque04 = {2500, 0.82};
Torque05 = {3000, 0.88};
Torque06 = {3500, 0.925};
Torque07 = {4000, 0.96};
Torque08 = {4500, 0.98};
Torque09 = {5000, 0.999};
Torque10 = {5500, 1.00};
Torque11 = {6000, 0.97};
Torque12 = {6500, 0.92};
Torque13 = {7000, 0.86};
Torque14 = {7500, 0.81};
Torque15 = {8000, 0.700};
Torque16 = {8500, 0.000};
Torque17 = {9000, 0.000};
Torque18 = {9500, 0.000};
Torque19 = {10000, 0.000};

The numbers are: {RPM, Ammount of max tourqe or better said max tourqe multipliers}
So to check where your peak tourqe is, just look for 1.0 as this will give the engine the defined max tourqe. In Toyota's case this is at 5500 rpm :) \

BTW: I used shortest gearing, but did the most of the stage in fourth. The stage is too twisty to keep up long fast slides, so this was more effective for me.

I couldn't race yesterday.
I played football with some of my friends and suddenly´I couldn't move my neck anymore. I was enabled to drive. Really wanted to get a top position this time again, but it was again not possible.
Today my neck is much better :wave:
But I think a 3:35 with keyboard and driving only 15 Minutes is quite good, as you were driving hours and hours with your wheels.

Although "British Emprie" is quite imperialistic and I don't want to be thought of as a poor colonial breach cloth wearing heathen. I think Commonwealth is the current term.
Anyway, I still happily offer my services.

I don't think Nicky plays RT anymore, he seems to be obsessed with RBR! I've asked him so many times to come and race but he seems to ignore me! :( :mad:

Sorry I didn't get another drive, I've been in bed most the time, I hate illness. Its so annoying I haven't been properly well since the start of the year, just one illness after another! :o :cry:

Would be great to have LethalOatmeal to replace Nicky. Thanks for the offer. :up:

So if you have done the "formalities" of a driver-change in your team, please post a short note in the "team-gathering"-thread. Will update the teams then.

Yes, I'll try and get him to post here.

I don't think its about him disregarding RT, and moving to RBR, it seems he doesnt have time, and I know he is flat out with work all the time.
